Tips to Survive Major Steam Sales

Rule #1:
From now until the LAST DAY of the sale, if a game is on sale as a daily deal or flash deal, you can buy it. If it is only "on sale" through the entire sale, pass. Do not buy. Save your money (you may need it).

Rule #2:
Check each day for the daily deals, and monitor flash deals. As games come up that you want, you can get them. Just continue to exercise self control for games that are not a daily/flash deal.

Rule #3:
You can purchase the large packs, such as the THQ pack or Square-Enix/Eidos pack at any time if you wish. It is extremely unlikely that those bundles will be discounted any further, even though individual games in those packs may become daily deals. If you want a bundle, go for it. Lots of games, excellent price.

Rule #4:
On the LAST DAY of the sale, Steam traditionally makes its daily deals an encore of the most popular daily deals from the previous days. Go nuts. Buy everything you wanted. Other games are almost never on the daily deals during the last day, at this point, it is safe to buy anything else you've been waiting on.

That should be a big red flag as it seemed like a rushed product. If the game runs well at 60fps with up to 4k, i think thats ok with that but they did not assure it. It might be another poor port.

Not gonna get it.. Many bad reviews esp for co op and game's engine:
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-incr...-van-helsing-ii

Torchlight 2 and PoE have higher ratings.
*
All based on some metacritic score that is mostly garbage?

Van Helsing isnt a bad game as it has some unique mechanics. The story and the characters are quite decent with some stunning environments. Pretty much a play once and throw away game.

i might be too late to ask this but why?

pulled the trigger on it.

It can be quite repetitive after a while despite it is a decent ARPG.

It looks like card prices will be lower for the next few days.

I'll probably hold the gems for now first.

Its a good time to sell now, IMO. Or at least list it at higher price if you have the time now.

just wait till sales to buy Steam games la.. no need play all these gem bidding stuff..

it's marketing strategy yo.. part of the plan to make consumers spend.

their aim is US ppl's wallet.. or those rich ppl wallet... make them throw money at those gems.
*
The reason some of us do all these gem bidding yesterday because it can easily net you are few free games. And its doesnt need much effort.

The amount I got yesterday can get me 1-2 free games on sale next week.

hey pipul
I want to format my PC i want to ask about backing up steam games. My library installed on other drive (F:\ to be exact)

Do I need to backup my games using that backup feature or I can just format and re-add the same library folder later?

In Origin client we can just format and add same dir for library and it will automagically detect, do hashcheck and reinstall any missing dependencies. How about steam?
*
Steam is the same as Origin. You just need to backup everything in the Steamapps folder then copy it to an external hard disk. You also need to backup the .acf files in the Steamapps folder. Do not delete them as you might need to redownload the games

Once you reinstall the PC, you need to point your newly installed Steam client to your new Steamapps folder. Then, if im not wrong, you need to click Install for each game in order for Steam to locate the files back. Some games might be automatically being detected by Steam.

EDIT: May I know where did you install your library folder? Is it in a different partition from your OS that will be formatted?

The backup feature is teribble, avoid it. Just copy and paste your Steamapps Folder out to an external, then copy and paste back into your new installation of Steam.

Ah. that sounds reassuring. thanks. biggrin.gif  Im not going to be happy moving around 350GB of games sweat.gif .

Steam installed in C:\
Library is in F:\

I rarely use steam, just recently gone on download and gaming fury after completing my thesis. laugh.gif

You can literally leave the files, ie: your Steamapps in F:\, then format your C:\ only and relink to Steam library after you reinstall windows.

It happened to me once where my windows partition is corrupted and I have to reinstall Windows. Then, I just reinstall Steam to relink Steam client to my game libraries in my other partition.

If you ever gonna transfer your game files from one PC to another PC, like your new PC or laptop, use a LAN cable. It is much much much faster than using external HDD.

1.GRID autosports or GRID 2?
* OEM Ala-Cheapo Vztec Game pad Controller can use?

*
If you have to choose one, Grid Autosport all the way. Better driving physics, better AI, much more content as the game launch with 20 unique locations and 70+ cars on launch and also visually looked better than Grid 2. The Season Pass is also much more worth it than Grid 2 as it adds about 2 dozens of new cars, a handful of new game modes including drag and point to point racing and 6 tracks that adds more to the game.

This game is playable with a keyboard as the keyboard controls have tweaked. Get a 360 controller as it is a pretty useful device to own.

I think if u take both less then RM20.. which is around 3 to 4 Nasi Ayam meal price.. hehe
*
Not worth it. Skyrim has to be bought with all DLCs cause mods needs all DLCs. And if you buy base game now, its gonna be expensive to buy the DLCs later on.

Saints Row 4, better get the complete edition. There are some fun DLCs in there. Its just a few RM more.

GTA IV or Saint Row IV?
I only got RM10 on Steam Wallet so, which one is the best?
*
Saints Row 4. Better port, runs better, no triple layer drm and its a lot more fun than GTA.

GTA 4 on the steam using GFWL?
not using R* account like max payne?
Is it still worth getting it.
*
It has both Rockstar Social Club and GFWL. GFWL can be disabled by a dll hack.

I don't think its worth getting cause the port is awful.

No online coop for PC version.

The port is generally pretty terrible. You need controller to play this game.

Question on Age of Wonders 3; is Age of Wonders III - Golden Realms Expansion necessary? I don't think the Deluxe edition includes this so just wondering if the expansion is a must have or skip-able? Summoning Cheesenium and others who play this biggrin.gif
*
Yes, the Golden Realms expansion is necessary as it adds an interesting race to play with, the Halflings and also Naga neutral faction, along with some new mechanics.

I do recommend the game but take it more like a SRPG with some 4X elements as the empire building is very weak but the combat and AI is exceptional.

Blame that on the fanbase freaking out over an XCOM game not being turn-based strategy. They think 2K wants to reboot it into fps or something despite the fact that there's XCOM Enemy Unknown in development.
*
That is exactly why you shouldnt name a game with the same name as the original game who was a completely different genre. People are used to XCOM as a TBS all these while, despite there are a lot of crappy spinoffs.

At the same time, the original version of the shooter barely resembles what XCOM was.
