Murder in the First is an American detective drama television series that airs on TNT. The series was created by Steven Bochco and Eric Lodal, and stars Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson. Set in San Francisco, the show follows a single case across an entire season. TNT ordered 10 episodes on September 19, 2013, which premiered on June 9, 2014
They are very similar in the sense that the whole season focuses on one case!!!
And they both share the same creator, namely Steven Bochco.
It is interesting how after almost 20 years, how the same story line you can render two different series.
How?
In this case, two points.
1) You change the title from Murder One to Murder in the First.
2) Things that had a "godlike status" in the 90s movie stars are now changed to "nerds" (the next Steve Jobs/Bill Gates)
Having said that, Steven Bochco does spin an interesting tale and for you Harry Potter fans out there, this series only adds weight to the fact the Draco Malfroy (Tom Felton) is rotten to the core... Or is he?!
If you like investigative crime show, give this a spin why don't you...
(I am now in episode S01E05)

Okay, finished all 10 episodes (that is the whole 1st season)
Here are some observations
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
1) Not quite sure what to make of the two main leads Terry English (Taye Diggs) & Hildy Mulligan (Kathleen Robertson). They are "grey" characters and I do not agree with their "do anything to get the job done" attitudes... Or maybe it is just my age showing.
2) Not sure if Tom Felton pulled off the Erich Blunt character. It is a very complex character to play, for someone so young. I think it is kinda embarrassing that the support characters played by Richard Schiff & James Cromwell kinda ran rings around him....
3) Writing is a little.... lazy... I kinda guess what they are doing before they did it, so... And have to add, production wise, it is good enough to make me watch to the end.
4) For viewers with little kids, please be advise, there are brief nude scenes in the series (mainly gal and guys butts), so if you are sensitive to that topic....
