Roland has its line of Digital Drums too.
If you want a drum machine to create beats, I think you could do that with various softwares like Fruity Loops. |

I think it's better to practice on a real drum set loh, because whilst the digital drums sound good, it feels somewhat unnatural. Otherwise if you have a friend or relative who owns a drumset, you can always practise there.

If you want a totally free Drum Loop, try out Hammerhead Rhythm Station.
If you want a MIDI recorder with a great drum machine, use Reason 3.0 and it's REDRUM Drum machine...... |

I used to play drum but now I kept it in the storeroom because lack of space and it's very noisy. Now messing around with Beatcraft. Very user friendly drum machine. I just made this, check it out.

My brother practices at night on his drum stool. According to him, the feel is closer to the snare than any practice pads he has tried. Downside is you can't practice your footwork. His stool is the only one i have seen with stick marks on it

Bro until you can afford the real thing , try software drum machines , I suggest Acoustica beatcraft ( I have used it super easy and realistic samples) , Or try the well known favorite EzDrummer ( 20gig sample library) , I leave it up to you to get the source
