To me, if you are a married couple and both combined can only afford to rent common room ... then why even bother work in SG?

Nothing wrong with living under means. 1st step towards a bungalow.

Consciously choosing to live under means is different story. Like you, you can sort of afford Cayenne but instead decide to just drive X5, and can sort of stay sentosa cove but instead decide to be more comfortable and buy CBD condo. But if you married and come to SG to work and got no choice but to rent room ... might as well go back KL, easier to compete there and get decent salary to have your own place, cars, etc what.

Some not born so fortunately or get high ranking bank job like you ma. My parents still renting unit after 3 of us born tu. Shared the best ever tasting char siu rice till date with my 2 siblings that time. Now 1 person eat 1 big plate chap fan also not so tasty lo. Romantic ma share room with wife wub.gif . So big house but empty for what.

2 people average income should can rent a small condo, get a car no problem right, eat restaurant and annual trip, only thing is no saving.

QUOTE(danlainlain @ Jun 9 2015, 11:08 AM)
My work place is at raffles place, and planning to stay along EWL, any suggestion where is the most convenient, decent place to rent?

Budget $2k to $2.5k,

Preferably newer development, modern design small studio apartment with basic condo facilities and full/ partly furnished. I live alone with occasional gf visit.

I really need a washing machine and dryer.

Also, would additional $500 enough to cover utilities bill here? If say for example aircond all nite and weekend.

And what can I bring into Singapore?
TV? Pet? Cooking gas? lol
*
Budget 2.5k should be able to get a studio, maybe not at CBD, a bit further I guess. Machine and dryer is typically provided for a studio rental. Some owners are very particular about additional sleep over guest, better put it in the contract before signing. Engage our principal agent sgrealestate for better advise.

500 is more than enough to cover utilities for a studio. Its just a room, nothing much you can waste electric on.

Pets like dogs need license from AVA. Do some vaccines shot, microchip, and need to quarantine for observation. Engage pet agents to save the trouble. Some condo don't allow big dogs, again, check with your rental agent. We brought 3 huskies in by, arrangement by agent, bill paid by dad, should be reasonable if not he would choose to eat the dogs already. Aircon the 1st storey 24/7, utilities bill about 800 per month for 2 people + 3 dogs.

For larger amount of money, how do u guys usually bring it over to Malaysia?
CIMB transfer is convenient, but in terms of exchange rate it is slightly loosing out especially when dealing with higher sum..
*
How to bring back money also need to ask ah? Wrap few round newspaper, put it in your backpack and hug it to your body all the way until you put in under your Malaysia house pillow. Or you can hire an armoured van with few big guns cisco guards and drive you all the way home. So envy those rich people that have large amount of cash on hand in Singapore laugh.gif .

QUOTE(XiuKeong @ Jun 14 2015, 08:52 PM)
I have a dilemma.

Usually electricity bill is counted by per pax or per room basis? The place I'll be staying is 2 rooms having 1 air cond each. Me and another couple will occupy both of the rooms.
*
This depends. For you, you would want it to be divide by 3. For them, they would want it to be divide by room. For a better relationship on your future stay, agree on a ratio you 3 comfortable with. Aircon is the most power consuming item in the house and they are sharing 1, so many divide by 2.5, you 1, the couple 1.5.

no such deal la.. unless you work in finance, appropriate wage adjustment would be 60% of ringgit. ie, if you made rm10k, equivalent would be $6k Sing. That is to maintain your current spending/income power.
*
No underestimating our boss deodorant, for him 10k RM to 10k sgd is his allowance only. No 28k Sgd for 10k RM salary no need talk full stop. Got to see what class of flight he take to holiday then u know 6k sgd only enough to pay his frequent flyer monthly card fee.

*
Either you go to work super early 7am, smrt say you can buy good breakfast from the discount you get, 1st to reach office and go back at 11pm, or
get a car and complain about the traffic.
Enjoy your stay, your mrt crowd will only get worse btw.

QUOTE(truecolor @ Jun 29 2015, 09:14 PM)
hi all, wanna ask for a private condo, how many tenants are allowed in a unit?

I wanna terminate my contract but my stupid landlord dont allow, and try to scare me saying that will report me to MoM or whatever shit for me being a bad tenant.

My current unit has 8 ppl and has few rooms being partitioned out. Is this violating any law of singapore?

I told her that I can give her 1 month notice for early termination but she say she will still forfeit my deposit, any advice?
*
Your landlord done some homework. 8 is the magic number for max tenants in the house. But subject to the unit area. 10m square per person minimum I think. And can't do any new partition. Ura is the one controlling private residential rental. Call them to complain.

Mom won't bother about rental dispute she just scaring you. Reason for moving out if not strong your deposit maybe gone.

Why you accept the contract in the first place?)

I know. Many expats from India. Even in KL got many. Their salaries are lower than equivalent Malaysians but they don't complain because to them it is very high than what they are getting in India. It's like us M'sians going to Sgp. smile.gif The thing is, a lot of them are really very good.
*
Expat and lower salary don't go with each other.

But good insight nonetheless, curry prata is SG's next big wave. They are super bestest good, not only really very good. Malaysians workers are done in SG. Time to be displaced. Better don't come here they will cook you curry flavour alive.

No bro, they do check. I have first hand experience. My brother who's PR and owns HDB flat moved to Auckland earlier last year, and he bought a small apartment there. He received a notice from HDB to his address in Auckland to sell off his HDB flats within 6 months or face confiscation. How they found out, no idea.

Good to know they keep track and go after offenders not for show show.
