That is a 52cm TT, so a small/medium. Should be the same size as your bike? The 21 year old tube exploded the other day, destroying the tyre as well !! shocking.gif

This is very nice! I brought back a full sized bike from Aus recently, AirAsia charged me A$45. Worth it if it is a bike you can't get here.

Bro how did u box d bike?
Kastam fler got say anything?

No, just walked straight out. :-). Used a bike box but I modified to make it as small as possible by taken off both wheels.

Then again, mine wasn't a new bike, so not worried about Kastam.

full size bike?

where did u put the wheels?
*
Yes, full sized bike. I just strapped the wheels on both sides of the frame. If you remove the front forks, you can make the box even smaller!

The only problem I encountered once I got here was getting a taxi that will take the box!

Most of my bikes use these bb. That's a nice find. Do they have anymore ? What length spindle do they have and how much?

Why still use tapered square? If I were given the chance to change the BB, I'll change to a different one that is more superior.

Nothing wrong with square tapered bb. Beauty is you can get better looking crank sets to match, unlike the ugly modern Shimano ones....

Reason on why touring bikes uses square taper is simple. Square taper is available anywhere , even in small kampong bikeshop or any bike shop for that matter. Touring means, you travel everywhere with your bike, like those 'mat sallehs' you see riding with big panniers on the road. If they were to use hollow tech or octal link etc, the parts are hard to source in small towns. Also those common cone bearings bottom bracket uses square tapered spindles , so although quality is not good, at least it will help you to replace temporarily. They also just started to use disc brakes on touring bikes which many tourers don't want to. They still want to stick to V-brakes as they are also easy to source. And if you use hydraulic disc brake systems, stick with Shimano, Tektro or another brand (can't recall which brand) which uses mineral oil while others still uses dot oil. This is because in emergency, you can fill the reservoir with cooking oil to operate the brake.

And for most people, including myself, will not be able to tell the difference if blindfolded....
If weight is the issue, then don't use these.

This gentleman quoted without wind on flat terrain 50km/h is possible with his Tern Verge X20.
I'd like to see that! I personally think not, unless it is downhill.... maybe..... Anyone want to try? rclxms.gif

Aiyah, all these speed and cadence measurements are a waste of time.

If you are overtaken by someone, it means you are slow, so cycle faster and re-overtake that person.....

If your cadence is slowing despite shifting down, it means time to eat, then go home for a nap....

For the bar I think I can upgrade it later on right? Still not sure what kind of bar to use yet.. I have looked up at tern's verge and eclipse series.. Can they both be use as touring too ?

I will check out the pacific IF reach and dash and see smile.gif

Hi there, I will chime in here by saying that foldies exist for a purpose, or you ride for the fun of it. Main reason is the ability to transport it easily. If transportation is not an issue, than you will be riding it for fun as it is quite darty with the smaller wheels. Speed is usually not a strong feature with foldies. If you are going to get one thinking you can go consistently fast as your roadie you best think again. As for touring, it will be a compromise again on a foldie as the amount you can carry would be less than on a touring bike.
You can see where I'm heading with this........foldies are for fun. That being the case you would want one that folds well, after all it is a folding bike. If it fails here you might as well not have one. Next, quality. You don't want one that will start rusting as soon as you take it home. You'll end up throwing it away, which will be a shame. Finally, fun to ride. You know when you have a good one, steers well, brakes well and gear changes well.
You will get lots of attention the bigger or taller you are. Why, because you will look like you are riding your kid's bike!
I have a few different bikes, both full sized and folding. Why? Because I like to experience the different feel of each bike. I have three foldies now, one aluminium and the other two are chromoly. One mini velo. Prefer drop bar as I have more hand positions. Unfortunately non of the foldies have this but that's OK as I'm only riding for fun!
Please let us know what you think once you've ridden different folding bikes and we can compare notes!

What model of Dahon speed is this? Is it the P8 or D8?

These would be P8s. AFAIK, there's only a D7 (7speed), which is what I had before. Same frame but cheaper components and wheels, still capable though.

Thanks for posting! Another new bike. Looks like this is chasing after the Bike Friday Tikit. Not as fast folding as the Tikit, but folds into a neater package. I wonder if it will be too flexy as there's not a lot of "frame" there... hmm.gif im sure the weight limit wouldnt be high as all the weight will be on that seat post. Still, good job for 20" wheels.

Yes, well done. You've done a good job on the stickers.

This bike uses 16" wheels? Looks like it in the original state?

after few time rides (that include climbing round island and flat road) with my 16"
i think my setup for 52/42 crank are bit difficult. climbing are easy with 42t but on flat road i feel a bit weird when cycle up to 35km/j (like cartoon woo) with the 52t crank. so i decided to get my old fsa 55t sharptooth from stock verge p9 and add on the 42 chainring

user posted image

since the crank already chrome color,i decided to add on tiagra 10speed rd to it and make it shine!

user posted image

well,my 16" still running with 8speed casette.no need for 10speed lah icon_rolleyes.gif

I agree that 8 speed is fine for a foldie. Wow, that project didn't take long, well done!

Do you actually need a closer ratio gear set ( as what 11 speed is, because both 10 speed and 11 speed has the same range min to max cogs) on a folding bike.  hmm.gif  Or maybe because the newer range of 105s are 11 speed. My suggestion is to just hunt for the older 10 speed 105s. Or get the Tiagras. In Shimano usual cases, when they upgrade or improve on Dura Ace, the older Dura Ace technology will become Ultegra and the Ultegra then will become 105s. This means the present 105s are actually the older Ultegras. Which also means the 2015 Tiagras are actually the older 105s.

The wheelset is not the point actually. The hubs are! For 11 speed, you need an 11 speed compatible hub. Easiest way I see is to get 11 speed compatible hub but sadly, folding bike spoke numbers are different from road bikes which are usually 32. So maybe you can hunt for 20/28 hole hubs which are 11 speed compatible. ( Try Taobao ) If you can find a pair, then you can just change the rear hubs or together with the front as well, your wish. But bear in mind, Tern/Dahon front hubs are only 73mm wide as opposed to the usual 100mm for others. The increase in 2.8mm width for the hubs can actually be absorbed by the frame with no problems.

All this means, you will change to drop bars or bull horn bars, right? I haven't seen an 11 speed straight bar shifters locally yet. The SHIMANO SL-RS700 is available for 11 speed and the price is going to be shocking too!  biggrin.gif I think you can order 11 speed wheelsets from Taobao, you need to troll through their site and if you do order make sure you get the spacers too, in case you need to go back to 10 speed.

Or why don't you visit Kimbell Jaya and speak to Jimmy. He has quite a number of 451 and 406 wheelsets. Maybe, he can modify them with 11 speed compatible free hubs. I can't guarantee but it's worth a try.

My conclusion , I will stick to 10 speed as the improvement in performance between 11 speed and 10 speed is negligible in the case of folding bikes.  icon_rolleyes.gif

rclxms.gif listen to sifu.

If you converted to 11 speed, you'll be wondering where your money's gone. A lot of things are actually wasted on a foldy. Sure your gearshifts may be a tad smoother, but seriously..... Blindfolded you won't be able to tell the difference in feel from Tiagra to Ultegra.
