Need to ask advice from all the Gurus.

I just bought my new rig

C2D E4300
Biostar P965PT.

When i tried to overclock.. i can only hit 230Mhz on my FSB.

I've tried changing the VCore voltage to 1.4 and increase the FSB further but the BIOS just won't boot up. It seems to power shutdown and reboots.

I heard the E4300 is an excellent overclocker....but it seems like i'm missing some steps here...

Any advise on the mobo or E4300...would be greatly appreciated

im not pro maa...dont said like that... sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif
update ur bios to the latest that support E4 series (P96CA119)...then set ur memory divider to 400...the E4 series need 400 divider to be 1:1...gud luck...
*
Thanks for the tip...i'll changed the Memory Divider from Auto to 400.

Anything else i need to change other than
1) FSB
2) Memory divider

What about
1) CPU Voltage -should i leave it to Startup or change to 1.325V ?
2) DRAM timings - Auto or manual set?
3) CPU thermal monitor -enabled or disabled? The Bios from RebelHaven )one i'm using) sets it to disable.

Thanks again..

1) CPU Voltage  -should i leave it to Startup or change to 1.325V ?
= manually...depend on ur processor need...u have to test the stability...( ur 1st target will be 9x356 = 3.2Ghz at stock voltage 1.325v)

2) DRAM timings - Auto or manual set?
= manually...according to the spec n timing (mostly 4-4-4-12 for DDR2...tighten timing at high frequency is the best)

3) CPU thermal monitor  -enabled or disabled? The Bios from RebelHaven )one i'm using) sets it to disable.
= all cpu feature are set to disable (so it wouldn't disturb ur overcloking)

for stability purpose maybe u can increase 1 step ur Vmch...(put fan blow at it will be nice)

others...pls monitor ur proc temperatures...ur psu +12 vrail...

after consider all the setting...run orthos prime..using blend test...if it can stable around 6 hours plus...then ur setting is gud... rclxm9.gif happy overclocking

***FYI...currently for E4 siries on TF 965PT...max fsb hit is 400 on phase cooling...others normally will wall at 360fsb...hopefully ur E4 will be a nice overclock processor...others info...week 40 batch will mostly clock at 3.4Ghz...week 41 around 3.2Ghz...

Thanks for the tips..

Another info...i'm using Corsair value DDR2 2x512 667Mhz. Should the divider be changed to 400Mhz.
I noticed if i increased the processor FSB, the memory mhz will increased as well -based on CPUZ. Is there a way to lock the DDR2 memory to 667Mhz? I want to OC the e4300 to 333FSB with the DDR2 at 667Mhz as well.

I also noticed tht when OC the CPU FSB to 250..my temperature is arounf 41-42 at idle...50+ when at full load (check with Biostar Hardware Monitor). Is this normal?

Thanks again.

Just tried to OC from 1.86 to 2.33 (333 x 7), not able to go higher due to my sucking RAM limited me... I cant go higher than this since when the RAM speed higher than 667MHz, errors will occur definitely...

I discover another problem is, even I ald OC till 2.33, but the CPU-Z 1.38 just show me 333 x 6 which is only 1999GHz... sweat.gif  Then, it will show me I'm using 965PT Deluxe Edition but I'm not.

One more thing, I cant run TAT at all, have anyone encounter the problem same like me? blink.gif  Therefore, I use CoreTemp to read the temperature, guess wat, it show me 43C at idle temp. sweat.gif  I don't think it is accurate coz my previous mobo, Gigabyte 945GM show me 48C at idle....

Honestly, why so many problems happen to me. Is the mobo problem? Or just the software compatibility problem? wink.gif

Try setting ur memory frequency in BIOS to 400Mhz. Set the CPU voltage to 1.325, FSB to 333. You should be able to go.

My C2D rig.

E4300 C2D -OC to 3015Mhz (335x9)
2x512MB 667Mhz DDR2 Corsair
Biostar TForce 965PT
250GB WD HDD
ACBEL 450W PSU

Here's how i did it. (A basic guide to help those with problems)

1) Updated the latest bios from RebelHaven.
2) Use Overclock Manual
3) Set the VCore to 1.3125
4) Set Memory Frequency to 400Mhz -to achieve 1:1 timing with the E4300 procesor
5) Set the Memory voltage to 2
6) Memory SPD set to 4-4-4-12- the rest auto (you can leave all to auto)
7) Set the CPU FSB to 335

At idle - temperature is at around 39-41 'C
At full load (running Prime stress and SuperPI together) -temperature is at around 48~52 'C

However i do have one small problem.... my usb port doesn't seem to supply enough to my portable HDD. I need to use a DC adapter then it'll work. I don;t face this problem on my old P4 rig.

Is there any thing wrong with the MOBO with the USB power?

Hey Great ! 1st E4300 with 965PT here.
Looking forward for your o'c result nod.gif try 3.6GHz ?
Edit:
About the HDD prob, maybe u can use 2 USB port to run the portable HDD.
*
3.6Ghz.... not too keen on it bro......just only for bragging rites. Running only on stock heatsink.... smile.gif wanna prolong my baby longer.... scared to overstretch her.

I've tried with 2 USB...one is DC adapter..... but i don;t understand why it works with 1 USB on my old P4, MSI boardP722 and normal PSU.

Is there a problem with Biostar 965 with 80gb portable HDD? My 40GB works just fine.

What screenshots do i need to post my O/C results? Havn't posted OC results b4..so pls do pardon me.

I noticed a lot of ppl post the CPU temp after they have completed their stress stress.... it kinda drops 5-10 'Celcius or even more after the stress test. I'll try to post mine in middle of da "Fever".

Cheers
