There seriously no benefit. Broadwell is more of IPC enchancement with iGPU.

Its a better upgrade for illegear RU14 Pro.

Skylake.. u can see from aftershock pricing .. SGD330 more when you choose a skylake.
This should include the cost of the motherboard. But ultimately on notebook so far ROG 752 has the right implementation of skylake.. support for NVME m.2 ssd PCIE 4x. If ure not gonna get this.. no point going for a skylake cpu for gaming.

its too early at moment. Definately want USB 3.1/C etc... its a serious mobo change. Also now the VRM will be on the mobo again.

Dunno whether u noticed. There aint many spoilt Haswell Notebook Mobos.

I think illegear stance is correct. Cause if not ure gonna get a half assed mobo with similar connectivity with only difference is skylake. But this seriously gonna make a z5 970m 16gb costing close to 7k.

Broadwell itself other manufactorers are asking for extra.. shudder to think whats z5 gonna cost.

Ram .. Dual channel.. Y ppl recommend to get the same rams same brand etc at that time because its better to have the same ic on the ram binned with the same jdec timings. Bioses on mobos are updated with different ics.
So things get whack sometimes when you pair different ics with same spec. Because the drive by the imc skews are different. Laptop n desktop is the same in this respect. Totally would listen to PrinceJ

Take a wiff n technical support in lyn. U will see alot of ppl having issues after some time with upgrades on ram with same spec but most probably different ics on them. Ics are binned n improve regulary as well to increase yield n reduce cost.

Nvr seen the temps on cpu hit that high.
if ure in a warm area its better to just put the fan at high.

High temps wont kill the cpu or gpu. It can affect other components durability that are prone to heat like vram for the gpu n rams etc..

So do whatever u can dude to lower it. If i have to game in battery mode for a while in less ideal situation.. I would use battery boost in nvidia gfe n let it optimise the game to lower setting to hit that frame rate.

Theres another possibility. All cpu has different vids. Some lower n some higher that corresponds to different voltage hence different temps. Btw i am not sure but guessing u lucked out with a higher vid. Again just guessing here.

Msata increases boot time on os. 256gb barely enough for a gaming install drive. Nowadays need 500gb to 1tb.

Tech 8gb is enough. Since vram is at 3gb n swap reseved n most games are at 4-5. So 8 is borderline. Pagefile is needed for hybrid sleep/hibernate. So its enough. Rams in general with ddr4 coming soon.. Ddr3 prices will go up...

Msata... Sata interface price is dropping since smaller fabs in nand n new tech in stacking. It however faces challenges from pcie based m.2 n the new nvme standard. But those are expensive atm..

So decide base on this dude.

Haswell procs run in different c-states. U can configure in ure windows power config on min n max. Mine is at 0-100. Haswell has a internal vrm hence clock on demand modulation is insane fast so no point having min at 100%.

That being said y u want to have the fan 100% since when ure not gaming gpu is basically in idle/off state with optimus.
Ure using ure igpu at this point.

For worksheet work n surfing etc.. With a i7 4720.. Powersaving mode has enough power to ensure smoothness..

So?????? Y dude u want turbo on all the time?? I enable it based on fps i want which is 60. If i find the game is cpu bound i enable it. Still not enough xtu oc for another two more higher multiplier..

4720hq is tdp limited. Temp is a component on how tdp is measured. So when it hits.. U will throttle down..

To make it easier..Whats the price of new ddr2 2gb stick for laptop?? About 120...u can almost buy a 8gb ddr3...Ram prices depends on production. When theres more its cheaper. In taiwan ram ics are traded like warrants/futures etc..

So msata is just to speed up booting. I nvr shitdown my z5. Its on hibernate. Hibernate stores the last ram state directly into hdd. Technically comp is off.

Unless ure doing alot of project work that move large files etc.. Dont see the benefit..

I am just telling u pros n cons. Ure decision dude.

Theres a pro n cons for both choices but it depends on ure intent.

u need ddr3L.

ddr4 prices are dropping. Guess u notebook ppl dont notice. Its almost to ddr3 level atm with desktop. Quad bins were expensive. Duals are not. Btw if sodimm ddr4 are anything like desktop dual channel.. ure gonna see 16gb sticks... skylake takes 64gb on 4dimm slots.

DDR4 sodimm will reach ddr3 pricing quickly and the change from the market to ddr4 atm all depends on skylake/mobo pricing competitiveness. Intel has low production on skylake which doesnt help on pricing atm.

EOL is one thing and production and pricing is based on demand. DDr4 will ultimately build on a smaller 10nm fabrication. Its cheaper to make.

Btw thats y ssds are getting cheaper. Nand size. Initially they had heat tolerance issues but its solved for the most part now.

U already have 8gb .. the need for 16gb vs ssd. Only you can know.
What i am telling you is if you need 16gb get it from PrinceJ rather than upgrading on ure own... with the reasoning i gave above.

SSD go if u need it. I was running a 512gb Corsair Neutron Xt on mine. Just took it out. Tested with it and cloned exact startup with resume from hibernation vs sshd.. its 9sec vs 15sec in windows 10.

Seriously advice ppl to move over to windows 10. Its really good for notebook. Seems to be more battery efficient.

Benching now 3dmark firestrike in a bit. This time without Xtu overclock on the cpu and just purely in desktop and not in diagnostic mode. Aka as windows default.

Hmm just felt the difference in power between my desktop n 970m..

One piece pirate warrior 3. Desktop. Gpu at 2-3% temp went up by 2c from idle.. Cpu 1c difference. Both at almost 0%.

Notebook gpu 43%.. 53c.. Cpu 55c 10-20%. N for some odd reason but i think ita from the hdmi.. 8% on igpu..

Finally can play MGS. Game before so addictive that i delayed mad max n mgs.

Z5 win 10. I am seeing more fps n higher cpu temps.
Before in 8.1 rare to see cpu temp higher thab gpu. Now among the games i play fps awesome .. 970m temps 70s, cpu 80s. Used to be other wat arnd in win 8.1.

Can more ppl check?? Desktop abit unfair to compare cause of the cooling it has.

Benchmark.. Ignore the min as the benchmark starts off low n then maintains 59-60fps all the way to the end with avg 59.

But again as with project cars.. 60fps .. Min 55...
I am seeing my gpu@70s n cpu @80s.

All done in living room ..ambient about 29c according to my room temp probe that i have arnd the hse..


Btw those who wanted skylake procs.. Check msi pricing n be prepared to be mind blown.. Cheapest with 970m 256gb ssd rm9++k. A freaking 970m.
