As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Man Utd signings: Ed Woodward plays down talk of January moves

Manchester United are unlikely to make any signings in the January transfer window, says the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

He added the situation might change if any long-term targets became available but said they would not consider "short-term fixes".

United spent just over £150m in the last window, including a club record £59.7m on winger Angel Di Maria.

They are currently seventh in the Premier League table.

"We are not looking to enter the market for short-term fixes," said Woodward, speaking on the day United posted a 9.9% fall in revenue to £88.7m for the three months to the end of September, which reflected "absence from the Champions League".

"However, we have targets we are looking at for next summer.

"Should any of them become available in January, which is obviously rare, we will consider acting. But it is a low probability."

During the summer transfer window, United also bought Ander Herrera (£28m), Luke Shaw (£27m), Marcos Rojo (£16m) and Daley Blind (£13.8m), as well as spending £6m to bring in Radamel Falcao on loan.

However, they have been hit by a succession of injuries, most recently to midfielder Blind and goalkeeper David De Gea.

Man United revenues down over Champions League failure

Manchester United has said that its revenue fell by 9.9% to £88.7m for the three months to the end of September.

The Old Trafford club lost out on payments from Nike from failing to qualify for the Uefa Champions League.

The fall in income could have been more but was partially compensated for by an increase in sponsorship money and a lower wage bill.

Club boss Ed Woodward said 2014-15 financial results would reflect "absence from the Champions League".

But he said the club had "signed the largest kit sponsorship deal in the history of sport in the first quarter and, with that concluded, we are excited to focus our efforts on the meaningful growth opportunities in sponsorship, digital media and retail and merchandising".

The club's kit deal with Adidas, which kicks in at the start of the 2015-16 season, is worth £750m over ten years.

On top of this, it signed five additional sponsorship deals in the quarter.

However, revenues from both broadcasting and matchdays fell as the cost of missing out on Europe's premier club competition for the first time in two decades took its toll.

On the positive side, Manchester United said employee benefit expenses for the quarter were down 6.6% compared to the same quarter a year ago, thanks mainly to lower player wages.

United, majority owned by the American Glazer family, reiterated that its full year revenue would be between £385m and £395m, around £40m lower than the previous year.

The club is currently seventh in the Premier League table, having made an indifferent start to the season under coach Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal was drafted in at the start of the season after Alex Ferguson's replacement David Moyes left.

Van Gaal's injury concerns for Arsenal test

Louis van Gaal could face a major selection headache for Saturday’s trip to Arsenal, with no fewer than 12 Manchester United players potentially battling injuries after the international break.

David De Gea is a doubt to face the Gunners after dislocating his finger while training with Spain ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus. The Spaniard was not sent back to the Aon Training Complex for treatment, however, which could be a positive sign for Reds supporters.

Meanwhile, the manager will definitely be without summer signing Marcos Rojo at the Emirates Stadium after he dislocated his shoulder in the Manchester derby. There are question marks over Rafael, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, while Luke Shaw could miss out after taking a knock in England’s 3-1 win over Scotland.

Midfield enforcer Daley Blind will watch from the stands after suffering what looked like a serious knee injury in Holland’s 6-0 win over Latvia and Michael Carrick is struggling for fitness after leaving the England camp with a groin problem. There were also concerns over Angel Di Maria after he took a kick to the ankle from Nani during Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Portugal at Old Trafford, while long-term absentees Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard are both still on the treatment table.

Van Gaal has fewer problems up front with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and James Wilson all passing through the break unscathed. Radamel Falcao is the only doubt, though the Colombian is reportedly closing in on a return to action following a three-match absence with a calf injury.

The manager will provide a definitive update on all of United’s injuries during his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex on Friday.

QUOTE
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is set to hand manager Louis van Gaal an almighty boost by declaring himself fit for Saturday evening’s visit to Arsenal.

De Gea dislocated his little finger during a Spain training session last week but the injury is understood to have improved to such an extent that he now believes he has a high chance of starting at the Emirates Stadium.

Sources close to the Spanish team told Sportsmail on Tuesday evening that the United No 1 has ‘an 80 per cent’ chance of making the starting line-up when his club return to Barclays Premier League action this weekend.

No worries, we have Rooney. Van Persie, Falcao, Wilson, Di Maria to demolish theirs. biggrin.gif

I prefer a tight game with a lot of goals. Say 4-3, 5-6, etc. and of course, in United favour. biggrin.gif.

SAF has good and bad transfers like all other managers, no biggie. The only concern before was when schemeichel retired... The goal keeping errors were crazy. Especially bosnich...

Angel Di Maria and David De Gea have both been passed fit for the trip to Arsenal, but there are question marks hanging over the fitness of Michael Carrick and Luke Shaw, among others, while there is disappointing news about Daley Blind, who could be out for six months.

Haih. Pass the ball to Tony V means end of any attack. He's soo bloody 1 dimension and lack of confidence to attack.

I think if he pulled that backheel attempt while playing for United he would get yelled at by Rooney. At Arsenal I think there is less "peer pressure" on him.

A tight offside non-call leading up to that goal but Arsenal have no one to blame except themselves.

And Rooney was unlucky too with that offside call.

I can see why actually. With Rooney, Di Maria and Fellani the Arsenal players have no choice but to mark them closely. What we needed were defensive subs but who would you bring on to replace the two hard workers and the most credible threat on the field? RvP on the other hand had been quiet throughout the match and slowing down in his tracking back.

Great counter move from Di Maria to Rooney, but it began with Fellani feeding the ball to Di Maria in the first place. If not for De Gea's performance I'd think the Afro would get MoTM.

Arsenal actually played very well initially but as the game remained scoreless it seemed they got more and more desperate in their home ground and opened them up for the counters.

finally a back to back win.... lol so hard to get.

ddg and afroman just superb as every game goes by. afroman can pass, can tackle, can grab the ball from ddg long kick. really a transformed player

remembered ancelotti said why he sold adm. adm lost ball in critical times. what a 1 v 1 miss and at fnal att, he lost the ball again when feed him on the wing. luckily didn't get punished by that

young also a transformed player under lvg... can def well and cross well

bola tu bulat. tu la confident sangat. awak ingat awak main bagus awak boleh menang? last last it comes down to luck jugak.

we took our chances well cept for angel's chance. considering the distance he had to cover and it's 90 minutes already it is understandable why he cant put the match away.

bola tu bulat. tu la confident sangat. awak ingat awak main bagus awak boleh menang? last last it comes down to luck jugak.

we took our chances well cept for angel's chance. considering the distance he had to cover and it's 90 minutes already it is understandable why he cant put the match away.

di maria made the difference especially in our counter attacks.

but plz lvg, dont play with 3 CBs when the 3CBs never played together before sweat.gif can see the 3 of them especially blackett were pretty nervous with the ball.

Blackett plays like we are leading by 10 goals. Every time the ball goes to him, he takes his own sweet time to pass forward or backwards. Been pressured by Arsenal a few times, he was lucky not to be caught out lol

Smalling did well. Blackett was especially nervous. McNair still prone to bouts of lost concentration but overall did well. McNair is LVG Irish Lucky Charm.

I would too considering their last 3-4 matches, they basically been losing/draw due to counter attacks. No defensive discipline at all.

Kesian Danny boy. He left cause he wants to play more centrally but looks like more time on the left flank.

I think people expect Arsenal to play offensively, and when the time is ticking down and they have yet to score the players found themselves pushing more and more forward and thus opening them up to counters. It's disturbing how they never fix this habit. Perhaps the earlier hard fought comeback wins for them instilled a false sense of security for them.

Shaq to pack for Old Trafford?

Manchester United are set to raid one of Louis van Gaal's old clubs, according to The Express. Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri is a target for the Old Trafford boss, who is willing to let Ander Herrera leave in exchange for the Swiss international. Meanwhile, the same report claims United are also keen on Fabio Coentrao, Pepe and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Wilshere's 2020 vision

Meanwhile, in player-not-going-anywhere news, The Mirror states that Jack Wilshere, who was injured in Arsenal's loss to Manchester United, is set to sign a new contract to keep him at the Emirates until 2020.

since this past 2 yrs arsenal fans are much talking shite to us (compare to liverpool and chelsea in this board), last night kinda sweet.

i think luck and lvg tactic won us the game. i'll take the negative display and the positive result.

that mental block playing against us still lingers. if they dun bounce back in the next game, it could prove to be a big blow for the rest of their season.

meanwhile, we have to build our momentum from this game onwards. we have been hoping for a very long time now, but we still have to hope the injury curse stops and players will start coming back to make our strongest team available. hopefully we can keep the tradition of getting stronger after Christmas..

It's disturbing how Wenger never fixes this habit. Been at least 7 years he's been doing that since I firstly noticed.
he's smarter than you think.

At United: fourth choice, after rvp rooney falcao
At Arsenal: second choice, after giroud
At Spurs: third choice, after adebayor soldado
*
When Walcott is back, I think he will be relegated to 3rd choice.

amidst our injury bad luck, McNair has been our good luck charm for a while now... rclxms.gif
http://thepeoplesperson.com/2014/11/23/pad...-man-utd-61674/?

QUOTE
He told reporters: "I am convinced that I made the right decision. This is the life of a manager, the result is always giving you the reason or not [to pick these players]. I cannot do other things because I don't have so many players.

"Shaw has come back from internationals not fit enough so we made him fit, but then he gets injured again. Then I have to give Young a game but Young is not fit enough to play 90 minutes. I have said this before. Then I have to change the line-up again.

"I think the players have done fantastic. Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw, how old are they? So when you play against a team like Arsenal, a team that are always changing position, you have to have communication. I think that is pretty good, but I was not pleased with the overall performance."

But also can't brain why he don't play Herrera recently

Actually De Gea's saves last night were pretty normal, most of the attacks were pretty straight forward. Almost all of the shots were aimed directly at him, his God mode was against Everton lol.

agreed. hence my vote to fellaini / young as motm. some shaky moment (that awful clear ball that resulting wilshere one on one with him) but still solid, not spectacular.

i never thought i said this but young / fellaini is our best player last night.

Well, its 3 pts that matters. Beautiful football is all nice to watch, but the end result needs to be there. (you can't be telling your boss how fancy or the efforts you've put in to the presentation was, but the fact is that the client has rejected it biggrin.gif)

we have not field our best lineup yet this season mind you. each game we have 4/5 best players out for selection. i dont mind us playing ugly as long as we get 3 points,. no point holding 80% possession 10 shots and 0 goals. whistling.gif

For me holds up the play and plays with his head down. A few times can see ADM making the run but RVP keeps his head down trying to dribble pass the defenders.

Let's not look down on Hull. They did well against Spurs until Ramirez got sent off.

That said, I wanna see Wilson playing for 90 minutes too.

A Xabi Alonso interview. Not much about us, but a hilarious read even for a United fan. The bits about Gotze and Arbeloa were funny.

Wilson will get his chance for full 90 minutes very very soon. Its unfortunate we have been kicked out so early in the english cup competition otherwise we could probably a string of youngsters dominate the line-up, even for EPL matches.

Blacket, McNair and Wilson raise due to series of injury among the seniors. Before this we have no idea who they are and what they are capable of.

Januzaj btw is at different level already. Got skills and creative but not strong enough. Easily can be muscled out. This is EPL son.

Agreed. RVP aint the type of player who would make chances for himself. he rely on others for the right ball for him to finish it. he need creative player who can find him and deliver the pass. unfortunately the best players we hv for this probably the ones tht arent playing.. herrera and mata.

wt falcao still unfit RVP deserve to starts. as for wilson its good to see him getting minutes but for me he aint doing enaugh yet to move ahead of RVP. i think wilson will get his chances on busy december

Well. I think to bring out the best in RVP, he nids to play up top, solo striker. Iinm, against Arsenal, RVP was played slightly to the right? With the job to force Sanchez to track back to mark RVP.

If RVP is given the free role as a striker, he still can produce the quality imho.

We used to have youngsters by the name of Gerrard Pique and Paul Pogba.

Just look at where they are now.

Pique cause he homesick and we chosed Evans over him.

but pogba. cry.gif

Imagine him in our midfield now.

I'd play Pogba next to Helela and then Blind as our LCB. laugh.gif

screw pogba, if saf had given in to his demand, it would've messed up our dressing room as well as encouraged all the youngsters to behave the same way.

I think Januzaj is paid more currently than what Pogba requested. I thought the main reason he left was SAF chosed not to trust him and play him and rather play Rafael and Park in CM instead of him.

Even his new contract is around 70-80k a week only. Any what are we paying Nani and Young?

It's like asking your office tea lady to meet the customer instead of letting the fresh developers a chance.
