This is by far the most incisive article I have seen about violence and video games. Not necessarily the most complete and airtight argument, but hits a key point right between the eyes. This is an excerp:

QUOTE
How about this for a crazy theory:  when young people commit crimes, there is a good chance they will do so in a familiar environment, like a school.  And, being young, they just might be players of video games.  And being obviously violent people, they might be attracted to violent games.  Cause and effect?  What video game does Saddam Hussein enjoy?

Video games should never to be blamed for the social misconducts of teens and society as a whole.

This argument was used against the creators of Doom following the 1999 Columbine Massacre; one of the shooters (Klebbold) has a penchant for the Doom games and even made a level mod similar to the Columbine High School blue prints.

That argument against Doom and similar games was the last drop in the bucket along side with the other 'reasons' parent and family advocates were complaining about "Drugs, Marilyn Manson, South Park...etc"

The thing is this simple it was pretty much extreme ostracism + poor family environment = some pretty unhappy kids. Also all humans are predisposed to violence, its all within us. Its the choices that we make are more consequential than blaming other people/things when something goes wrong.

PS: What that....I heard something from Jack Thompson...nah just a flying mosquito in my ear. tongue.gif

Violence come first of course.
This arguement just have no stand.

Using the same logic of the arguement we can say alot of things.
Example:
That murderer is a man who like to watch football on TV, is not Gay and eat at a restaurant.
So does that mean every man who like to watch football on TV, is no Gay and eat at a restaurant is a murderer?

Statistic shows that more people died in car crash then gunshot, so we should ban cars and allow everyone to carry gun instead.

People usually look for a easy scapegoat and unfortunately video games is one. With games like GTA and other overly excessive violent video games, it made video games an easy target. However, to say that violence spurn out of video games seems like a blatant accusation.

I play quite a few games which are high on violence and it doesn't really affect me much. We just need to know how to perceive what is right and wrong and what is real and whats not.
