No choice bro, definitely most people would choose less pay for more free time if i read you correctly which means working in MY would be a better choice. I am in my mid thirties and looking for a better job opportunities which equals to better pay in SG plus the high conversion rate in SGD against RM. The reason I want to give it a try in SG is because we are unable to cope up with the cost of rising in MY.  sweat.gif

I'm married with 2 kids and I already starts to worried if I would be able to even send them to college in the future. Not mentioning that buying a house with a RM5k income is almost impossible when i am the only sole bread winner. We are not those spendthrift but we need to prepare for for the future aheads of us.

If I continue to work in MY, I forsee that I would still be running around with max income of 7 to 8k in another 5 to 8 years and that if taking into consideration that the economy is good and the bosses are making more money and they are willing to raise your pay. But that really depends on which company you land into, otherwise it's going to be tough to reach that income bracket.

I would eventually move my family to JB and get a property in JB if I forsee SG is going to be a better option. I felt so uneasy to leave my family, but the thought of the sacrifice made today would eventually be better for the whole family in the future which have made me to look into SG as another option.  smile.gif
I would rather sacrifice for a better pay and queue like the rest of the malaysians do and spend my time with my kids on the weekend if this option of working in SG is going to materialize.

Good luck, never too late to start. My parents come over in their 40s. They made it, so me and my siblings are the 2nd generations enjoying their hard work, just like what others Malaysians enjoying back home. The first step always the hardest step.

Better spend more time with the kids when they are young to shape their mindset. Teach them well in live so you no need spend on their college, free scholarships everywhere in SG. My parents also single income family, endured hardship during the younger times, end up growing up better than most peers I see.

QUOTE(mules @ Apr 14 2015, 12:35 PM)
Oo  wow nice to know there are parents here like me.  Congratz Fiona.  First recruit?  Just to share. My daughter experience her first 2 years of kindergarden in Singapore and i can assure you it is totally worth it.  She can speaks English pretty confident now and very good in expressing herself to the public.  Which i find quite different from other children in Malaysia.  I also notice different childcare comes with different quality.  I was on a one year waiting list for the childcare near my hdb which cost 1k compared to 650 from the other one.  I only want it cause it is just below my hdb but i always wonder why so expensive yet why is there a 100 people waiting list.  When my daughter did gets in in k1  i realized the level of education is totally another level and i like how they always talk to us in preparing us for her primary schooling.

I will be bringing my 2 months baby there next month.  80% of the infant care in my area are fully booked.  I might need to resort to nanny if i cannot get one.  It is not cheap for a foreigner like me there.  The monthly cost of infant care alone is 1800++ excluding milk etc.  Any tips for me?
*
Haha ya first recruit. I would mostly convert to work at home mum. Now talking with boss about maternity leave and arrangement after birth, maybe one year sabbatical leave hopefully. Don't want to put the baby under nanny care or nursery. At least not before they can speak and complain if the nanny torture them or not.

If too expensive you can either ask your parents or in laws come and take care of the baby, or convert to local for cheaper fee.

has anyone tried bringing a used monitor / tv from malaysia to singapore before? via flight. is it permitted? will they stop me and ask to pay tax? lol
*
Only need to pay gst if your item is above 400 sgd. Changi is more accomodating than other check points but if they catch you, they fine you on top of the gst you need to pay. Maybe they will let you go if its used. And since Malaysia has gst now, should not be double taxed I think. Consider your airline check in fee too, maybe don't worth all the hassle for the little money you save.

carry on board ??? a 23" TV is at least 60cm minimum with the shell. With packaging that's at least 62cm. I have never come across any aircraft which gave such a huge allowance for check in luggage.Maybe can just make the cut coz since TV size are measure diagonally.

look at AirAsia one for example:

That's hand carry dimension not check in luggage dimension.

If I'm an employer and need to call for an emergency meeting during the weekend, I think those staying in Sg will response faster compares to those staying in JB. Other all being equal, I will definitely promote the one who stay in Sg first.
*
Don't so fast intro kiasu spirit to them first. Later they stay in thr cubicle 24/7 stand by in case boss come back middle of night for urgent matter and only you are there to help. Wah next ceo is not you then who else. Can save rental too work sleep all in office.

But my pay is the bare minimum for E pass lol, 2500sgd...hopefully can save a certain amount each month  unsure.gif
btw, anyone here working near raffles place, or Robinson Road? wonder where you guys stay hmm.gif

Im still looking around, trying to make the journey about 30 minutes or less

will also try PMing or LYN realtors
*
I work there, stay 30 minutes drive away. That is one of the most expensive place to work. You sure you did not get scam with the salary? The office there all rich rich one.

One meal will cost you 8 to 10 bucks unless you walk far far away or pack your lunch from home. Cab will cost more because of ERP and city surcharge, if you can get one during the peak hours.

Female tenants are viewed to have less risk in general. Like you buy insurance, male also higher premium.

SG water is potable. But don't mean its clean from dirt. Try run your water through white cloth and see how much dirt it collect.

I guess some ppl here just have too much time to play around here rather than sharing useful info, but you could actually check a number of replies by very helpful forumers to my questions.

Basically rent will be about 6-700 if you are not too demanding, that kinda price will be able to give you a relatively spacious room with all kinds of features like water heater, wifi, washing machine, etc. Just look thru propertyguru.com and you will be able to see how it is.

Living cost will be a 1000 for a single person if you are the kind of person who has to eat expensive food and spends a lot on entertainment. I got this from reddit, you can use it as a rough guide...
[attachmentid=4428652]
*
Why food price increase with higher position? When single you eat one plate of rice, become senior manager you eat 3 plate?

Why internet and cable also increase? 1 house 1 fibre and cable, when promoted u need 3 fibre in a house? See youtube with 3 fibre add together faster? laugh.gif

Petrol, parking and ERP, also on low side, 400 not even enough to pay for car park in the city on working days.

Senior manyzer mah, surely got car allowance parking allowance etc etc like a certain HSBC RM I sort of know who drive BMW X5 de.
*
Ya those rich butt bankers. Allowance alone few thousands already more than people's pay. Should hang them out to dry in marina bay for hogging all the money. Not like us small people everyday worried about over budget.

QUOTE(supersound @ Apr 28 2015, 09:49 AM)
Should changing Euro in Malaysia then using the Euro and change SG/USD in Singapore.
I think this way will be more workable considering now rm only strong against Euro and weak to all currencies hmm.gif
*
If you come in yesterday with this we won't have Monday blues already. Wow good advise! Take note peeps.

I doubt he want it as retail is not really what he is looking for. Event and marketing is his strength and he hopes to find similar job in SG, or at least HR or admin instead of changing into retail field.
*
I have duo degree, one master, few certs here and there and I only work as admin... life tough in SG with all the degree mills around. Throw a stone on street the foregin talent you hit maybe have 3 phds and hundreds of relevant experiences.

Returning from HK for good?
East coast is a nice place to live.
Along katong, teluk kurau, marine parade.

Unless you stay up the mountain in HK island, everywhere in Singapore would be a nicer place to stay with all that space around.
