You wanna buy next year? Always follow market trend. There are quad cores coming.

Regardless of what/how you and other ppl say, you better follow the market trend to buy stuff. 1 year after this year brings a lot of changes.

Sorry for late reply. Was very busy with my work nowadays..

It'll begin shipping in mid-november. Guess the price of C2D won't be reduced as quad-core is aimed at different market segment, which is the enthusiasts'. C2D will remain as the mainstream line of products.

I agree wif the above, so called 'quad-core' is basically 2 C2D bridged into one quad core proc.........dude, jz like putting 2 engines into a car........zzz

if u ask me, not wat ppl call 'new technology breakthrough'

btw, my comments shouldnt b read by any pros here though........coz i learnt from them hehe

for me, i think u can save alot if u choose E6300 or E6400

INTEL CORE 2 DUO 2.13 GHZ E6300/E6400 <RM600/<RM700? (chk the bulk orders got a fella selling cheap)
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 i965P CoreDuo RM530 (spend lil time survey in LYP u can get lower than this)
1GB Corsair PC5300 DDR 667 DDR 2 CL5 Value Ram RM440(dun waste time getting this, jz look for any KVR DDII 533 for lesser price)
Western Digital Caviar 160GB SATA II RM215

CRT samsung monitor 19'' RM300

look on the bright side, E6600 got double the cache (4Mb), plus if u run E63/E64 at 3.5Ghz the temp would b higher than E66

Checked my 3DMark program already, don't know why the software does not allow me to run benchmark for HDR/SM3.0 tests. That's why I can't obtain the full score.

i think u might wanna select all the 3d games test ?
that way u should get your full 3dmark score.

Well I do not know you guys, but I personally think that more GHZ does not really mean more fun.

I mean, come to think of it...do you really notice the difference between a 2.4 GHZ E6600 (for example), compared to an OC version of 2.7, 3.0, 3.5? Yeah maybe you get better results for Superpi, but I am talking about noticeable difference in real world applications.

If you are talking graphics wise, processors are the first to reach its bottlenecks, it is actually your GRAPHIC CARDS that will push your gaming experience further.

Processor speeds help most for people who do heavy video editings, compiling/decompiling things for programmers, etc...there are also those who are hardcore overclocking enthusiasts who just want to see pure OC results, but then again it's a different topic.

For most of us who are just casual computer users with some tastes in gaming, an adequate processor + good graphics card mostly already helps. Then comes a question why would I want an E6600 and a 7900GT when I can already use AMD chips with a decent card. Well, it's a good timing for me to buy a new PC already...so I choose things based on my budget.

Just want to voice out my opinions to those who are still thinking what to buy and when. There is NEVER a right time to buy things, it's the budget you have, and your desire/need to get it just when the time is right (based on your judgement).

I don't understand how quad-core will be useful for us. Reason is my understanding on WindowsXP is it only support 2 processor max. To support 4 processor you need Windows 2003 server.

Also, E6300 or E6400 would be a good buy as you can o/c min 3Ghz easily on stock heatsink. I had a DS3 and E6400 and able to hit 3Ghz on my first run. Ram I'm using using Mushkin value ram, 2Gb, each stick costing me RM 395. I believed the performance of the CPU should be able to last us at least 2 more years before the next upgrade cycle. My buying cycle is very simple, everytime if there is a good overclockable CPU, I'll do the upgrade as you get the highest performance CPU at half the cost.

As Vista matures and games such as Crysis and Alan Wake supporting multi-core CPUs are released, dual core will become the norm and that's when you'll see quad-core become more feasible.

To: Joseph...

Since you did mention that without overclocking, you're pretty happy. Before I go on, do you plan to play games like Oblivion or just wanna bench it?

I know I am not happy yet with my rig even when overclocked; I still wanna go for SLI.

Hey bro,

I'm kind of a selective person when comes to games. Believe it or not, I don't play Oblivion, cuz I simply really have no time! I'm kind of a pick-up-and-play gamer.

I already shifted to a new Shuttle casing, you can click my signature to see how my new rig looks like.

Wow, you are still not satisfied?? To you, overclocking is like a sport. To me, I will only do it when it is necessary, I'm satisfied with the speed of applications/games now.
