There are a few shops selling them but beware, most of the tortoise and turtles are sick. Jalan Pasar is on the right side of the road on the way to Berjaya Times Square from cheras, take a right turn after u see a Post Office.

yo all...
ive been referring to this http://www.turtlepuddle.org/health/small_tank_filter.html, http://www.forestview.dpsnc.net/student050...rtlehabitat.pdf
& few others...ok now what's the best setup for terrapins habitat? as for know, i have old aquariums revival, few river rocks..that's all..currently wash it 2-3days manually whistling.gif

the item i was thinking:

water pump - rm?
filter?
gravel plate?
uv light?

what say u all?now my aquarium is as big as the pictar on the pdf biggrin.gif
*
Canister filter is a good choice but they are a bit expensive, good ones that i recommended are Eheim. There's a small canister which i forget which model but it retails around rm200 mark. That canister filter includes a waterpump and filter in 1 item. UV light, the smallest one is around rm47 selling at Pets Safari, Ikano.

What i can suggest is, try to sun bath them in the morning around 9am-11am. What food your auntie feed the turtle ?

And do remember to put a basking spot for the turtles, just put 1 big rock inside the tank so that they can be dry when they want to.

Hi, nice to meet u too. wave.gif

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Jan 18 2007, 11:01 AM)
where's ekiddie dude? i want another side neck lah. haha. now my res growing bigger (ada ke growing smaller?). sad to say, i let go my 4 smaller res 2 weeks ago, and keeping other bigger 4 in my keepings. now they enjoy more space, and happier as i treat them with mealworm. upgraded my tank with 2 levels filter. ah just another common box filter but i put them stacked. i removed all gravel, and put also in the filter a pack of activated carbon. i hope it will keep my tank crystal clear for a longer time.

i went for my workshop last week for 5 days. when i went home, 2 res disappeared from tank. and the filter stop working. wtf my tank was soo dirty. my ears turn black! i was told there are some mod work in my room when i wasn't there. shit lar. they used my power extension and plucked out the water filter plug. aiyah. i searched for my res and found 1 in drain, and another 1 in my sisters from. pity them. they were in mess. lot of hairs and dust. wash and scrub them with water and tooth brush, and put back into the cleaned tank. adjust the tank layout, and bam it's better now. hehe.

maybe i'll upload my updated tank pictah after this.  biggrin.gif

oh and aquaria now got turtles. green sea turtles and painted turtles are featured at the front row. woah and bought excitedly a turtle tie pin worth RM10. but for me it's priceless. and im wearing it now. yeeha

*
Where u let them go ? Still wearing the pin tie ? Hahah, i know how u feel. thumbup.gif

haha. and siryusly people in my office know me because of my turtles. they call me penyu instead of my name. adik penyu. oh shi-

QUOTE(srawrats @ Jan 21 2007, 04:05 AM)
Hi guys, I was wondering is it easy to keep a labi-labi? Went fishing the other day and caught one bout 30 cms in length.

Thanks
*
WC(wild caughts) are always not recommended but it depends actually. Either its for food or pet and how you take care of them.

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jan 21 2007, 01:45 PM)
that's why we need to see the pic. maybe you got a Chitra chitra, who knows?  smile.gif

fyi, almost all the local turtles/tortoise here are under CITES I or II. that includes our common boxie. however, i'd say that local authorities are 'not being clear on the legalities of the subject matter' so no need to  sweat.gif  so much. i once cilok 3 hawksbill from a hatchery, nobody noticed also.

under Perhilitan, license for animals under Appendix II (protected) could be applied for RM10. however, i have yet to see PERHILITAN's lists of fully protected and protected species with any turtles/tortoise in them. not even the great leatherback. really appreciate if anyone can provide the list, so that we all could be clear on the status.

anyway, the tokans in this forum are more concerned on educating people about turtle welfare rather than regulations, unlike some PERHILITAN duds who supposedly uphold the law but didn't really care about animal welfare ... whistling.gif
*
Chitra Chitra ? Yeah, who knows you are lucky to get them. Even me, i am more concerned about the turtle welfare rather than illegal or not. Regulations sometimes are not that concerned about the turtle welfare. Some even died when those Perhilitan confiscated and they dont even care and just throw it away. Even worst than the people having them.

QUOTE(srawrats @ Jan 21 2007, 03:05 PM)
i see. anyways, hopeful to be able to post the pics by next week when i visit dad later next week.

i'm also wondering whether to have plants in the aquarium is a good idea or not.
Very frankly the last time i had an aquarium was almost 10 years ago. A lot of updating myself. So consider myself as a noob.

Regards

p/s any good sites for aquarium for terrapins? rclxub.gif
*
You just need a good filtration system for a softshell, and about the gravel find rounded ones like camillenoir suggested. Another thing is the tank size, since its 30cm SCL you should consider getting a bigger tank so that the softshell are comfortable.

actually its normal sand. a bit on the finer side, so it looks a bit clay-ish. the turtles lay in them, so it should be ok (considering that boxies can be really picky on nesting sites).

thanks for the wishes uzairi, jared. more to come  icon_rolleyes.gif

Yeah, hope we can be one of the turtle/tortoise breeder in the future.

If only the flesh is missing they can grow back. Unless those missing are their tail with bones. smile.gif

QUOTE(dEviLs @ Jan 28 2007, 06:27 PM)
Hi guys, have a few questions on star tortoise:

1) Do i need to provide them with a water dish?
2) I m using corn cob pellets as bedding, is it fine?
3) I m not suppose to feed them high protein food right ?
4) Do I need to bath them ?

Thanks in advance  biggrin.gif
*
I will answer the 3 question for you since others had already answered your question. About the food, leafy green are recommended like sawi(mustard green) for their daily staple food and alternate them with bendi(lady finger), kacang buncis(french beans), kacang pangjang(long beans), Exo Terra Tortoise pellets and once a month labu(pumpkin) as pumpkin is a good natural dewormer and good for their stomach.

QUOTE(dEviLs @ Jan 28 2007, 08:43 PM)
Thanks alot, that helps biggrin.gif

About the drinking water, do I need anti-clorine for that ?
And also whats the best way to soak them ? Like how deep the water should be and the temperature. I read somewhere that 40c is ideal unsure.gif

http://www.cngui.com/Article/Special/yinxing/Index.html
Also found this useful site, but in Chinese blush.gif
*
40c is a bit too high i can say, just make it lukewarm.

Yeah, boxie prefer kangkung because that is their staple food in the wild. You can spot kankung in almost longkang.

Well, what u can do is feed him some pumpkin as its a natural dewormer. Like what sam said, nothing we can help as he's suddenly like that. I think as long as he's eating then it should be fine. Try to feed him tomatoes and jackfuit to get his appetite back.
