Hi guys, I'm new in here. Just want some suggestion regarding my desktop customization.

Last few months I customize one for dad (which occasionally I borrowed it for gaming), as i owned a lousy laptop.
Price is RM2800++ with Ori OS and other cha-ba-lang stuff.
Specs was:
-I5 4440 3.1ghz
-Gigabyte B85M-D3H
-4GB 1600 DDR3 RAM
-Sapp R7 260X OC 2GB
-WB Blue 1TB
-Aerocool Strike X 500W PSU
-LG DVD, Samsung 19.5inch LCD LED, W8.1 64bit etc.

Which happen cpu auto shutdown occasionally (twice in a week?), could it be possible low PSU?

Now I'm getting mine as laptop (7years) died. >w<
-I7 4770K 3.5GHZ - RM1085
-Z87-G41 PC MATE - RM 325
-8GB RAM Kingston FuryX - RM277
-Kingston SSD (120GB) - RM 239
-WD Green HDD (2TB) - RM257
-Sapp R7 260X OC 2GB - RM445
-Cooler Master G650M 650W PSU - RM325

Just wonder is the PSU sufficient to power it? >w<
Compare to my previous customization, cost addtional (rm1127) cry.gif
Other like DVD, Monitor will buy the same I guess...
Roughly RM4k... sweat.gif still thinking buy or not such price.

Majority use for gaming , especially for AC series (Assassin Creed Unity coming) rclxms.gif

Any suggestions for cheaper or value per ringgit hardware for this?
Thanks in Advance. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Your i5 machine is having random shut downs? hmm.gif
Might be the CPU overheating... You may need to clean your CPU heatsink, and ensure that the heatsink is properly seated. Stock LGA1150 heatsink can be notoriously tricky to install if you are not familiar with the installation. icon_idea.gif

Are you upgrading, or are you getting a new machine? hmm.gif

Don't bother with PC Depot... I found out the selections are pretty scarce... sweat.gif

Hi Bro, haha. My father I5... some sort like random shut down... maybe 1-2 times in a week. CPU light all are off, but i need to press power button 2 times to turn it on again.
I asked PC depot they also no idea. LOL blink.gif
Ya... i familiar with specs but not installation... so is possible heatsink not properly seated? I'll google and check.

I upgrading from my spoiled Laptop (core 2 duo) ... haha.
But Pc Depot seems to be more selection in my Area... KL would be plenty choices I guess.

Thinking of getting I5 4440 instead of I7, and put extra budget on GPU? like R9 270X? (suggestion from a friend). >w<

Most likely your PSU is not providing enough power to sustain the system. Is the Aerocool PSU a true power PSU? If it isn't, you will be better off getting a new PSU (get those from Corsair, Tagan, Silverstone or Seasonic). A 500W true power PSU will be enough for your build.

Based on my experience, I always have my PC shutdown automatically when I was using cheap PSU. I had never once encounter such problem after using true power PSU ever since.

Hi Man, thanks for your opinion. But how to determine TRUE Power PSU? base on price?
For this build, I think I'm getting CoolerMaster PSU.

I would say invest more in GPU than getting i7, and personally doesn't really recommend Cooler Master, there are better choices out there, like those brand suggested by Thrust.

If you're from Penang, I would suggest GTech solution (in Mainland though), they carry more choices than PC-Depot, and they selling in lowyat forum too.

i5 is sufficient for gaming. No need to spend a premium for i7.

Back to PSU, if you get the brands I've recommended, they are all true power.

BTW i5 is not sufficient for games title from 2014 above. I had bad experience with i5 3570K even OC where is not sufficient for new titles games especially multiplayer mode. shakehead.gif

You are running high end card with low grade power supply. Recommended to go at least 550W for low grade power supply. Aerocool Strike-X is Tier 4 power supply and made by Andyson.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-18047...-tier-list.html

Would recommend replacing it better power supply. Seasonic, Corsair, Antec and Coolermaster (only V series) will be the ones you are looking for.

As for the rig, 2014 games minimum recommended is Core i5. If you can go Xeon or i7, it's better.

Because the lowest tier for Corsair is Tier 3 and lowest for Seasonic is Tier 2. They are from top quality to mid grade. They don't sell low grade power supplies. Also, Coolermaster stepped up their game as well. Their V series is good.

Quality also comes with a price.

If you're just gonna use your rig mostly for gaming and not for content creation, getting an i5 would be sufficient for your usage. Most games don't utilise more than 2 threads on your CPU, when the i5 already has 4 and the i7 has 8.

If you're really making a budget GAMING rig, get the Intel G3258 and overclock the s**t out of that chip. On a gaming level it loses out slightly to the i7 4790k (also overclocked). (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evXpqpNhu_Y)

Use the money you saved for a BEAST graphic card, THAT will improve your gaming experience by a LOT more.

Lastly, don't cheap out on power supplies. Get a good quality brand and give a 100W or 200W headroom. Meaning get a 600W PSU even if your system only needs 500W. If possible try to get 80Plus Gold rating and above ones to be sure you're getting steady power delivery.

All the best in your rig!

thanks for all the tips. thumbup.gif its very helpful. biggrin.gif
I saw the G3258, surprisingly price is much more cheaper than i5 and i7.

I'll get recommended seasonic or corsair. Thanks. rclxms.gif

Guess I'm getting a normal i5 and a better GPU. just thinking going for Radeon or Nvidia.
It seem in same range of specs, Nvidia price is higher than Radeon? >w<

Personally, I'm quite the nVidia fanboy and don't read up much on AMD cards. tongue.gif

But from what I read the performance boost from R7 260X to R9 270 is quite massive and the price jump is about RM300.
From the nVidia side, the GTX 750Ti underperforms both cards and the GTX 760 is VERY expensive for the performance.

So I would suggest getting the R7 260X, the R7 265 or the R9 270, whichever fits your budget better. smile.gif

Yes, agree n see price is way exp for nvidia for same range of product specs. But some comment nvidia have better drive update and game optimazation. Aiks dilemma. Haha

Hm after experiencing both AMD and nvidia cards, i'll say that my amd cards ran hotter and overclocked much worse than my nvidias did.Not to mention the power consumption, but eh performance wise is still decent apart from the heat output and the ocing.

All depends on brand and the cooler. AMD reference cooler isn't good except R9 295X2. Nvidia also have some bad generations as well. GTX470 and GTX480 are the examples.

Switch that overpriced Refurbished Model PSU to Coolermaster V 650W Semi-modular. It is significantly cheaper for same tier PSU. You can use that extra budget for Samsung 21.5" if you want 1080p.

From Swisspac, a pc shop nearby my area.
Around Pacific PC depot there.
I can see the overall prices slightly higher than PCdepot.

FYI Mr Choo communication skills not so good, (gives me high blood pressure and stress) but their custom built rig and warranty are awesome!

rclxms.gif

saw your suggestion on GPU, from R9 280(mine) to R9 270X ? R9 270X to be sufficient? haha
I also thinking of change R9 280 to R9 270 (reduce roughly RM150) to put on monitor.

I actually saw this customize rig in ideal tech.

CPU: Intel Core I5 4460
MOBO: ASUS B85M-G

ODD: ASUS 24x Sata DVDRW

Assassin' Creed Unity recommended system requirements is i7 3770

BTW i5 is not sufficient for games title from 2014 above. I had bad experience with i5 3570K even OC where is not sufficient for new titles games especially multiplayer mode.  shakehead.gif

Proves nothing unless there is real benchmark.

A lot of "minimum requirement" for cpu is BS. All you need is to slap on a great GPU. Everytyhing smooth as butter.

Multiplayer shifts the requirements to CPU. Page 1 already got one of the example. DA:I will not work if the CPU isn't quad core too.

Games requiring more CPU is increasing. Bare in mind PS3, PS4 and Xbox One has 8-core CPU. Developers will try to minimize development costs porting the game to PC.

But yeah, some of the minimum requirement is misleading. Like they put much slower AMD vs i5.

FarCry 4 - bad coding...all the process running in the 3rd core...dunno what the programmers thinking. LOL

DA:I - not too sure, could be bad coding problems..anyway...too farking expensive on Origin and not available on Steam. I will pass. Hates Origin. Maybe get kapitan sparrow version to try out. Don't want to support Origin!!!

Anyway the argument that i5 not sufficient...

I find it BS. i7 also quad cores only, but with HT. So far all benchmarks has shown minimal improvement from going from i5 to i7. And even if games is slowly moving to quad-core as standard, it will take years to become mainstream. Consoles may have a lot of cores, but bear in mind, consoles CPU cores are much simpler and weaker and not as complex as an Intel CPU cores.

basically, one or two games with dodgy coding does not make it mainstream. No point buying an i7 now to be "ready" for the future. When the future is here, then you pay mainstream price to get an i5 with 8 cores or whatever. Not premium price NOW in expecting something that is NOT happening yet.
