QUOTE(salem74 @ Sep 22 2015, 07:34 PM) Darn it, which bike would I need to sell to fund this? 24 inch wheels, limited tyre choices though.....competing with the likes of Pacific Reach, which I like too! Too many nice bikes not enough time to ride. |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 22 2015, 11:33 PM) Hahaha, that's nearly RM6000 shipped for the 10 speed. What's tempting is the fold and titanium. But besides lighter would it ride or function any better? Folded size is taller but the width is very good. Definitely one for collection. |

QUOTE(etigge @ Sep 23 2015, 12:28 PM) Titanium usually last a lifetime, in fact it can outlast us. To be fair, unless your commute involves taking a bus or train, not many people will choose to ride a small wheeled bike. Non of my small wheeled bikes, folding or not have been used for commuting purposes. The Brompton would be my pick if my journey involves taking a bus or train. If more gears are required, I'd take the Tikit. Otherwise a standard 700c bike will always be picked. You can't compare a 16 inch (Yes, Bromptons are classified as 16inch, 349 to be exact) with a 24 inch. My guess is, this 24 inch is even lighter than the Brompton. However the Helix with its bigger wheels may be the best of both worlds. |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 23 2015, 06:09 PM) No you can't.. I actually tried to key in to see how much would be the freight cost and end up only allowed to pledge 11 speed or two 10 speed bike. Two 10 speed is cheaper, though Thats odd, im able to do so. I'm not in Msia so unless there are countries they wont send to?Shipping is CAD198 This post has been edited by desastar: Sep 23 2015, 07:41 PM |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 23 2015, 11:02 PM) I tried again just now and I'm able to get in. Funny that the other day I'm unable to get in. Anyway, do we pay first and wait for the bike or we just book until they ready to ship the bike, then only we start paying. Ive spent a bit of time reading the feedback and it seems that once you have pledged, the system will debit your credit card with a "fee" to confirm and then on the 1st Oct, will debit the rest. They should have made the payment side of things clearer. Seems that they can still change specs before they start production. At the moment, looks like they have decided on a 42t chainring and a 165 cranks, not sure how well that will work. I thought perhaps getting a single speed then upgrade yourself. Problem with that is the rear hub will need to be replaced.Do I really need this bike? Hmmmm |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 24 2015, 06:48 AM) I also spend quite a bit of time on the comment section and it seems the fee charge are not charge. They just want to know if your card is working. No charges whatsoever will be bill in your card. Well, sounds like you are more likely to be the one writing a review on the Helix. My predicament is my current fleet of bikes, 3 700c wheeled bikes and 4 small wheeled bikes, in all variation of gear options. I've run out of parking spaces. As they are all different, I wouldn't really like to dispose of any one in particular However, I'm not sure when they will start charging the whole price. Is it on 1st October when the project take off or when they start delivering the bike. It's tempting to get this bike. I've actually pledge to buy a 10 speedster yesterday after reading the whole project. 😄😄😄 |

QUOTE(PaulKong @ Sep 24 2015, 08:58 AM) What about the tax? One the terms and conditions, it's not inclusive of tax in Malaysia. Normally how much will they tax? Kind of worried about that. You'll have to check with Customs to see what rate of duty is applicable to bicycles, and then you'll have GST on top of that. That is at least how it works in Aust. Our A$ is sliding as fast as the RM and my fear is it will be worse next year. So if payment is due then, goodness knows how much it will end up costing! If the project had launched 12 months earlier, the A$ would have been on par with the USD ! |

QUOTE(etigge @ Sep 24 2015, 10:04 AM) Any bike with smaller than 26 inch wheels cannot be considered as sports equipment ( non taxable ) , so it is taxable. But many has avoided, how I don't know. Some send it to Singapore and ride in but the tax is not much, 10 to 15 percent, I think. Interesting, so we are all riding "toys" LOLNo wonder the lycra mob refuses to take us seriously! kkk |

QUOTE(etigge @ Sep 24 2015, 01:14 PM) They did mention in their site, they will consider selling the frame only after the Kickstarter project ends and the Helix goes into production. I was studying the geometry and the trail length seems very narrow. The fork is straight and head tube angle makes the trail length ( in their sizing and geometry page, labelled 'K' ) very narrow. I think the bike will be more twitchy compared to other bikes. The longer the trail length, the more stable the bike is, that's why many forks are curved out. Either that or the head tube angle is more. Anyway, they already have prototype ready and the road doing testing. Maybe, it's OK but still one needs to ride one to actually experience it. There's a compromise between compactness after folding to geometry in this case. Yes, I think buying just the frame would be the best option, since it is likely that the rest of the parts may not be to our liking. The bike's wheelbase appears to be long, but you are right in saying that the design is constrained by the design of the fold. However we all know that folding bikes are a compromise...... |

QUOTE(LostAndFound @ Sep 24 2015, 06:24 PM) Normally kickstarter will charge when 1st October (end date of the kickstarter I guess?). It's a platform for supporting development/manufacturing, so you pay super up front. Some projects just fail to deliver, may or may not get refund also. Thanks for your input. Didn't think of what will happen to our payment if the company defaults I do buy kickstarters, but its not as 'reliable' as actually purchasing from a company, normally. |

Guys,
Want your opinion. I'm thinking of bringing a bike back with me on my next trip. This is to ride around while I'm in KL and possibly will sell off one day. My question would be, which one would be better? Dahon Vitesse or Giant Halfway...... Pls let me know which is more appealing when time to sell. Any comments appreciated. Thanks! |

QUOTE(etigge @ Oct 2 2015, 09:26 PM) The possibility of selling it off one day............ most definitely goes to a Dahon. Giant folding bikes doesn't command a following as popular as Dahons. Most definitely will be easier to sell off later. Giants are not really folding bikes specialist anyway. They are more into roadbikes and mountain bikes unlike Dahons which specializes in folding bikes only. Why not look into MIT as well for KL commuting. It folds smaller and easier to carry into LRTs. In fact it is even lighter than a B. Just a thought. Thanks Sifu,I think you are right about Dahons. However the Giant will be a cheaper bike and for beginners, it would be a much better bike than the chinese made ones. Looks very different with a one-sided front fork and rear triangle. Probably around RM600, would people prefer a new bike i wonder? Won't be commuting and definitely not buying more bikes |

QUOTE(crayongal @ Oct 16 2015, 12:15 PM) Hi all, need some advises. If you find it OK on the XDS foldie, you will find the Dahon Speed P8 more than adequate. I agree with the earlier posts that you simply replace the cranks and add fd. Get a touring rack which sits higher up and that's it. I had the Speed D7 once and even that was aa nice riding bike.I've been on this XDS foldie for my short distance touring purposes. (KL-Penang, Kota Bahru-Dungun) Not bad for a reasonable price foldie to have done such a great work for me to ride that far. (and the bike was borrowed from my friend) But, now i am in the midst of planning my touring adventures, first is to tour around Iceland in 2016, Summer time. I am sourcing for a suitable and reliable touring foldie and i aiming on Tern p24h or Tern Eclipse S18 (but i can't find it here in M'sia for selling this model). This bike has got to be able for me to ride in diff countries and considering myself at 155cm tall, the mobility of the bike is also another big consideration. Any suggestion from sifu-sifu here? Much appreciated ya! Here's the XDS i used for my touring trip... [attachmentid=5133551] [attachmentid=5133560] |
