PerfectDisk® Version 8 brings a new level of power and ease to disk defragmentation for today's forward-thinking users and enterprises. PerfectDisk delivers a unique set of features and benefits not found in any other solution. Proven. Tested. Microsoft Certified.

What's New and Enhanced Features in Perfect Disk Version 8.0?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW patent-pending Resource SaverTM technology allows PerfectDisk to find all the pieces of a file without first opening the file, saving all the system resources typically required to open each file. This allows PerfectDisk to more efficiently defragment even the largest of drives with minimal system impact.

Statistics: The following NEW features have been introduced in the Statistics:

Addition of new graphing ability to visually track fragmentation and performance statistics over a period of time.

Additional File Type statistics have been added. There are several pre-defined file types based on file extension (text, program, music, graphic, video) as well as users can add additional extension to these defined file types. This allows users to quickly identify what "types" of files are on their system (number of files and size on drive) and which ones are taking up the most space.

Last Analysis or defrag bitmap statistics are available. This allows USERS to run PerfectDisk and see the result of a defrag pass that occurred (at) some time in the past when the user wasn't monitoring the result.

AutoPilot Scheduling: The entire scheduling capabilities are now under the NEW name AutoPilot Scheduling. The following NEW and ENHANCED features have been introduced in the Scheduling:

Scheduling has been ENHANCED to allow for more robust combinations. For example, you may schedule a defrag to run weekly on Mondays and Thursdays only.

NEW Screen Saver scheduling for the Professional version of Windows has been introduced. This allows users to have PerfectDisk automatically defragment their drive(s) when Windows detects that their computer is "idle" (not being used by the user) and the drive hasn't been defragmented in X days (user definable). This gives an additional method to allow you more flexibility to scheduling defragmentation.

NEW Single File Defrag: Rather than defragmenting the entire drive, this allows users to quickly and efficiently select a single file for defragmentation (e.g., graphic or video file that you may be working on, game file, etc.).

NEW Consolidate Free Space Defrag: part of PerfectDisk's Space Restoration TechnologyTM. This method creates the largest piece of contiguous free space available which can be useful prior to creating large files or in performing partition resizing operations. It is also useful prior to compressing a virtual hard drive on a virtual machine, as a large amount of contiguous space can be recaptured.

NEW I/O throttling: PerfectDisk automatically detects if the drive is "busy" and thus reduces its drive I/O usage during that time. This allows PerfectDisk to run on very busy drives without imposing any additional load.

NEW CPU throttling: PerfectDisk allows you to raise or lower the CPU priority at which it runs. While PerfectDisk actually uses very little in CPU resources, it allows customers that have CPU bound systems to feel comfortable running PerfectDisk at a lower priority and not impose a noticeable CPU load on the system.

NEW Automatic shutdown after defrag: PerfectDisk has the ability to automatically shut down the system after a defrag pass has been performed (Workstation versions of Windows only).

NEW Power Management: PerfectDisk detects if a system is running on battery (UPS) and then decides whether to stop or not start defragmentation. This is most applicable to laptop users who need to preserve battery life. This is also useful for systems running on a UPS.

NEW On Screen Help: PerfectDisk has introduced the On Screen Help functionality that gives you an overview of the actions that can be performed when a particular section of PerfectDisk is in focus. The help window is located at the right side of the PerfectDisk window and can be resized or closed.

It's slow when it scan it for the 1st time.

But other than that, I noticed a significant increase in speed. It defrags much faster now.

What's new in PerfectDisk build 8.00.35
  • PerfectDisk Command Center
    1. Some enhancements were made to the Command Center:
    2. Command Center will refresh every 30 seconds to get the latest data
    3. Reports are now color coded to indicate alerts/warnings
    4. Print functionality was added to Reports
    5. Ability to connect to a remote computer was added to the Report results
    6. Several changes were made to the Managed Computers functionality. Browsing computers was fixed and made faster. Bugs were corrected when manually adding computers. Enhancements were incorporated to make it easier to know when computers did not have assigned logins.
    7. Screen Saver and One-time schedules were added to the Schedule Report.
    8. Remote Desktop Connection does not work if the Command Center is on a X64 or IA64 operating system. This has been corrected but will require an un-install and re-install of the Command Center.
    9. You could not edit a screen saver schedule from the Command Center. This has been corrected.
    10. Email notification did not always work as expected. We have fixed this and tried to give more meaningful error messages if the email configuration is not valid.
  • PerfectDisk Client
    1. Some enhancements were made to PerfectDisk:
    2. Ability to abort a schedule shutdown was added to the Tools menu
    3. Additional statistics were added including a Drive Performance Rating and historical file and free space fragmentation trends
    4. Print functionality was added to the logs and statistics.
    5. When installing v8.0 over an existing v7.0 installation, some PerfectDisk v7.0 settings were not correctly migrated to v8.0. This has been corrected.
    6. When using Config.ini to preconfigure all v8.0 schedules, settings, etc, some values were not correctly set. This has been corrected.
    7. Schedule maximum duration was incorrectly set if the schedule included both online and offline passes. This has been corrected.
    8. Even though a schedules pass should occur in series, it some times started defragging all drives in parallel. This was due to a timing condition and has been fixed.
    9. There were some issues with single file defrag and excluding files on mount points. This has been corrected.
    10. There were several Exchange defrag issues with configuration settings and schedules. They have all been fixed.

Enhancements to Version 8 Coming

We are pleased to announce that we are bringing enhancements to Version 8, about a month after the product's launch. They will be available as part of Service Pack (SP) 1. The official release date for SP 1 is October 20th, but it will likely be available earlier. It will be available to anyone running Version 8 via the AutoUpdate capability. You can, of course, always check for updates from the Help tab in PerfectDisk.

Here is just some of what you'll find in SP 1:

- A new Performance tab that includes bar charts showing file fragmentation and free space fragmentation for a user's drives, before and after PerfectDisk's defrag passes, over a period of time. This will let you more easily see the direct benefits of regularly defragmenting.

- New drive performance information that shows the health of a user's drives. This graphical information, displayed in bar chart form, lets users easily see how their drives are performing. The drive health information is based on fragmentation levels of data files, free space, system files and directories.

- Enhanced Command Center reports. Color-coding has been added for warnings and alerts, making it easier to see problems and potential problems.

- New Auto-refresh of tasks status in the Command Center.

- A new Abort Shutdown button to allow an easier way to abort a computer shutdown.

- New Print functionality for the statistics available within PerfectDisk.

There are also other minor enhancements made, as well as bug fixes. Look for SP 1 over the next few days, and receive even more benefits from defragmentation with PerfectDisk 8.

You'll notice a slight lag when running CPU hog apps, somehow I find that the Invisitasking took up quite an amount of RAM.

i believe perfectdisk and diskeeper is among the best defragmenter software around. im used to be diskeeper user, but staff convince me enough to switch to perfectdisk, which is better IMO. even white paper proved it as well.
