I guess your account does not have permission to trade in HK.

See the Account Settings in Client Portal/Account management:

As mentioned in post #1030, you will see IB's SG account number after you login to account management and initiate a deposit notification.
IB might have different account number for different white labels.

By comparing the deposit instruction of Captrader and my broker, Zackstrade (another IB white label), I notice that Captrader is affiliated IB UK while Zackstrade is affiliated with IB US.
All the deposit accounts are with Citibank in different regions. But the name/address registered to the Citibank account can be IB UK or IB US.
I think this does not make any difference.

Thank you for your guidance. I have managed to transfer to Captrader via FAST just now. It's free indeed thumbsup.gif

Guys, got few question about rights/preferential offering for IB. If a company is doing rights/preferential offering,
1) how to I subscribe?
2) How do I applied for excess?
3) Do I need to do anything in IB to convert the rights/preferential offering to mother share or it will get auto converted?

Thank you.

If you already own shares in a company that entitle you to special offering by this particular company, you will receive an email from IB on how to participate in the corporate action.

For example, I once owned shares in Delta LLoyd NV (a Dutch insurance company already acquired by a bigger rival) that offered new shares at a significant discount to raise capital.
The following email was sent by ZS/IB with instruction on how to subscribe to those new shares.

Attached Image

The instruction given in the email is no longer valid as the Account Management interface has been updated.
If you select 'Support' in your Account Management, you will see 'CORPORATE ACTION MANAGER'.
With every corporate action, a default action will be defined which will be taken if you do nothing until the election period expires.

I tested withdrawal from IB recently. For all the options below, no fee was charged by the receiving bank but the transfer itself can be very slow, except EUR/SEPA.

1) SGD to SG bank account via GIRO/ACH.
The fund was credited to my account 3 days later (T + 3).

2) HKD to HK bank account via GIRO/ACH.
The fund was credited to my account 3 days later (T + 3).

3) GBP to TransferWise GBP account via BACS.
The fund was credited to my account 2 days later (T + 2).

4) EUR to TransferWise EUR account via SEPA.
The fund was credited to my account on the same day the withdrawal was submitted (T + 0).

In UK you can use WIRE rather than BACS - this usually arrives within an hour.

Same with EUR too, can arrive within an hour too

TransferWise borderless account does not support WIRE, unless I am wrong.

Ah sorry - I was referring to a normal EUR account, not transferwise borderless.

Who do you bank with in HK? I used to use HSBC before but they closed everything down a couple of years ago and seem to have become increasingly difficult to open anything new.

I was referring to accounts I had with HSBC in HK, both personal and company.

There’s quite a few they did this to in around 2016/2017.

Yes, those who has a real UK/EU bank account that comes with an IBAN can receive SWIFT/WIRE transfer.

I just double-checked, TransferWise EUR account actually can receive SWIFT transfer. Good news for those who invest in index fund denominated in EUR.

I bank with Standard Chartered HK.

Did they close both your personal and company accounts? Or closed just the company account let you keep the personal account?

Both! And after the hassle involved I'd prefer to use a different bank. I heard good things about DBS in HK so might give that a try when I'm next there.

Another option is OCBC Wing Hang. Some EU people managed to open company account with this bank on their own, for their HK company.

Actually just looking for personal at the moment - not looking for company account currently.

I’ll probably visit later this year and try a few banks

Good luck with that. For DBS, most likely they will push for nonresident clients to join the DBS Treasure program. Please share your experiences later as bank policy changes with time.
