Hi, I've been calculating and I'm wondering if I missed anything.

The word around is: MYR > SGD > SGD (IBKR)
Then subsequently within ibkr : SGD (IBKR) > USD (IBKR)

However, by using MYR 10k and wise for reference, I'm getting otherwise.

MYR 10k = USD 2119.81
MYR 10k = SGD 2840.69

Now,i kind of sure there's a USD 2 fee converting within ibkr, but let's ignore that for now for clarification. Also, using Google SGD/USD rates for reference.

So, within ibkr:
SGD 2840.69 = USD 2118.08

Which is still slightly lesser than directly using wise for MYR/USD (ibkr).

What did I miss?

I think you are doing this computation after the onshore MYR FX market is close. The AOO's quotes aftermarket are very inaccurate.

Try to redo the same calculation after 9 am tomorrow when the onshore ringgit FX market is alive again.

IBKR SGD -> USD is spot rate. Real time market rate. Google/xe not accurate.

You can even select at what rate you want to convert if you are willing to wait for better rate. Put a GTC order via TWS.
You can't get that with wise.

Wise charges 0.65% for MYR->USD, and 0.7% for MYR -> SGD. using wise to convert to SGD will always be more expensive
https://wise.com/my/pricing/hold-fees?sourc...R&targetCcy=USD https://wise.com/my/pricing/hold-fees?sourc...R&targetCcy=SGD
user posted image user posted image

the reason why MYR->SGD->USD is cheaper is because we are using
  • Money Match
  • DuitNow to MBB sg (limited to RM3k daily)
  • bigpay
  • sunway money
so so our MYR->SGD rates are 0.3-0.4%

Oh wow, you guys were absolutely right. From checking during the market hours, to MYR>SGD>USD and Moneymatch.

I swear I've previously compared Moneymatch and I've gotten worse rates than wise, so I didn't think much about it after. Also, I'm guessing my mistake of checking after market hours was another contributing factor.

Okay, I guess I need to recheck what I thought I know again. Thanks for sharing. icon_rolleyes.gif

if u really need to change during after hours, I heard bigpay's rate is more competitive. been wanting to find out but no time
QUOTE(Medufsaid @ Nov 21 2023, 04:29 PM)
yea when i have time, i'll compare bigpay at night

however, transferring at night is not something i want to do as the real exchange rates only start to appear during local malaysian trading times. notice the big gap during our working hours

Another thought..I remember I've read something like that but I can't be sure as I'm not able to locate the source..

Say I have enough SGD in ibkr, cash account, then place a buy order in USD.. Does ibkr have the function of automatically converting the necessary amount from my SGD to USD for that order?

Yes, if you do an RSP purchase.

The source of info is from IBKR thread: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=108549577

I know there are many ETFs for semicon OR internet individually but is there any ETF that combine both semicon AND internet sectors into a single ETF?

Just asking.. Semicon performed well this year, do you think it will continue in the long term?

Nothing is guaranteed. Long term wise, I think the trend of the future is digitalization, IoT, AI etc which gels well with semicon and internet theme

Long term yes. Short term don't know. It's overvalued. AI is the new bubble.

Hi would like to ask between QQQ vs QQQM which is better if my intention is to invest and hold
for like 20-30 years?
I did some research and below are the findings:

Pros of QQQM:
-lower expense ratio at 0.15 compared to 0.20 for QQQ
-comparable performance to QQQ
-tracks almost similarly to QQQ(negligible differences)

Cons of QQQM:
-introduced in year 2022 which means still quite new with less volume and higher spread cost.
-it might be merged with QQQ or terminated in future
-unsure of future performance

If i am not planning to do options /trading should I go with QQQM? Since it is quite new
But would the future performance be a concern since both ETFs tracks similar holdings?
