Promotion until when? Seems like a good deal to replace my 32GB kingston card.
One device they didn't tested - Sony Z3. Very one sided.

I strongly disagree with this test report. It doesn't even state under what conditions was the phones tested
My personal experience with 80% on internet stuffs ( browsing, email, RSS, whatsapp, tweeter), ebooks n some YouTube videos

Note 4 : SOT 6-7 hours
Mate 7 : SOT 9-10 hours
Ip6+ : usage 11-12 hours
*
Out of curiosity, are they using the same network? DRX settings make a big difference. I consider myself as a heavy users clocking 15GB this month and my Note Edge will last throughout the day until I get home and generally it still has 15-20% left. That would be around 10hrs.

QUOTE(psyduck89 @ Nov 27 2014, 09:01 PM)
this note 4 is not 805 right??

so 805 battery better or exynos better?
*
It's Snapdragon 805

QUOTE(alcali @ Nov 28 2014, 05:38 PM)
Question:
is there any app that can simulate the bandwidth throttle?

Example: i'm using Digi and if i exceed my quota (3gb), it will throttle the speed to 128kb.

Reason i'm asking this is because i'm planning to MNP to Celcom Biz. And Celcom Biz will throttle speed to 64kb if exceed the quota (3gb). Just want to test, how slow is 64kb, will Whatapps or Line or WeChat apps usable for text messages ??? (don't care about voice message or picture/video)
*
It's too hard to throttle at application layer. If it's were to happen, I would think that it'll need root.

64kb is good for IM without pictures

Is it normal if the phone call drop when 3g changes between 4g or 2g?

There's a higher probability that drop call will happen during handover

Vast difference. It transfer files faster in seconds.

QUOTE(kucuboy @ Nov 29 2014, 03:18 PM)
Oh, very big difference then. Earlier card almost double speed
*
Yes, it's faster but you'll need USB3.0 to utilize the additional speed. I bought it to future proof the card.

Finally got my original Note Edge flip case from Korea after 3 weeks. I'm disappointed with it though, it doesn't look premium and the back is quite thick. Paid US$40 for it.

Hey guys. Is the Australian version and Malaysian version having the same model? Does LTE and 3G of Australian version works here in Malaysia? Thanks!
*
Aussie version is SM-N910G whereas Malaysia version is SM-N910C. N910G supports most N910C bands and more (LTE 800 is not useful in Malaysia, it's used in UK). It'll be helpful when you roam to other countries. Also, Aussie version is a Category 6 phone which supports up to 300Mbps vs 150Mbps of Malaysia's version (Category 4).

Aussie consumer law mandate that all phone warranty is 2 years.

N910G:
LTE 700 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600 TD-LTE 2300 / 2600

N910C:
LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

speaking of aussie version SM-N910G,
if we buy from 3rd party, like directd..
any issue can we send them to claim warranty for us?
like screen tone yellowish
*
Slight screen tone may not be accepted as I don't think that it's considered as defect; more like manufacturing variance. Unless the tone is really bad.

Check the warranty process, some will assist, some will refer you to Samsung Aussie

hi,
what network you all use ?
the network signal bar from maxis is very low mostly is 1-3 bar.
im using LTE/WCDMA/GSM network mode, sometimes talk on the phone, it always switch between networks, the talking conversation is buzzing then recover back. It is really annoying, anyone experience that ?
*
I work in Telco industry and I'll share something that Note 4 and Note Edge owner doesn't like to hear, the antenna performance of these 2 units are poor. They don't meet my company's standard by 2-4dB depending on frequency and primary/secondary antenna.

In other words, Samsung S5, iPhone 6 and many other phones has better antenna.

A simple way to test is to use the same network for S5 and Note 4, put them side by side. Type in *#0011# and compare RSRP value. Note 4 and Note Edge will always show lower value (higher negative value).

I put my note 4 sim card to my old note 3. Both show almost same value -85. S5 got better signal reception than note 3/4?? So far i don't have any drop call for note 3/4.
*
Haven't checked Note 3 spec. What puzzles most of us is that there are so much space within these massive device to make good antennas but the performance is still poor.

May be they realise that no one can really check antenna performance hence it won't impede their sales. Apple products' antenna was bad, with iP6/6+, it improved by leaps and bounds.

QUOTE(kucuboy @ Dec 6 2014, 11:22 PM)
I believe u answered a lot of people's suspicions. Reception is on the shitty side for me. Hopefully will improve in an update from Samsung
*
Soft optimization may help but it won't make much difference.

QUOTE(sharp56 @ Dec 6 2014, 11:28 PM)
I test my Note 4 according to your test instruction and my Note 4 returns a result RSCP of -75 and Elco of  -8. What is your company's value of minimum acceptable standard of antenna performance and what are the normal standard value of the other phones?
*
The test methodology is quite complicated and it varies with frequency, primary/secondary antenna and a few more factors. I can't remember the figure on top of my head now.

Btw guys, don't worry if you can't find RSCP value, it's only available in 3G.

For 4G, you need to compare RSRP.

Just to also share, since my Note Edge is Category 6 phone and my network is configured with Carrier Aggregation, my signal icon is 4G+ rather than only 4G.

QUOTE(zad78 @ Dec 7 2014, 08:37 AM)
Pardon my ignorance... But does it affect 3g/4g reception or just the call quality?
*
Not sure if you know OSI 7 layer, antenna capability is related to PHY layer performance. 3G or 4G is above the PHY layer.

To put it simply, if the antenna is poor, the signal strength will be poorer (less bars on your phone). When you have less bars, the voice call quality and data rate of your data session (download, FTP, YouTube, Facebook, and etc) is affected.

An analogy would be, imagine the antenna is your ear drum. If you have very good ear drum, you can hear better. After you hear the sound, then only your brain starts to process the info. If your ear drum is bad, it's very hard to hear anything hence there's not much for the brain to process.

I saw this from at below mentioned website. Is this scale still valid?

The LTE Signal Strength Scale:
- Better than -<no spam links>m RSRP is a strong signal
- Between -89dBm and -96dBm is a very good signal
- Between -97dBm and -105dBm is good
- Between -106dBm and -112dBm is fair
- Worse than -113dBm RSRP is poor
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

*
Strong signal, very good signal, and etc are subjective words; however the figures above can be used as a guide.

Also, RSRP is just a power measurement (how strong is the signal), RSRQ is the quality of the signal.

Back to the ear drum analogy, you can hear someone trying to shout into your ear at a club but you can't hear much because the background music is just too loud (interference).
