Anyone using Zackstrade here? I can hardly find anything much about them.

https://www.zackstrade.com/commissions-fees/

Looks pretty good for buy and hold long term (10 years). Thinking about buying Vanguard ETFs (VTI+VXUS) from them instead of CIMB iTrade due to lower overall cost (including wire fees). Probably going to buy once a year for 10 years of around USD 10k each time.

Zackstrade is OK if you are only interested in the US market. It is a white label of IB. If you want to trade in other markets like Europe, HK and Japan, I would recommend Captrader (also a white label of IB) which has lower commissions for non-US markets.

I found Zackstrade thanks to you! Looks like it fits what I need. biggrin.gif

ZacksTrade which uses IB doesn't charge for incoming funds. The only fees you will be charged will be the outgoing wire fee from your bank.

If using IB, using Instarem to fund your IB account will only incur Instarem fee plus forex loss.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I confirm instarem > transferwise is successful. Is whether from transferwise into the broker account is successful or not, don't know.

Ramjade, may I know what currency did you transfer to assuming that you used MYR to pay?

@ramjade thanks to your sharing, i have managed to transfer MYR to USD at TransferWise via Instarem with a loss of 0.275% (instarem fee plus forex loss). apparently, the cost of transferring my USD from TW to IB (US account) is USD1 fixed via wire transfer but it is slow; my first ever transfer will take one week. i will then be converting my USD to Euro via IB to purchase some VWRL ETF.

Krv23490, have you considered VWRL, Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF which has much bigger and diverse portfolio and ireland-domiciled? may i know why you chose to buy at HKEX?

For my learning, why convert RM to US and then to Euro? Why not RM to Euro straight?

They don't accept RM? Has to be in US?

Surprised to learn some months ago that when you use credit card overseas, say you buy A in France, the card will charge the Euro X in US Y and later convert that US Y to RM Z.

Crazy system. One way to globally increase the demand for US $! Should do without that artificial demand for US$.

Thanks.
*
Instarem doesn't allow me to send Euro using MYR at the moment else I would have skip USD and save the conversion loss. Instarem also doesn't allow me to send directly to IB so I need TW. I am one of the unfortunate ones to have to earn my salary in MYR...

if anyone has cheaper method of transferring Euro to IB from MYR, i am all ears...

TW also gives EUR borderless account that you can deposit. In this way, you don't have to convert twice.
You can fund your IB account in EUR from your TW borderless account. Just remember to leave the account number blank when you fill up the IB deposit form.
*
TW charges 0.63% if i convert my usd to euro then transfer to IB. converting at usb to euro at IB is cheaper and fixed cost. correct me if i'm wrong.

my deposits path is as follows:

MYR -> USD via Instarem -> TW

TW -> USD to IB -> IB converts USD to Euro

this is the most cost optimised path that i can figure out. please correct me if i'm wrong.

Thats a good question! Because i just signed up for FSMone. HKEX seems to be the cheapest !

Which broker would you recommend?
*
would you mind sharing your cost on purchasing etf via HKEX using fsmone? i did not know FSM Singapore sells Vanguard ETFs as FSM Malaysia doesn't if i'm not mistaken.

my total cost per annum when i buy Vanguard ETF VWRL ireland-domiciled is around 0.80% pa. this cost includes trading cost (purchase twice a year plus forex losses and fees MYR->Euro), tax witholding and fund expense. i am using captrader which uses IB as its backend fyi.

Have you considered this path?

MYR -> EUR via Instarem -> TW

TW -> EUR to IB  [no conversion, just a small fee (<  €1) for withdrawal ]
*
instarem doesn't support MYR to Euro at the moment else it would be perfect.

i'd like to contribute my share to this awesome topic that i have successfully transferred funds from MYR to USD to Euro to IB's account in Germany via Instarem->TransferWise.

i tried transferring my USD in TW to IB's US account but failed due to TW not accepting Further Credit Payments https://transferwise.com/help/article/20768...credit-payments.

hope this helps others

cheers

Ya, i think that so....to accumulate via iTrade first.....then, only open IB or other overseas Platform...I will buy and hold only as i am not good in analysis...and so...i plan to do fund accumulation......recently buying REITS in Malaysia....
*
iTrade isn't cheap, each trade USD 25 if i'm not mistaken not including forex loss from MYR->USD (please share here what is the USD/MYR rate in iTrade compared to the rate in midmarket/xe.com). plus additional 30% withholding tax. if you're keeping for long term (5-10yrs), best to use Ireland-domicled ETFs and buy via IB through captrader.

TW sent ACH wire from Wells Fargo bank, according to their CS.
Tried a few times to deposit USD into IB's account with Citibank but unfortunately all transfers bounced back. Seems like this way is not workable.
*
I found another way which might help you.

Instarem MYR->SGD transfer to IB's account in SG.

Convert SGD-> Euro in IB. DONE

Cheers

ya, i knew it about the higher charges and higher with-holding tax on dividend if trade via iTrade

however, based on my income, i am only be able to top up the fund maybe once or max twice per year.....in order for me to be safe from the inactive charges which will be charged on monthly basis....i need to have at least USD100,000 in the IB account.....that's still a big distance for me......one off charge of USD25 will be more practical and worthy for my current condition.....

for currency gain or loss, regardless which methods I use (either via iTrade or IB (or other equivalent)), i can't escape from it.....

not sure if i overlooked in any other aspect.....very new in investment....hope sifu can correct me if i am wrong...

thanks
*
CapTrader/ZackTrades doesn't charge you inactive charges if you have at least EUR 2k or USD 2k respectively if I'm not mistaken, go check their websites. They're both using IB as their backend.

Cheers

yeah considered but.. i'm linking stock options to US-listed ETFs & stocks to juice the returns when held (selling CALLs at worthwhile returns VS (dividends pa -30%, inclusive round-trip cost)
OR
getting some returns when hunting for purchase price i want (selling PUTs at prices i want to buy)

have yet to dig deeper on how to do equivalent with Irish ETFs +have to open new platform (TDA SG dont play that)  bangwall.gif
yup, minimum cost per trade = USD25 but as U do larger sized orders, it goes down to about 0.42% - around USD5955K value order the last i used them, eg. USD$59.55 stock *100units

as for Forex, if U guys can look up the historical rate online, U can VS. the data i have:
27/08/2015 4.257500
thus, my CVX USD4864.41 was settled with MYR20,710.24

hope the above helps
*
Mid-market price on that date: 4.193500
https://www.x-rates.com/historical/?from=US...date=2015-08-27

Forex loss is 1.53% which can be considered as total cost per trade plus USD 25.

The rate is quite comparable if you were to use CapTrader and trade Ireland-domiciled ETF. Mine equated to around that figure too in total with all the conversion MYR->SGD->EUR . Though in long term, you will have less returns due to 30% WTH tax.

Thanks for willing to share your info.

Thanks but I don't really need this, already have bank accounts oversea. Just sharing experience, hopefully it will be beneficial.

Does Instarem send SGD in the name of its customers? If not, the transfer will bounce back. I can see that ACH wires sent by TW are in the name of its customers but still not acceptable to IB.
*
I believe so but not sure though mine went through without fail a few times.

TW doesn't support the ACH transfer that IB's account in US required: for further credit.
