I have set up my alienware, streamyx and sony vegas pro finally after 7 months of working for the first job year of my life.

Since all the requirements necessary for me to engage in monthly review of hardcore games are finally geared up, it is time to begin our game exploration with the first not so famous title

THE FOREST ===> http://survivetheforest.com/

News:
This game is a still in development game so it is fresh of the box each time they update (Next is apparently tommorow). The recent releases to this game updates now incorporate multiplayer but haven't got the chance to test it yet. I HOPE I GET TO TEST IT WITH MALAYSIAN USERS! WUHOO!

(Once I learn to port forward and host a game I will post the server ip address for all malaysians to join. For now, you can Virtual LAN party with tunngle and hamachi for its multiplayer content as per usual)

Introduction:
You crash during your flight transit with a companion child (to which the game does not explain your relationship with other than he clings to you while he sleeps in the plane). Upon waking, you find a half naked tribal outfitted man carrying the child away from you as you collapse.

After waking the second time, the game begins. Now you have to survive a forest of which you know little of (and with each update, the forest becomes less and less known) with the tools and items you find around the plane and within the forest. You must hunt for food, build a fire, rest in a self-made shelter, stock up on resource, etc before night comes. As day turns into night, the Forest turns from a spring laden bustling forest to a creepy hollow night where bands of unknown creatures lurk. Upon your survival journey you will come across strange and disturbing things from background weird noises and clicks to severed and hanging bodies of your ex-flightmates to man-eating creatures that look Human but have no genitals and their eyes glow yellow...

Make no mistake, you will never know what you come across as some of them run away from you, some are passive and not affected by you while others react to you according to your actions. Kill one and the rest may run away, some may begin encircling you in the most horrifying way possible with quick sneaky jerks, others may call backup, and some will dash towards you, leaping with a groan grabbing any chunk of meat off of you if possible. The main inhabitants of the forest are these humanoid creatures called cannibals and you may catch some eating another human 'if you're lucky'. No one has a clue as to the backdrop of the story of these cannibals. All we know is they group in tribes, place bloody effigies across the forest "with severed body parts" of what they kill or eat (some will be on fire), some wear these things on them which makes them scarier...

To survive, you must make use of a survival handbook that lets you place blueprints of structures. tools and traps on the ground before you proceed to build them with the items necessary. You must gather food, resource and weapons to arm yourself against this flesh eating tribals and survive for as long as you can. Although ultimately, the longer you survive, the harder the game becomes with more cannibals roaming the lands, and harder creatures popping up. The cannibals also look for signs of fire and come closer to one near their travelling vicinity.
Well at least you can call your friends for help now...

The best thing about this game:

I have often caught myself just staring on the screen rather than playing this game. The graphics, ambient occlusion, freakishly realistic lighting and texture are none that I have seen before. The realism of the graphics detail makes this game all the more scary because it feels more real. Trees break in real small pieces before they tumble and fall, the moonlight shooting through the trees actually pass thru miniscule holes between leaves before flaring out in each hole (much like the effect light has in real life) and touching the round with very sharp shadow. The lines of the light can be seen easily and intricately as it moves along with the moon as time passes. The water even reflects light from the fire near you which is reflecting from your axe at night. The light dances on the stone sharply and precisely as fire burns too. Its exceptional graphics is seriously this game's highpoint.

It's free roam survival with an abundant crafting list of items, tools, structures, food, etc. Basically all you would need to survive in a place without civilization. The game merges the survival aspects with today's indie build and craft games. This might later lead to Co-Op village mode much like minecraft with seriously better graphics and way more intense gameplay.

For such a high powered game, it comes in a neat less than 1gb space. You can dl it in torrents or buy the game to support the developers. It will pretty soon be incorporated to Steam.

Summary:

The Forest, an upcoming High-End Multiplayer Survival Horror Game is a must try for all survival, horror and FPS Build and craft game fans. Its pure genius of merging a lot of the functional game genre and functions together in one game makes this fresh unique game one of a kind!
