ah i think based from his original post, just do Factory Reset first instead of going thru the hassle of fastboot... seriously, i'm pretty sure he's confused as hell right now and screw something up. he probably will even have issues installing the drivers. so, factory reset please.

I told him to fastboot flashing for pure clean CM11s installation without going through custom recovery and such.

I know is abit hassle but at least he doesn't need to think like "oh what is TWRP? What is CWM?"  wink.gif
*
if he understand or know how to do it. doesnt matter which way you tell him, as long as he get it working. no issues for me. biggrin.gif

but since he needs to backup his stuff anyway and unlock bootloader will wipe the things, why dont he Factory Reset first. if its working than yay! no need to fastboot, etc etc. else just use fastboot as an extended step. whats there to lose anyway. he will end up wiping his device in either both ways.

Yeah, reseller usually want fast and they use toolkit to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery then use the premade rom and flash using custom recovery.

I remember my set inside storage contain a rom package from CM11 nightly zip folder  sweat.gif
*
lol i sent my Galaxy Nexus with AOKP rom inside to Samsung with Official warranty. Got it back nicely no prob.

xxdesire

why these codes all end with .bak? i know modem should end with .bin. persist ends with .img

can you fix it?

CODE

ui_print("Starting backup");
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mkdir", "/data/media/0/MyBackup");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst1", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/modemst1.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst2", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/modemst2.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/DDR", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/DDR.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/pad", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/pad.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/oppodycnvbk", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/oppodycnvbk.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/oppostanvbk", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/oppostanvbk.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/persist", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/persist.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fsg", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/fsg.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fsc", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/fsc.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/ssd", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/ssd.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/misc.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/DRIVER", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/DRIVER.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve1", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/reserve1.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve2", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/reserve2.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve3", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/reserve3.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve4", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/reserve4.bak");
run_program("/sbin/dd", "if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/grow", "of=/data/media/0/MyBackup/grow.bak");
ui_print("Done!");

compared to this:

CODE

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/sdcard/modemst1.bin bs=512
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/sdcard/modemst2.bin bs=512
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/sdcard/persist.img bs=4096

and also why the 2nd coding styles have ending bs=512 and bs=4096

also summoning true developer to explain cubiclecarbonate
*
i dunno the detail but usually .bak are used for backup files. for example, you have "config.conf" edy as the original and you want to modify it. so first you will copy the original file with a name of "config.bak" and start editing the config.conf file.

how to open it, simple rename it to desired extensions or open it with compatible program, then Save As the original file type.

and bs 512 and 4096 refers to the block size~

I just  backup data only in twrp ok kah. assuming its my important documents and media files?

thx
*
documents and media not included in twrp AFAIK, unless there are advanced settings.

by default it should backup your rom, apps + data, settings, etc. but no include media. if not the size will be very big.

on average, nandroid size should be between 3-5gb depending on the amount of data your app have.

documents I always backup in Google Drive, Mp3 in Dropbox. and pretty much everything else in Google + Photos app(they are sooo much flexible now can backup much more folders with media, and will ask some more if new media is found inside that folder).

like yesterday, i accidentally wiped my Nexus 5. Peace of mind. haha.

tq n appreciate ur sharing...its a good different point of view that is worth considering ur method

where does Titnium backup fit in? LuffyPSP
wondering where can i use TB as replacement for which type back up
*
TB i always use for app + data backup for local storage only. this one beneficial if changing phones and want to transfer data to the new phone without downloading + configure settings from scratch. Its also useful when you wipe your phone and flash full rom to start clean. root then install TB, restore. done. biggrin.gif

usually data and media won't be affected unless you Unlock the Bootloader, or flash using fastboot with some scripts affecting it(such as userdata.img, etc).
