My Rig:
AMD Phenom II X4 955
12GB RAM 1600
AMD Radeon R9 270 (non X)
GA-MA785G Gigabyte Motherboard
Windows 7
PSU 500W (80% efficient)

I just replaced the GPU, but realised that my CPU is the cause of bottlenecks. I can sometimes get great FPS from Tomb Raider and Splinter Cell Blacklist, but the jerkiness is very obvious... sometimes 70+fps, sometimes 20+ fps...

So, I hear that this can be fixed by replacing the CPU, but my mobo is about 5 years old. Not sure if can change to FX6300.
Should I get a new mobo+processor instead? Can recommend best combo?

TQ sifus for advice...

Nope. Phenom II X6 1100T is the most you can go. You can try getting a good third party heatsink and overclock to the max. However, your 500W may not be enough for maximum overclocking.

If you want more, sell your CPU, mobo and RAM for new setup.

Core i5-4460 - RM569
Asrock B85M-HDS motherboard - RM239
Kingston 8GB DDR3-1600 x1 - RM229

If you are going overclock path and hitting the wall, I suggest getting Seasonic S12 II 620W at RM299 or Coolermaster V 650W Semi-modular at RM369 from Viewnet or C-Zone.
