the theory varies to each series
Funnel/Dragoon (UC/Seed) - mostly use for shooting but some can be used to create a beam shield
Fangs/Bits/C-Funnels (00/AGE) - same but more durable. The bit itself can combine together to act as a shield. It can also act as a melee weapon

Hence the 'psycho'.

To celebrate the premiere of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin III - Dawn of Rebellion on May 21, Animax has announced the launch of a laboratory, Gundam: The Origin Technology Labo, to attempt to recreate scenes from Gundam: The Origin.

Those grown-up Gundam fans are putting their talents together to display the appeal of the most advanced space technologies and Gundam by recreating the various space phenomena portrayed in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin.

The project is supported by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). Details will be revealed soon.
