I kinda know why it called as Iron Blooded
Iron means machine, the Mobile Worker and Mobile Suit, while blooded when they(pilot) use their blood to operate it, just look what they connect to their back body while operate the tank(Mobile Worker) and Mikazuki is bleeding while piloting Barbatos

while orphans means yep obviously those kids are orphans from previous war

episode 2 sold me on this...

I like the fact piloting the Barbatos take a toll on the pilot because the direct link to the brain, but in return, give better response/feedback even with pilot with no experience .

Kinda remind me of escaflowne, where the pilot assimilate with it, thus gain far better control ability, but when the mecha got hit, he's injured as well.

Reminds me of Kamiki Sekai/Somon Kasshu asimilation with Gundam. And Shinji compatibilty with EVA unit

I think the iron blood reference to gundam /mobile suit, even though gundam also not made from iron. Haha

Well, iron blood kinda cool though.
