Just got myself the gs62 with the following spec
cpu - i7 4720 ram - 16 GB hdd - 128 SSD + 1TB SATA gpu - 970m display - 4k display i notice the gs60 and gs62 design is very different in terms of - 1. dual fan vs single fan 2. the trackpad on gs60 is one piece but the gs62 got a separate left and right click button 3. the placement of speakers 4. i think slimmer too. cpu at normal usage around 45-50 C GPU at normal usage around 4x C will try it under heavy load later.. |

QUOTE(miong93 @ Mar 26 2015, 01:36 AM) Really ? Well I didn't encounter this before. My sister old XPS mobo spoiled, they replaced it with a new one in front of us. (the new mobo is sealed, with the original sticker) yes for the 1st year when the model is still new in market they do this as the spare is new..towards the end of 2nd year or 3rd year when they have exhausted their new spares they will use their refurbished spares. this is based on my experience using alienware. |

QUOTE(miong93 @ Apr 9 2015, 04:14 PM) If you want to play intense high demanding game on ultra settings 1080p, you need to have at least gtx970m. If you want to "future proof", then either 980m or you are really rich you can go for gtx970m or gtx980m SLI. i disagree 4k is a bad display having using it for 1 month. In fact after using a 4k screen u would not go back to full hd.I personally won't suggest GS series as it will be hot when the laptop is under load, especially you're gaming on ultra settings 1080p on high demanding game like Witcher 3, Star Citizen etc etc. Get GT series, that is the only MSI series I will recommend for games like GTA V and similar high demanding game. GE62 and GE72 may not be as good as GT series. I will highly encourage you to go for single gtx980m if you got the budget, SLI if you have a lot of $, but bear in mind not much games have full support on SLI. P/S: I WON'T recommend 4k display, because it is a very bad screen IMO, it is just 48hz. And single gpu can't support 4k gaming also. SLI can get you a decent fps, but mostly not on ultra settings with x8 SMAA or higher The debate on whether a 4k screen is bad or good is the same as the debate on whether i7 cpu is good or i5 is good. Most of the games are not optimize to use up all core either. So why bother getting i7? Furthermore having a 48Hz screen does not mean i am limited to 48fps for all games. I can still get 100 +fps depending on the game i am playing. 4K means better when you are running photo editing tool cause you need more resolution not more screen refresh rate. 4K also means you can watch better 4K video. It does not matter if the content is limited cause in the end 4K video is the future. And with such cheap offering from MSI , lenovo etc it is a no brainer. You dont have to break and arm or leg to be an early adopter. And the statement single GPU cant support 4K gamins is also false. It depend on what type of game. Strategy game will be fine. So it depends on what game you play most. And if there is a need there is such thing call lower the screen resolution. And it is not pointless because it is the same as a car..Why purchase a 2 liter car when the you cant go beyond 120kmh on the road? The reason is simple, it gives you option..the option to go fast or slow. And most of the time you need to be slow due to practicality. |

QUOTE(miong93 @ Apr 20 2015, 12:02 AM) I think there is no point in starting the argument again regarding 4k screen. Do note I mentioned IMO aka In My Opinion. You can disregard it if you feels that it is wrong. I didn't said things like 4k is useless, I just don't recommend it currently. The technology will probably matured in 2-3 years time, and IMHO during that time, you will most likely change a new laptop already. During that time a better screen will be available. It is my opinion, you can disregard it if you don't like it. IMO i still recommend a 4K screen vs a FHD screen. Why wait till 3-4 years later when you can use it now? There is no such thing as a mature product. They will always be new product in the market. Take nokia phone for example, by the time it is mature, it was replace by smart phone. So if you are into gadgets then enjoy the best while it is in the market.Regarding FPS, you will realize on some game you're forced to use v-sync due to screen tearing. Yes you can still go beyond it w/o v-sync. This also means your screen respond time is significantly lesser compared to other screen. More resolution doesn't mean better image quality. You still need to take into account about the color vibrant, density etc etc. I believe the current 4k screen can't be compared to a good FHD IPS screen. Yet again it is my own opinion so disregard it if you feel it is wrong. Yes I know 4k screen is the future tech, no need to keep emphasizing it. Since you use a car example, I will also use similar example to explain my opinion. Driverless car / autonomous car is the future, and it already has a working prototype available in the market. Why not just purchase it instead of conventional car since it is the future tech ? There exists a reason why it is not suitable to buy it now right ? Regarding games, I do mention High Demanding Game aka GPU Power Hungry Game. Maybe I didn't explicitly mention it, but since the topic is discussing about GTA V which is a high demanding game, you can implicitly guess the type of games I'm referring to right ? If not I apologize for not making myself clear. Sorry about that. I believe those strategy game you mentioned is not high demanding game. (Popular games =/= high demanding game) It is a proven fact that single GPU can't support 4k gaming (high demanding game) on ultra settings with x8 SMAA or AA on. Even GTX Titan X can barely hit 60fps in benchmark, so mobile GPU is 100% not able to handle it. Only option currently is SLI. I also did mention games like Star Citizen and Witcher, which is the high demanding upcoming games. Those games looks ridiculously good in FHD, and the gpu now barely can get a good FPS with x8 SMAA, so I can't imagine how it looks like when it is 4k. Yes you can always tune down. I will not say it again that it defeat the purpose of purchasing a 4k screen since you already mention it yourself. You are emphasizing on the price of the 4k model vs the fhd model. But you realize there is no more promotion ongoing already right ? During that time it may be a good choice, but it may not be now. You also need to take note that if the user plays a lot of high demanding game, it is like telling them to purchase a 4k screen and play it at 1080p every time. Yes no all game is so demanding, but you also need to take into account that future game may be more demanding/gpu power hungry. You keep emphasizing on future, but you forget to take into account about future game will be more demanding and it will stress single gpu more. 1080p will be no problem, but 4k will most likely have issue. Well cheers. I respect your opinion. We just have different view on 4k screen P.S: GTA V requirement is low. When you're playing at lowest settings, the graphic just looks like CS 1.6. But when you're playing at ultra settings, it is a whole different story. I have not encounter any game with screen tearing issue. So i never have to turn on v sync. And of course more resolution means for pixel density, and better working area compare to FHD screen. Color vibrant has nothing to do with 4k or FHD as they are both IPS screen. And the statement that current 4K screen cant be compare to so call good FHD screen is also not true. Have you actually use one in your daily life? I have a 3d monitor, FHD IPS screen as well as 4k. There is no way you can tell which one is better with your naked eye. So saying FHD is significant better than the other is simply your gut feel and not scientific in any way. If the car price of a new futuristic car vs conventional car is the same i will always go for the futuristic car. Similarly if two laptop is price the same why take a laptop with old technology vs a laptop with new technology? I use single GPU to play starcraft 2, dota 2, diablo III all in 4k. I have SLI HD7970 desktop and running the so call high demanding game in 4K is still a challenge due to the fact that these games are not fully optimized. Not because the card dont support it. The reason i want to clear the air because you mention single GPU cant play 4k game which is not true. It should be rephrased to single GPU cant play high demanding game in 4K which is not an issue if you play strategy game a lot and not first person shooter game. Furthermore you can always resize the resolution to FHD and play the game. So having a 4K screen does not restrict me to have a better fps if let say i would to compare it to illegear z5. i think you still dont get the point. Let me simplify it. If you pay rm100 for a laptop with 4k vs rm100 for a laptop with fhd screen, does it still defeat the purpose of buying a 4k screen and lower the resolution when you have to? Simple logic tells you to get the laptop with 4k screen. Having a FHD screen is too mainstream and common for me. I think our difference is not on the 4k screen but how we perceive things in life. What is important to you may not be important to me and vice versa. |

QUOTE(evofantasy @ Apr 20 2015, 01:10 AM) I would say 4k is great for a lot of other usage besides gaming for example when you are into multimedia editing. When editing large megapixel files (4608 x 3456) taken from DSLR it is a blessing...Personally I do not see it as a standard yet (especially smartphones) but it is something I wouldn't mind having as a default (except on the battery life part). QUOTE(miong93 @ Apr 20 2015, 02:36 PM) Yes I respect your view in 4k. But there is few point which I think you missed when reading my reply. I already mentioned the topic I posted is about GTA V, which implicitly the topic is discussing about similar game. I also did mentioned SLI doesn't have full support compared to single GPU. One of the reason you doesn't get good fps in CrossFire may due to the developer didn't come out with patches to optimize the game. Most high demanding games have better patches compared to other game because there is more player on it. (Please get me correct, I said most not all) No offense but AMD is well known for their poor driver updates. You are just debating for the sake of winning. You did not acknowledge there are tons of games out there which could run on 4k such as diablo 3 , starcarft 2 , dota 2 and DOA. Take an example, Skyrim with heavy mod or DA:I. If you wish to play it in 4k with ultra settings, you need a SLI/Xfire to have a stable fps. Single GPU will hardly let you play the game. You keep emphasizing on type of games, and I already clearly told you that the game we're discussing about is GTA V and similar high demanding game. That's why I exclude other type of game. The reason I said single gpu can't support 4k gaming is because we clearly know we're talking about games like GTA V. All your point I had already mentioned in previous post. I also get your point already very long time ago. But did you read my post clearly ? I already did mention that it is considerable when it is the same price or almost similar, but this time it is different. Cause there is no promotion already (so far what I know yet) One of the reason I don't recommend 4k screen is because if you're playing high demanding game, especially those that are not optimized enough yet, it will cause screen tearing because your display refresh rate is significantly lower than the fps you get. More new screen is generated than your screen can handle. You didn't encounter doesn't mean others won't. It is also related to the games you play and clearly TS is playing games similar to GTA V which is very GPU power hungry. Yes I know lowering your resolution is a way to solve the issue. But what if the user is playing game which is very gpu power hungry only ? Do you intent to say lower the settings on all game you play ? Why not just purchase fhd since all your game will be in lower resolution than 4k. Yes 4k screen is useful in other way, but in this case we're talking about playing high demanding games. So image editing or other stuff should be excluded right ? I keep emphasizing high demanding game because you keep mention other game is playable in 4k but forget the point TS is playing games in that category. I just don't recommend it, I didn't condemn it. Please read it clearly. Don't get me wrong I'm not forcing you to accept my opinion so please ignore it if you find it offensive. I think this discussion should be carried out in PM and not here. I'm not planning to flood MSI thread with our own discussion So PM me if you want to continue the discussion You also do not acknowledge that if one laptop is 4k and another is fhd which is similarly priced, then the 4k make more sense as you seems to not understand the cost benefit analysis. You are indirectly persistent in garnering support for some unknown reasons that a FHD is the defacto and the best at the moment which i find it strange. Are you working for a FHD display company ? You are not recommending nor condemning but you are arguing for the sake of winning just to proof your point. I did not force you to accept my opinion too so why take so much effort in explaining? For me let me be very straight.. that rm300-400 of so call cheaper price of illegear z5 is simply not worth it compare to MSI ge62 due to two reasons, an inferior screen 4k vs fhd and it does not comes with an original windows license. And please dont go tell me that you can get ahem windows as i dont pirated software. I think there is no point discussing. You clearly has very different view on matter in life. If you seriously think that we are flooding this thread, do yourself a favor and stop commending here to proof MSI 4k screen is crappy and illegear z5 FHD is the best. |

QUOTE(miong93 @ Apr 20 2015, 09:53 PM) One last post, ok point taken. your discussion is based on high demanding game and my discussion is based on the usefulness of 4k screen.1. I did acknowledged there are tons of games out there which can support 4k. But the discussion of me and "TS" is into high demanding games, which you clearly failed to understand despite I explicitly told you in 2 posts. 2. I already acknowledged 4k is future tech, and it is a wise choice to pick it up if the price is reasonable (like in your case). But it is not for now, since there is no promotion going on now (as I know of) 3. You think I'm so dumb to leave a bad image (someone who argue a lot may tend to leave bad image) around and argue for the sake of winning ? If you think so then it's fine for me. As long as it suits you. 4. The reason I keep reply to your post is because, you keep misjudge or misunderstand my post 5. Since when did I said MSI 4k screen is crappy and Z5 fhd is the best ? Please DO SHOW ME WHEN DID I POST IT IN HERE. You are making a lot of stuff up yourself. Z5 is using the lowest grade IPS, AHVA. You're the one who didn't get my meaning and you're judging me already. The stuff you mentioned were actually, ALREADY mentioned in my previous post, which you failed to get the meaning. (point 1 - 5 is already mentioned in my previous post FYI) P.S: You need to know the initial discussion is about high demanding game, that is why I don't recommend 4k. Since gpu wise will hardly support it. Please don't say there is other games which can be played in 4k, because the discussion is BASED ON HIGH DEMANDING GAME It was never discussed based on a a same topic that where all the problem started. Is time to put this discussion at rest and carry on. I do acknowledge your point on 4k high demanding gaming is valid too. Cheers.. peace |

Is there a setting that I need to configure? I'm using the latest MSI Afterburner version. Attached thumbnail(s) |
