Hi Guys,

I applied for a position at a bank in Singapore (IT related). I received 2 phone interviews, no face to face interview. Oddly, I got the job and confirmed it via e-mail. Is this common for job applicants in SG?

The HR said that they need to do background screening and EP application concurrently, and by the way, they are using a third party firm called First Advantage to conduct investigation. It was briefed to me that after I pass the screening process and EP application, I will then be given the offer letter.

I signed the consent form without asking much. Do you guys happen to have any idea what does First Advantage checks for, especially for job applicants in the banking sector?

The work place will be in Changi Business park, getting a room to rent in Tampines would be a good idea, you reckon?

If you disclosed it on your CV and/or whatever application forms to the new company as part of the job application process then why would it be confidential any more?

You got a point. Plus, I signed some consent form or something, probably they can access my tax/bank details to verify pay slip. I'm not sure, to what extend, the rights that these 3rd party has...

Hi guys,

I received my offer letter and waiting for EP submission/approval. If everything goes well, I'll start my 2016 in Singapore.

My future company is offering me tax assistant for both sides, Malaysia and first year in Singapore. I went to the company's accounting branch here in KL(PWC IAS) and I was briefed that if I were to leave Malaysia, I need to get my current company to submit CP21, and my last month's salary is suppose to be held by my company until my tax clearance is completed. In a nutshell, I need to announce to IRB that I'm leaving Malaysia and not getting any income in Malaysia, so according to tax regulation, I need submit a CP21 and perform a tax clearance.

According to the tax agent, there's a high possibility that I will be audited when doing a tax clearance. Do you guys happen to have experience for matters like this?

I got a feeling I will be in deep sh*t if I get audited.

Why? Did you simply anyhow file fraudulent tax returns every year to LHDN? If it was accurate and all your deductions are supported with proper receipts, etc then what are you afraid of?

The alternate: Don't bother with the CP21. Just go to Singapore and work, then next year April do your Malaysia Tax Filing online and claim back all the overpaid PCB. Note: If there is a significant drop in the tax assessment amount compared to previous years, then LHDN will also possibly audit you anyway.
*
I thought of that as well until the tax agent advised to not do this.

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Oct 29 2015, 10:56 AM)
If you kept all your documents (EA form, receipts, etc) and paid all your taxes nicely, why are you afraid of an audit ? You get "donation" is it ? wink.gif

For my case (some years back), after my MY company submit the CP21, I went over to LHDN to confirm with them and cleared everything, got a release letter, gave it to my MY company for them to release my pay, done in less a couple of week if my memory servers me. Then later next year tax assessment, I filled in online and LHDN payed me back the access tax I paid.

After that I didn't perform the online tax assessment the next year onward and no audit.
*
I kept all my documents alright and paid my taxes. But, I bought books. Lots of books.

Edit: Remember I mentioned that I bought a lot of books? I lied.

If you do fraud, you need to suck it up. Just make a correct declaration and pay up. MY and SG are close now, one day SG commandos will kick your SG door down and point 5 M16s on your head for evading tax. Lock to Changi prison, then send back to MY for life imprisonment.

The sweet sweet irony in your posts. You are going to work as a tax assistant, and you are lying in your tax returns? Furthermore, you did not even bother to look up the Income Tax Act to see what are the penalties for submitting a false return? What kind of people PwC are hiring nowadays?
*
Erm...not working for PWC. But PWC was appointed to be my tax agent to perform the close out.

I was thinking about that too actually, but I read somewhere certain division uses M16 or M4A1, but SAR21 is definitely a staple.

I must be the odd one then... don't like to drive in KL (Malaysian drivers park everywhere and most KL folks are bad drivers).

Then due to work I end up driving in Singapore, kinda like driving in Singapore as people are more civilized... and parking is convenient too. ERP parking everywhere, now even find it interesting to drive into challenging car parks like Liang Court.

Then 2 months back drove my SG car back to KL... damn, hate driving in KL.

As for me,

They found my profile thru Monster and give me a call. I am currently earning MYR 3700, but they just offered me SGD 2600. I am satisfied with that. I didnt really mind the gap because all my commitments were in MYR and I'm earning SGD. After all the calculation, I bet I can save alot more...

Now currently waiting for my S-Pass approval. Might stay around Bedok later on. My workplace is at Changi South Lane...

Translated it in Google translate, that's sad news indeed. Insurance is important. Hey, assuming that newbies like me is going to work in Sg, will it be a good idea to up my insurance coverage/premium in Malaysia?

Or, I'll get another personal insurance in Sg? What do you guys usually do?

Before that, does insurance company in Sg covers foreign workers? I do know that my new company is going to provide insurance. HR will brief me when I start my first day.

You need to fill up. They will ask you come in for what. Just show them the IPA. Fill in 30 days on your white card.

After you done medical check, you will need to register with MOM (thumbprint + photo). There you will need to surrender your White card. They will chop on your IPA. After that only you can enter/exit without white card.
*
Oh ya, what about if the Medical Required column states: Declaration? Meaning just signing the declaration form should be sufficient, right?
