would it be counter productive if i buy the same stock that is in an ETF

lets say I buy tesla and ARKK at the same time, would it be counter productive?
*
nope it means you are creating a "custom etf" for youself.

e.g., you put $100 into tesla, $100 into ARKK, you'll be exposing yourself to *55.245% of tesla

*50% + (10.49% / 2)
10.49% is current weightage of tesla in ARKK now https://ark-funds.com/arkk

  • Wise USD ACH into IBKR
  • convert into SGD bank account and DuitNow (in singapore it's FAST transfer) to IBKR

Wise charges 0.65% for MYR->USD, and 0.7% for MYR -> SGD. using wise to convert to SGD will always be more expensive

the reason why MYR->SGD->USD is cheaper is because we are using
  • Money Match
  • DuitNow to MBB sg (limited to RM3k daily)
  • bigpay
  • sunway money
so so our MYR->SGD rates are 0.3-0.4%

if u really need to change during after hours, I heard bigpay's rate is more competitive. been wanting to find out but no time
QUOTE(Medufsaid @ Nov 21 2023, 04:29 PM)
yea when i have time, i'll compare bigpay at night

however, transferring at night is not something i want to do as the real exchange rates only start to appear during local malaysian trading times. notice the big gap during our working hours

if i buy a variety of etf, than selective few. when it comes to dividend, will i get deducted more as each etf will needs to deduct those cost? so i should just end up buying a few than many, right?

don't quite understand.

If you use $1000 to buy one ETF, let's say you get taxed $30. If you buy 10 ETF with $100 each, you get taxed $3 ten times.

The amt you get taxed is the same

VT annual dividend 1.55%. assuming ISAC 100% replicates VT, you only save 0.2325% annually

user posted image

so now u find out if FSM transaction fees + 0.2325% additional WHT is cheaper than SA 0.3% annual fees
QUOTE(jutamind @ May 7 2024, 11:00 AM)
I know SA has a 0.2% fee

jutamind stashaway. FSM fees is RM1 + RM1 Malaysian stamp duty. That's already 1%-2% of your RM100-200

HumbleBF buying $SPYL via Swiss EBS exchange manually is USD4. So I have reasons to believe the USD1.70 IBKR charges for EBS via recurring investment is wrong (similar to how they charged U$0.35 for LSE etfs in recurring investment last year)

togekiss sound like you are using Wise to transfer to IBKR right? RM500 is expensive bcos Wise charges USD1.13 for each USD transfer

luckily you can convert from MYR to SGD inside Wise, and send to IBKR for free. while you slowly open an sg bank acct for withdrawals
