Its possible to trim to the minimum, but even when I pack, its hard to keep it light.

Lightest I ever got was 10kg of clothes, and 10kg of gadgets.

Been in Melb for 3+ years already. Avoid bringing in food if you can. Cause if you do, you could get fined, or worse, end up on Border Security the TV show.

As far as Melbourne weather goes, it'll be hot right now, but it'll be more comfortable by mid-March. For going out, a light hooded jacket is usually a good choice. I don't like umbrellas, cause even when it rains, its only for 5 mins, for which I don't really need an umbrella.

That said, I do like the cold, and have almost never used the heating in my 3+ years there.
