Hey guys, I have already assembled myself a Core 2 Duo rig and it has been ready since last August. But too bad due to my busy working schedule and too much enjoying my rig, I can't manage to post it earlier. Now, I finally manage to post my pics here plus benchies.

I don't favour to OC my stuff now as I can already play all my existing games at a very playable frame rate (60 plus FPS anyone?). So here goes my specs:

Processor: Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHZ + Stock Cooler
Monitor: CMV 743A (17 inch, 8ms, black)
Casing: Cooler Master Centurion 5 (Black)
Optical Drive: LG DVD Burner 16X
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
RAM: Patriot 2 X 1GB DDR2 667 MHZ Dual Channel Kits
Graphics Card: MSI 7900GT 256MB fitted with Thermalright KV1 Ultra (450/1320)
Hard Disk: Seagate 320GB SATA II 16MB Buffer
PSU: Enermax FMA 535W
Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Extrememusic
Speakers: Logitech Z-5300 5.1
Keyboard: Logitech Multimedia Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech G-5 Laser Mouse

Here are the benchmarks I manage to crank out. Too bad I don't have some of the software to duke it out since time is not something I have a lot... But anyway, here goes:

Sisoft Sandra Lite 2007 results:

I wanted to test more games like ES4: Oblivion, Quake 4, etc....but I do not really have much time! I think the benchmarks (not really a benchmark cuz no comparison, but well...) are quite sufficient to show how this rig performs. Any comments are welcomed! I'm so happy with my current rig now!

Checked my 3DMark program already, don't know why the software does not allow me to run benchmark for HDR/SM3.0 tests. That's why I can't obtain the full score.

Depends your needs. I game usually for FPS and strategy games, don't need a big-azz monitor.

Rather invest for a HDTV big size ones, but my room too small to put them..until I get a house myself la ya haha..

yeah can't test the HDR+SM3.0, no idea why since my card can support it. I think I better test it on 3DMark05 and 03 (Don't know where to find, no torrents, nothing, and not much time!)

Well, not looking to beat anyone's scores, performs well currently, only OC when I need to. I find more satisfaction in playing games and productivity software smoothly rather than beating other PC's scores. :-)

why dont u OC abit ur CPU n GC, as long as dont increase d voltage, i think its quite safe to run it 24/7. Stock HSF for ur E6600 should be suffice if u dont plan to kow2 OC it. Mine running 305 x 9 with default voltage 24/7 n using stock HSF aso...max temp when full load aso still low, around 60C. at least w the OC u can get higher FRPs in gaming.

I think the price will be fix till end of the year.Maybe the price will drop a little bit but the chances is a bit low.Wait until the next proc comes out then there will be price adjustment on the conroe core.

If it's the regular P5B..then skip it. It's already discontinued. Wait for the P5B-E to arrive. It should retail about the same price as the old vanila version.

In around November or so, there'll be a new revision for the 965 chipset (C2) and so far it seems that 500+...to even 600 is achievable.

E6300 --> Cheapest possible so that's the value
E6400 --> The 8x multiplier is pretty useful since average 3.2Ghz is not an issue paired with DDR2 800's... 8x400...no problem...no sweat
E6600 --> Entry level 4MB...basically the price premium is for the extra cache/performance.
E6700 --> Tarak paham why need E6700 since the E6600's 9x is more than enough to run 1:1... 9x400 --> 3.6Ghz
X6800 --> Unlocked multi's so there's the value there.

Stick to those ram sticks or chips that's listed on Asus QVL and you shouldn't have a problem.

For PSU, only get those with true power ones, this will surely help lots in OC.

For casing, it's up to your personal preference and taste, usually enthusiasts will go for Lian Li casings. Thermaltake and Coolermaster are good too, you might have to take them into consideration.

OC is very easy only la, just change a few bios settings and save it. If unstable try to change other settings, once it's tested stable it will quite likely remain stable forever unless u are overheating sweat.gif

Aftermarket heatsink is 3rd party heatsink u can buy at most computer shops. Normally u get one when u buy a cpu provided by manufacturer ie. intel/amd.

Unfortunately those are not adequate for o/c purposes. Recomend u get Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX as it wont interfere with ds3 backplating. cost about RM 190 from Compuzone or RM 178 from Modernopc.com

Northbridge = Wiki Northbridge
The higher the fsb=the hotter it gets.

Recomend u get Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II. RM 89 @ Compuzone.

Also mebbe u shud wait 1 month b4 u get Gigabyte DS3 cuz manufacturer releasing Revision 2 adding C2Q support.

You wanna buy next year? Always follow market trend. There are quad cores coming.

Regardless of what/how you and other ppl say, you better follow the market trend to buy stuff. 1 year after this year brings a lot of changes.

Sorry for late reply. Was very busy with my work nowadays..

It'll begin shipping in mid-november. Guess the price of C2D won't be reduced as quad-core is aimed at different market segment, which is the enthusiasts'. C2D will remain as the mainstream line of products.

I agree wif the above, so called 'quad-core' is basically 2 C2D bridged into one quad core proc.........dude, jz like putting 2 engines into a car........zzz

if u ask me, not wat ppl call 'new technology breakthrough'

btw, my comments shouldnt b read by any pros here though........coz i learnt from them hehe

1GB Corsair PC5300 DDR 667 DDR 2 CL5 Value Ram RM440(dun waste time getting this, jz look for any KVR DDII 533 for lesser price)
Western Digital Caviar 160GB SATA II RM215
Galaxy 7900GS 512MB DDR3 RM730
CRT samsung monitor 19'' RM300

Suggestions:

look on the bright side, E6600 got double the cache (4Mb), plus if u run E63/E64 at 3.5Ghz the temp would b higher than E66

Checked my 3DMark program already, don't know why the software does not allow me to run benchmark for HDR/SM3.0 tests. That's why I can't obtain the full score.

i think u might wanna select all the 3d games test ?
that way u should get your full 3dmark score.

Well I do not know you guys, but I personally think that more GHZ does not really mean more fun.

I mean, come to think of it...do you really notice the difference between a 2.4 GHZ E6600 (for example), compared to an OC version of 2.7, 3.0, 3.5? Yeah maybe you get better results for Superpi, but I am talking about noticeable difference in real world applications.

If you are talking graphics wise, processors are the first to reach its bottlenecks, it is actually your GRAPHIC CARDS that will push your gaming experience further.

Processor speeds help most for people who do heavy video editings, compiling/decompiling things for programmers, etc...there are also those who are hardcore overclocking enthusiasts who just want to see pure OC results, but then again it's a different topic.

For most of us who are just casual computer users with some tastes in gaming, an adequate processor + good graphics card mostly already helps. Then comes a question why would I want an E6600 and a 7900GT when I can already use AMD chips with a decent card. Well, it's a good timing for me to buy a new PC already...so I choose things based on my budget.

Just want to voice out my opinions to those who are still thinking what to buy and when. There is NEVER a right time to buy things, it's the budget you have, and your desire/need to get it just when the time is right (based on your judgement).

I don't understand how quad-core will be useful for us. Reason is my understanding on WindowsXP is it only support 2 processor max. To support 4 processor you need Windows 2003 server.

Also, E6300 or E6400 would be a good buy as you can o/c min 3Ghz easily on stock heatsink. I had a DS3 and E6400 and able to hit 3Ghz on my first run. Ram I'm using using Mushkin value ram, 2Gb, each stick costing me RM 395. I believed the performance of the CPU should be able to last us at least 2 more years before the next upgrade cycle. My buying cycle is very simple, everytime if there is a good overclockable CPU, I'll do the upgrade as you get the highest performance CPU at half the cost.

As Vista matures and games such as Crysis and Alan Wake supporting multi-core CPUs are released, dual core will become the norm and that's when you'll see quad-core become more feasible.

To: Joseph...

Since you did mention that without overclocking, you're pretty happy. Before I go on, do you plan to play games like Oblivion or just wanna bench it?

I know I am not happy yet with my rig even when overclocked; I still wanna go for SLI.

Hey bro,

I'm kind of a selective person when comes to games. Believe it or not, I don't play Oblivion, cuz I simply really have no time! I'm kind of a pick-up-and-play gamer.

I already shifted to a new Shuttle casing, you can click my signature to see how my new rig looks like.

Wow, you are still not satisfied?? To you, overclocking is like a sport. To me, I will only do it when it is necessary, I'm satisfied with the speed of applications/games now.

Yeah I'm looking forward to lots of games!

Crysis- Will it look so different between DX9 or 10?

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

HL2: Episode 2

Hellgate: London

More time for me!
