Check:
1. all port. including USB, HDMI, VGA, headphone and mic..
2. Screen. including dead pixel (can google for online dead pixel check), screen lit/side "hinge" see whether there is any loose part or sticking paste exposed
3. Boot your laptop, see can enter BIOS or not. If you purchased OS version then test your OS.
4. If you got an external DVD drive, bring it along to test the see whether the USB port can detect and run your DVD or not
5. Test the backlit and lightning of the laptop
6. Test power adapter
Most importantly, CHECK IF YOUR LAPTOP IS DAMAGED OR NOT. If there is any doubt, just ask them straight on the spot

All these can be done quickly. For more detailed testing you need to have an OS installed.
Hmmm.. Seems like a hardware issue. Do update us on your fix

can all of the ports and dead pixels can be tested on the portable OS? I mean I boot from USB directly to Windows
