Since you have a common snapper last time, then i don't think its hard for you. They are roughly the same just that they differ in the way they eat and how active they are. Ally snappers are more aggressive compared to common snapper. And they don't chase their food like how common snapper did. They need a good filtration system to prevent algae build up on their carapace. Try to avoid handling them as they can be quite aggressive and might snap you finger off easily. Other than that i don't think there's anything left.

Hi again uzairi! Thanks again for your feedback and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me. Glad to know that caring for them is similiar to the common snapper, I loved my snapper...unfortunately I had to let it go. Anyway I am back for good now and finally setlling down, meaning I can dedicate more time to my pets. Now that I know I can take care of an Ally Snapper.....all I need to do is to find a place or someone to sell me a hatchling biggrin.gif

Another thing i missed, they grow quite big and you need a big tank ready for them. Furthermore they can grow quite fast in the earlier years of their lives and they ate quite a lot so be ready to fork some money for their foods.

Hi kamekame,

Yeah...tell me about it...I have covered almost all the bigger pet shops around Klang Valley now, still no luck. My snapper was around 6-7 inches in shell length when I gave him away, only had him for two years. As for pics, sorry to say I don't have any as it was quite a while ago and back then I didn't have a digital camera.

Hi again uzairi! Heheh yeah...been reading up care sheets and skulking in other forums to learn more about Ally Snappers. I am quite aware as to how big they can get and I am not too worried about space as I am ready for it. I don't mind spending a little on food too, so long as my pet is happy! biggrin.gif Only issue now is to find someone/somewhere that sells Ally Snapper hatchlings....*sigh*

good news, found an alligator snapping turtle at taman desa aquarium. dunno if hatchling or not but size was around 2 inch. selling at rm160. they only have 1 though ( used to have 3, but 2 sold already)

p.s: at first i wanted to keep this info to myself since im also very interested in having one ally too, but not right now since im quite broke after raya, plus no space to put the ally plus am concentrating in my new cichlid tank project

Was wondering, is it safe to use water straight from the tap when doing a water change?
even without putting anti-chlorine, aquarium salt or let it age overnight? blink.gif
previously i use dechlorinated, salted and aged water but quite troublesome since i have to store it first in a big tong plus need to carry the water using buckets sweat.gif . so was wondering of a more efficient way to do water changes wink.gif

Its better to use the old method and safe the animals later. If we use straight from tap water, the chlorine level and ph level is not suitable for most aquatic animals.
