Assurance needs to stay back everyday if necessary. High labour turnover, your senior may left you in 2 months or even immediately, those stay will become manager. Assurance name maybe glamorous but in actual fact it is the worst one. Since it doesnt even add 1 cent to the profit of business, why people should value audit knowledge ?

Tax is value adding to business (reduce tax expense) so certain biz really pays well to good tax consultants. Workload is less heavy and staying back late is lesser as only the tax deadline reporting matters more. Those who likes travel and dynamic environment may find tax a bit boring (some,...).

You can try either one first, if unhappy then switch lo. But its easier to switch from audit background to anything else but thats about it.
