I think I will choose Z3 after reading all the feedback. It's not so mainstream like iphone or Samsung. I feel amaze with its waterproof function and also its camera. Will write a review on it once I start using.

It's been tested to work with the Spigen Neo Hybrid and the Apple Leather Case, according to his Facebook page. But not tested with the Tough Armour yet.

It'll probably work fine with the Spigen Ultra Hybrid as well, fingers crossed.

No doubt Z3 is better in the sense of waterproof and has storage expansion slot.. waiting for it to come though.

Great phone. But Sony's 6 months refresh cycle means there is a Z4 by Feb or Mar 2015. Of course, that's pretty irrelevant if resale value is not important to you. I have a friend who bought the Z2 weeks before the Z3 launched and hasn't stopped cursing...

Probably I should go for 16GB ip6 then since 1GB will probably be outdated soon.

No point going for the more future proof 64GB storage if the RAM is going to be the bottleneck.

QUOTE(Dinghydoggy @ Oct 24 2014, 03:42 PM)
Even if you go 16GB, that's at least two and a half grand for a phone that will be changed in a year. Ouch.

I'd rather go all out and just hope they don't optimise apps for 2GB too soon as there's too big a user base with older devices until enough years pass.

This coming from an iPhone 4s and iPad Air user. tongue.gif

Probably the RM400 is worth it... Look at the app size these days, even Flickr use >200MB

Just hope Apple continue to support 1GB RAM model. I could have gone for Android but since using iPad mini retina I much prefer iOS  sweat.gif

QUOTE(kahjye @ Oct 24 2014, 03:47 PM)
Yeah , but i guess 1 GB should be good , no? lol.

Look at 4s. 512mb and lags like ueugugudfaj. lel.

well we can look at 4s as our example. lags like fek
oh smile.gif

currently i bumped myself from iphone 5 to note 3. [ note 3 has 3 Gigs of ram yo ]

thikin to get back to ios but what samurai1337 makes me doubting myself haha.

Based on the Latest IPAD AIR 2 which comes with a similar A8X processor and 2GB Ram, it would be VERY certain that the next model of the Iphone which will be the 6S will certainly follow suit with 2GB of RAM. nod.gif

Is this going to be the large generation of iphone with 1GB of RAM, and the new ones coming up with 2GB (and apps are developed to utilize the bigger RAM), making it the iPhone with shortest lifespan? That actually worries me
*
This is a valid concern, but personally I am guessing that the app store approval process would have some policies that state apps must be at least support a few generations back. Personally, I feel they would at least keep every generation usable for at least 3 years.

At the very least, with the lesson I learnt with my iphone 4, the strategy that I am adopting is to never update to the next revision of iOS until I do not hear complaints of slowness. Apps that take advantage of the bigger RAM, tends to require the same iOS version as the same gen iphone that will be released in THAT year. So iOS 9 will be released for the iPhone 6s.

So, apps that are optimized for iOS 9 will likely face slowdown if they run on iOS 8.

iOS 4 - iPhone 4
iOS 5 - iPhone 4s
iOS 6 - iPhone 5

Just take a look at your own experience with your past iPhones. When was the first point that you started feeling some degradation is speed? Is it when the next major OS comes? hmm.gif

My personal experience is things started getting decidedly slower when I jumped from iOS 4 to iOS 5. It wasn't enough to make you hate the phone, but when the phone reaches it's 4th year of service for me, It's whatsapp and spotify slowness that pushed me over.

The solution ? Don't upgrade to the next major iOS ? Really ? hmm.gif hmm.gif But then you start worrying about the security implications. Outdated iOS are more vulnerable. So tech users have to upgrade in fear of their phone systems being exploited. This is the reality. Pick your poison : Vulnerable phone, or just take a slight hit in performance?

Thanks slickz for the good input. That's very helpful indeed

I've never owned iPhone but if history is of any indication, iDevices have longer lifecycle than Android devices. OEMs like Samsung don't seem to spend much efforts in managing the longetivity of their devices, I saw my friend's SGS4 has become incredibly laggy (despite the spec that is still good by today standard) and that's really sad.

The reason I'm raising this concern is that I feel Apple deliberately holding back the 2GB RAM this time round even they can do it without adding much manufacturing cost, and this is slightly disappointing.

iOS is probably more memory efficient than Android but 2GB definitely sounds more future proof considering the demand of the apps these days. Look at the gap below courtesy of BGR

Seems like iPad Air 2 has created quite some gap and makes iPhone 6 look rather "last gen"

Unfortunately, Apple's strategy makes perfect business sense. And business is what drives them to design and innovate in the first place.

People who want value for money should never go Apple - but people who want solid product experiences should. nod.gif

I beg to differ

This is a forum which should embrace different ideas and opinions. I can still make constructive opinions regardless it's apple product or avocado products. Liking Apple products doesn't mean I have to worship them all the time like a fanboy without my own idea

even I end up buying it, I can still openly talk about it's pros and cons and that's the beauty of this forum rolleyes.gif

Well said! laugh.gif

Holy shiat .... dat benchmark..... I heard A8x was fast but I didn't expect it to be THAT fast.

sweat.gif

It's hard to say la these kinds of things, solid experience, value for money are all different ideas to different people. If your current situation is a student from a middle income family, you have different priorities on where you spend your money so cheaper phone = value for money.

So value for money means something else compared to the working class single gentleman who needs a phone with a robust system that can handle multiple whatsapp group conversations discussing on work related issues, while juggling his online relationship with a potential gf. laugh.gif The value you get from a good phone handling complicated tasks can bring different returns, tangible or intangible. rclxms.gif
