Hi, I'm having problems connecting to Xbox Live. I use an 8 port ethernet whatchamacallit splitter and apparently I now have to set up my DNS manually.

Whenever I test my connection on the Xbox it says I've failed the DNS test. Can someone out there help me with this please?

Cheers.

I'm quite computer illiterate, sorry. How do I do that? I mean check my DNS.

PS. I have the damn thing set to Automatic detect.

QUOTE(necromanser @ Sep 18 2006, 03:37 PM)
bro. your internet.. if you are using PC and WinXP just open your CMD

and type "ipconfig /all" it will show you many ips.

on the other hand if you are on linux or mac or any unix based PC

type "netstat -r"

It will tell you which one is the DNS

Once u get that DNS, use that DNS on your Xbox 360. It should be okay.

Oh man this got my hopes up. Didn't work. Thanks a lot though! Really thought this would work. Strangely it didn't.

ok..how do u connect to the internet ? through a router or a PC ?

I connect through a PC. I have to manually connect it. It isn't automatic. I hear that could potentially present a problem as well.

As it stands it really does look like I'm going to have to splash out on a router. That's my last resort as I've just spent a lot to get the Xbox etc etc.

There's got to be a way to fix this! Driving me nuts.

stringfellow: I reckon what you said is the only way for me to connect to Live right now but if my PC isn't hooked up to the net, the other PCs at home are disconnected as well! Heh it's very annoying.

I haven't tried doing what necromanser asked me to try but I've actually manage to connect to the internet via the Xbox BUT I can no longer use the internet on the PC. Everytime I try to use the internet it says something about "my username yadda yadda domain yadda yadda". I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Not sure if this is a step forward or backward.
