Added on June 10, 2007, 6:20 pmDo you think my sulcata is showing pyramid sign? I have only feed him Sawi (nothing else)
*
Nice sulcata u have there, no signs of pyramiding yet as your tortoise is still small and rounded.

QUOTE(ntlc87 @ Jun 11 2007, 01:33 AM)
ill be back to post some of my RES..brows.gif

brows.gif brows.gif RES Returns..

QUOTE(xsaintx @ Jun 11 2007, 09:14 PM)
my RES wouldnt eat the vege (sawi) i gave them. and they dont seem to like the sun very much. everytime i bring them out for sunbathing they will hide under shades. how ar?
*
Try kangkung, turtles prefer kangkung more compared to sawi.

QUOTE(xsaintx @ Jun 12 2007, 12:18 AM)
if dont feed them for 2-3 days..they wont die? it seems cruel leh.
and wats the difference between basking and sunbathing..?
thats wat i did but they were always hiding. guess the afternoon sun is too hot for them..
thanks for the advice.
i see..thanks.
*
In the wild, they wont be eating daily. 2-3 days once on average.

QUOTE(xsaintx @ Jun 14 2007, 12:09 AM)
i'm looking for sulfa block or calcium blocks for my RES.. are those necessary? where can i find them? seems like those local fish stores near my area doesnt sell them..
*
Res dont need calcium blocks, vege + pellets + sunbath is enough for them.

want to ask, i got 2 terrapins..u know, the ones from petshops? how come, one of them grow so big where as the other one hasnt grown an cm at all =/...

everyday feed them the terrapin food...its been 2 mths ade =/...and how do differentiate which one is male and female?
ps. what do i do with a baby cobra the length of 10cm?
*
Separate them, so that both of them get the same amount of food. You can only know their gender when they are matured which is around your palm size.

Better buy those 3 inch specimens, they are more hardy and you can differentiate them whether they are healthy or not. Those 50cent sized(hatchlings) ST if given bad husbandry would lead to MBD which may cause death in months and its more challenging to take care of them.

how's the bite force of a common snapper as compared to an ally snapper then??

QUOTE(lessilly @ Jul 24 2007, 10:45 PM)
ally is much stronger i think.
*
Most likely the same, but common snapper wont grow as big as ally snapper. Bigger ally snapper's bite IINM is the 3rd one most powerful, 1st Crocs and 2nd Shark(Jaws). sweat.gif

can this happen to non-star tortoises too? my newly acquired elongateds doesn't seem too keen on eating. or maybe they're still getting used to their new home  hmm.gif

That's why they are not eating well.

QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Jul 28 2007, 02:17 AM)
my sawback turtle loves to eat...everytime i feed him no matter how many times...its never enough...
*
Sawback is different sis, they'll eat what they were offered.

Btw, what im doing now is to starve them for like 2-3 days and feed them a lot of sawi. That should do it and they ae eating those sawi like crazy. Starving i guess, but its good for them too since in the wild they wont be eating daily also. Now i feed mine 3-4 times per week and it works, i can see their growth line too.

lotong is leaf monkey LOL..
Callagur borneoensis (painted terrapin) is occasionally referred to as Tuntong Laut. my friend call them tembikai lol...
you referring to Chrysemis picta? i don't know if their tail will actually grow back... plus there's risk of their genitals being cut off with the tails.
addition to the points u guys have discussed: proper basking site, to let the turtles completely dry off both the carapace and plastron.

p/s: i have experimentally raised turtles on Reptomin (as staple) and completely without sunlight, no problem. (not that i encourage doing this)

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Sep 4 2007, 01:50 PM)
chelonian keepers must remember that most turtles/tortoises would probably outlive us, so we have to ensure our kids would take care of them or have to get them adopted to good homes. If they had outgrown their tanks, best way is to buy bigger tank  laugh.gif
*
Or built a nice big place for them. brows.gif

QUOTE(bebee @ Sep 4 2007, 03:38 PM)
don't u know what in penang got a temple for turtle, tortoise to release?
its not wild la.. got ppl feed them every day
some grow very very big and some has been there more den 100 years
*
Not advisable to release them there, you can see a lot of shell and bones of dead chelonians there. Why? Lack of care and awareness about the animals there. You can adopt it here also, they are ppl that would adopt it happily from you. smile.gif
