the competition sole is made of plastic and is rock hard, literally, hard to even bend it
ok now the real review after using it
for squat, the solid base compared to jogging shoe i used for 2 years gives you very solid feet planted on floor, no wobble, no compressing, very good and nice
i used to be able to do 130kg x2 and PR at 135kgx1, but after changing into this pair of shoe, i did one rep for 130kg and dont have confident to go down for another rep
the raised heel helped you to go further down the squat without stressing much on your knees, i was doing atg squat all the while, but with this shoe it felt more comfortable for my knees, also when you go down on the squat, your knees will unconsciously pushed to the front where your feet are pointing at, instead of pushing out or pushing in or wobbling around.
the problem is, raised heels also forces you to recruit more quads, in the end my squat dropped because my quads couldn't stand it.
for deadlift, also because of the heels, the bar will be further away from your body if you pull mainly with hamstring and back, because your feet is slanted infront.
end up, you have to use quad drive, or should i say more quad drive for the first half part of your deadlift compared to shoes with flat heels or little heels. in the end my deadlift also went from 160x2 to 160 x1
is it worth to invest in this pair of shoes, i'd say, for 130USD discounted price, i think its worth it considering its a nike, the logo adds a couple bucks value to the shoe
at the non discounted price tho, 200USD, its seriously overpriced i think unless you're in the competitive scene
also, this shoe is seriously heavy, beside using for lifting, i dont think you're able to jog in it, i think its around 16lbs or something
the shoe also locks your ankle in place and makes it hard to flex ( again, making it harder to walk and jog in), i think its kind of a protection so that you wont sprained your ankle during heavy weights for olympic lifters who do snatch and clean and jerk ( just my assumption since i do neither)
about sizing, i wear US size 10 for my nike fitsole, but i ordered size 11(purposely ordered one size bigger incase i cannot fit into it) surprisingly, size 11 romaleos fits exactly like my size 10 fitsole jogging shoes, so if any of you guys are getting it, get one size bigger
