Hi,

I build a simple htpc with 7600gt card and AMD3200 64 and a cooler master atcs desktop casing. Casing has a one small fan like normal desktop.

The issue is after awhile it get noisy...very loud fan noise....I am not sure whiteher is the casing fan, gpu or cpu fan...

I want to leave it on 24/7 but it also makes the hall hot.

So any solution for:-

1. Noisy fan
2. Heat.

Some forummers suggest Aqua Gate Mini but I saw the fam its bigger. Will this cause more noise plus make room hotter...?

the thing you talk about the noisy fan is most probably your cpu fan, try replacing an aftermarket cooler (i highly recommend scythe ninja since that is able to run in fanless mode if you dun do any OC or anything)

another thing you can try to do is get those 120mm fans...particularly CM UV Silent fans..since each fan produces bout 20dB...which is very good and generate roughly 45CFM... not to mention its cheap too

the amount of heat being dumped into your hall will remain the same, no matter what cooler youre using. perhaps the water will absorb some of the heat and reduce the total heat output initially

as for noise, well:
1. your AMD stock cooler needs replacement. find something that is quiter.

2. use nvidia's ntune to control the speed of your 7600GT's fan speed at 2D. at 25% it makes no noise whatsoever. this solution is free!

3.casing fans and restriction: if there are fan filters and lots of restrictive things in front of the fan, remove them! dust filters restrict ALOT of airflow and the fans suffocate and create tons of noise. if you can do without dust filters, remove them.

at least now i have some idea on what was noisy.....

i try changing cpu stock fan and also try using cooler master silent fans...

1 more thing you can do is downclock your cpu. This way it will produce less heat.

ianho told me, the bigger the fans are, the more quiet they are...

Go for scythe ninja...

Perhaps UV CM fan...
They are really nice for such a price...

I would say, go for what sidewinderz said,

since the Scythe Ninja Could Run Fanless. Another choice would be ThermalTake Sonic TOwer, i am not sure it needs a fan or not, i think its fanless...

As for the silent fans, i would say Go for the 120mm CM UV , LED FANs.

I am using a few of those currently for my old PC, helps keeps the noise down 24/7 .

i when looking for cpu coolers....but am worry about whether it will fit my desktop casing....

scythi ninja look too tall for my case....saw tt blue orb 2....

do you think this will fit?

will water cooling give better results?

u guys seems to forget that OP uses htpc casing
can snap a pic of the casing with ur mobo all attached (sidepanel off)?
wanna see how much space available for aftermarket cooler

i think xp90 should work fine. i've seen someone run it as passive cooler. anyhow.i think you should conside on case cooling too. cause even with that expensive cooler inside. its not going to cool your component off if you cannot remove the excessive internal case heat off that punny little case.

so how ar...use external water colling device...umm nautilus?...cost a bomb....

does even the casing can fit in a ninja? hehe

some zalman flower would be much better choice

May be u can give Silverstone cooler a try since they r focus on the HTPC case.

I already saw the casing, only a small exhaust fan, so maybe a external Water cooling unit will be practical

Well, XP90, XP120 should work well for you're HTPC...

Don't forget the Silverstone NT03 too since it is design for SG01 case. It shud fix for all kind of SFF case

U can try Thermaltake thunderblade LED 120mm 21dBA 79cfm (RM35) or its 80mm around 33cfm (RM28) also the Arcyan Blackfire series 29dBA and its cfm oso lower a bit of Thunderblade.

XP90 is around 90mm tall... XP120 is around 70+mm tall.... + 25mm for fan = 95mm for XP120..

A typical HTPC is around 100+cm tall.

use water cooling system....
take out ur side panel... put a table fan or box fan to blow... i use to do that on my P.3

This is not a case whereby you add X brand of cooler into it and it'll solve everything.

Pic of the internals will be good as well.

Ah well..since we're still in the topic..

If I were you, I'll chop the rear part above the IO port...marked with red in the pics....then throw in a Lian Li BS-01 blower fan.

Better still, can just run the cpu heatsink fanless by cardboard ducting it to the blower.

That should reduce the noise by quite a bit.

The casing has only 1 exhaust fan, 60mm so looks like gonna need to mod it. Looks like no intake fan also... will be troublesome to have good airflow... *offtopic* and darnit I just saw your thread in Garage sales... nice price
