Big 4 in SG will always welcome kulis from Malaysia. Not many locals are willing to trade their life for the sake of working the long dreaded graveyard hours in the Big 4. picture working till 5am and having to go into office at 9am thereafter.

jitshiong, this job will pay u $5k. So, do you think you will have good life?
*
I dont think how working in Malaysia with RM5k helps me too. I waste 2 hours on the road everyday, and then I come here do Accountant work also work as late. Plus, my sister is going down to study and I do plan to go back to audit, more learning curve. Tats why Big 4 SG.

If you compare RM and SGD alone, of cos earning SGD is better. What you save you get X 2.69 when you go back to Msia and spend.
Go ahead with audit if that's what you want. What I'm saying is that the Big 4 will welcome people like you. Lots of vacancies actually. Whether you can perform up to the firm's expectations, it's a different thing.
*
Thanks for your concern. I do know life in a Big 4, as I was from PwC KL. I also know their expectations and working hours. My concern is how to get there, because I have no referrals and my sister is rushing me -.-

You worked in PwC KL before and you need referrals? Your experience itself is a referral already.
Y is your sister rushing you? If she wants to live in Singapore, she should be independent enough.
*
Its actually my parents who wants me to go with my sis. First, she is the youngest. Additionally, I wont be alone, because they do wish me to venture elsewhere as well. As I said, referrals so I can get it right the first time smile.gif

Woww.. yea, I left PwC KL too for a couple of months, currently Statutory Accountant for IBM (ironically doing Singapore entity accounts) and I didnt like it. I am not learning anything other than learning how to use the new accounting systems, and we work late too.

never considered commercial accounting. too mundane for me.
well audit is a guarantee of for sure promotion n increment..safe rice bowl if you willing to sacrifice
*
Who are you kidding? My sisters are my everything, and they are meant to be spoilt smile.gif tats my opinion, you may disagree.
Yeah, commercial is very boring. If I manage to go back to audit, guess I wont come back to commercial. At least, audit is full of surprises biggrin.gif
How bout you? What are you doing for a living right now?

if you continue to spoil your sis, she will have a hard time to survive in sg. up to you to decide for her future.
haha.. i'm living off my savings now. still looking wat to venture into next.
*
Yeah, i understand what you mean. But she is just a student anyways, I spoil her in my ways. As in tolerate, not the kind of spoil you think it is. Plus, we will be depending on each other. My parents are totally hands off.

Thank goodness Fiona jie understands. She is 7 years younger than me. So when I was young, I was lonely, and when my sisters were born, they're my heaven! My parents leave them to me, i taught them everything I know. You'll be surprised how joyful it is seeing them growing into young lady, excel in their studies better than I do and talking back to you bout adulthood. She's a pure genius, excel in school since kindergarten, always top, and with all A+

if you continue to spoil her, she couldn't stand on her own and what if you are not around her smile.gif

Hmmmm... not really. She makes her own choice and she can be independent. I am supposed to be there for emergency. Imagine a student go overseas to study, and family is not around. What if there is like real case emergency and she needed help but family is 5 hours or more away? So given a choice, wont you wanna support too?

I really dont see how moving down to SG is spoiling her, it's not like it is a bad career move for you
If you were Singaporean and you move to Malaysia for your sister....then maybe it is haha

I'd say go for it, I wish I'm moving down with someone close but unfortunately not the case, it's a good thing to move with your sister

QUOTE(Fiona Chin @ Apr 3 2015, 11:30 PM)
You said she SPM? Come here for poly? Don't think uni here accept SPM even if full As.

Seems like most of the people here don't support the idea of babysitting your sister through degree. Most of them came here alone to start from scratch, so they are more independent type. Nothing wrong for them to think those who can't stand on their own are less capable. Someday you just have to let her walk alone though, you can watch beside but can't help her in every other thing. I am the youngest, so I am the most spoil, and the one that achieve the least, both academically and professionally. I blame it partially on my brother and sister tongue.gif .

SG is quite safe for a student to do her study, I done mine here. You can hardly have a chance to get mug, access to drug, and stick with wrong group of friends if you are in the public uni. Those who got in are not those rich and useless kids. She would have close friends in school that would help each other in daily life. You should go enjoy your life too. Anyway, anything urgent happen 999 and 994 would reach her faster than you would even you are in SG, they are very efficient. You can just fly here in few hours if something happen, plenty of flights from KL to SG every hour.

Good luck to your job application and hers too  thumbup.gif .

If you have worked in Pwc KL for some time, chances are you will find a fair bit of your ex-colleagues in Pwc that made the move down, perhaps you could try asking around. I have seen many mid-joiners who came in from Pwc KL, so I am fairly confident you shouldn't have a hard time finding them. Catching the right timing will be important too, bonus and promotion is around July-September depending on which firm, so usually the recruitment will increase to replace those who leaves after the bonus.

Just to add this in, like what beancountz mentioned, the hours here are horrible (though i heard it is getting better, not sure how true is that). I have seen my fair share of those mid-joiners who quit within a year after they made it here, the fastest one I remember was within 1 month after coming down from KL as a senior.
*
Thank you for your support and advice. I do have some of my friends in SG. But somehow when i asked them, they only replied, apply through website. Because that's how they do it. Maybe they're just reluctant to help or too busy to help. I dont blame them. I do think its gonna be a good career move too to be working in sg. Hopefully can join you guys there!

Like I said, if u have no cable then sign up LinkedIn and efinancialcareers and go from there. In my experience in financial services these two way more effective than any of the other sites.
