I went to Maybank to transfer a mere 10k usd into the IB account and the bank officer said i needed a BNM approval to trade US equities. Need some advice on this issue. How did you all do it? Can try other branch, some branch are more kiasi/lazier than other. It used to be just sign a declaration form, now need to get personal approval from bnm? 10k may be they can still count so need approval if 2.6 billion probably they will lost count and u will be exempted.

QUOTE(yosia_k @ Jan 12 2018, 03:06 PM) Thank you for your answer, but i have another one Currently i am in the process of opening account, the last step is to fund the account. In this state, my account is still not yet active and under review. I have a concern: 1. If i deposit the money and my account is funded, what if my account still not yet active, my money will hanging there? 2. Is there a case that my account is funded but after review, my application is rejected? Will i be able to withdrawn the money? Sorry for the noob question, first time opening broker account why not only fund after your account approved then you no need to worry about the above?

QUOTE(hyperzz @ Sep 11 2018, 05:38 AM) If you ever wonder how free brokerages (i.e. 8 Securities, Robinhood, etc) earn their profit, you should read the book Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt. Another famous book by the same author is The Big Short. While I am not totally against free brokerage, you should know what happens behind the scene. Basically, a free lunch is not really free. pardon me, after reading your link I still don't understand what the threats are, mind sharing?

QUOTE(hyperzz @ Sep 13 2018, 03:11 AM) It is highly suspected that free brokerages engage in front-running their customers to earn their profit. This article explains the concept of front-running very well: How Traders Use Front-Running to Profit From Client OrdersNowadays, front-running is made easier with the help of High Frequency Trading (HFT), dark pools, etc. Here are more articles to help you understand these financial stuff: RobinHood 1 : A very long article. Read from paragraph 8 onwards. "Robinhood answers this exact question on their website, ..." RobinHood 2If you the buy-and-hold type, free brokerages might still work for you. However, if you are a frequent trader, please investigate more on your own. thank you for the pointers. But for ikan bilis trader like me i doubt would be affected much by front running (when my order to buy and sell stock execute at the price i ask or bid) except sacrify privacy if they share their API. Just like we use google for free but they use our activities to show us advertisement. Just be mindful that if privacy is a concern then can use other paid brokers.

QUOTE(Sumofwhich @ Apr 14 2020, 06:01 PM) TDAmeritrade SG is shit, can't transfer via Instarem or even ACH from US Banks, can only accept wire transfers with bad exchg rates and wire fees from Msian banks. I wonder if Transferwise works, it needs to be funded from an account where you're the owner of the account you initiate the transfer from now tdameritrade sg support is shit true to that, used to be better, not sure because they were bought over by charles schwab then don't bother about services just wait for take over and walk away. Their US support counterpart is way much better. True that even ach transfer from US banks also TD not accept i wonder why? interactive broker ok with ach. And also their sg deposit only accept from dbs online but not other sg banks wtf. their funding method need much improvement. This post has been edited by apathen: Apr 14 2020, 06:16 PM

QUOTE(tvz32 @ May 2 2020, 09:53 AM) Dear sifus, I recently stumbled upon this thread while searching for options to invest in US stocks and ETFs. Started reading the posts in 2017 before jumping to the more recent posts. The older posts recommended 8 securities which is based in HK. When i visit their website, it looks like they have been acquired/rebranded as SoFi. Fees structure looks attractive. Anybody has any experience with them? what you want to know?
