I've got a question to ask. What's it like working in a Big 4? Is it seriously hectic? I'm currently doing ACCA part 3 on a full time basis. I've got a degree in Accounting & Finance. And I've cleared part 2 of ACCA exams.

I 've given thoughts on working full time while studying part time for the remaining papers. But problem is, I'm not sure if I'm capable of juggling both work and studies at the same time. I've given thoughts on taking 1 paper / semester.

What's bugging me is that I've no working experience and I'll be 25 next yr. My concern is that by the time I complete the program, I will lose out on working experience as most of my friends have already started working at the age of 21 - 22.

I've spoken to lecturers bout this matter and their advice is to finish ACCA before I start working as some part time students eventually quit their jobs to study full time.

I've also heard from friends that they've been skipping classes as they were required to work. I thought Big 4 is more tolerant towards their employees pursuing Professional Courses?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

acca_newbie,

try spending some time reading through all the replies in the thread and you'll get your answer. While the company would give sponsorship and study leave, but you'd have to set your priority straight, it is either your career or studies. If you still have loads of outstanding matter, then you better clear it off before going on study leave.

Almost everyone in the Big4 are doing their professional course, so if the rest can do it, why not you. Btw am doing as well.

I understand your frustration as I have gone through the experience myself albeit at an early age but spending those last few months doing nothing while waiting for result + waiting period for interview results is agonizing. Maybe got a "kiasunism" in me hating to be labelled as unemployed graduates.

Majority of the staff in Big4 will be taking professional papers and I do noticed a  few join even before they completed their acca (with only degree of OBu) but since you have a full fledged degree why not join as I don't see any reason of why the firm should reject you. You can take unpaid leave to study for your papers too but the question is do you think your study days cost your 1 day salary ?

Sigh a lot of my colleague will be going off for exams, alone in the office with seniors in future........ sad.gif

I will definitely go through the threads after the exams. I happen to stumble on this forum from ACCA V5. Didn't know the existence of this forum until yesterday.

My priorities would definitely be studies as I really want to complete it as soon as possible. I feel like I've been studying forever. I've been studying since after SPM. From what I heard, once you start working, especially for those who are not bonded with the company, work is always the priority in the eyes of the superior. I'm worried that I've to skip classes or be late for classes. I only want to work to gain working experience. Not so much for the money.

Is 25 considered as a late starter in the workforce? I'm worried that age would be a factor. I'm also worried if the Big 4 would only hire straight passers in ACCA and also those young in age.

What papers are u currently doing, chess_gal?

Hi SP1R1T,

I'm also in a similar position as you. I did not managed to get a 2nd interview though. The manager was quite impressed with my performance during the interview but he told me I may have difficulties getting through the selection stage by the partner as I did not pass my English Cubiks test. I was only short of 4 questions!! I received an email 1 week later after the 1st interview notifying me I've been disqualified.

I'm feeling rather down now.. I'm hoping to be able to secure a job with Deloitte at least. No other firms have gotten back to me yet.. It's already been more than a month. I thought BDO would have at least responded to me since I did get a call from KPMG and Deloitte.

But at this rate, my chances are much slimmer as I did not clear my P1 and P2 this round. I'm afraid it might affect my chances since my result has been the same for a year..

Hi,

I was just wondering how long does Deloitte take to respond after Group Assessment (Second Round)? I've already went for the Written Assessment (First Round). They told me they will take bout 2 weeks to get back to me for an Interview. It's already coming to the 2nd week.

Previously they were quite fast. Less than a week, I was called for a Group Assessment.
