Just a bit of info to share to those going to Perth trying to get broadband =)

If you want to save a bit of money, IINet (www.iinet.net.au) now offers what they call "Naked Broadband"... its basically internet without the need for a telephone line.

For those who don't know yet, if you install a phone line (which is traditionally required for a broadband line) with Telstra for example, they charge you about AUD29+ per month for line rental. Naked Broadband just skips that entirely.

But of course, you don't get landline services. Perfect for those who are 100% on mobiles instead smile.gif

ADD: Supposed to return to Perth to study after leaving for 2 years, but looks like I'll be postponed till the next intake sad.gif Got to leave this headache of a job hah! A piece of advice to those who plan to work in Australia.

Work hard, really work efficiently. Don't work Malaysia-slacking style, okay? Earn them bucks and when you hit semester break and return home for the hols, you have your cash x 3 to RM to spend! But then again, don't leave out your studies either tongue.gif Its a balancing act, really.

Just a question: is upload data counted towards the cap also?
*
Yep definitely will count towards. I think if you go over quota, they shape you down to 72kbps. Anyway, check here for more info: http://iinet.net.au/products/naked/

Hi, i am new here. can introduce some aus uni in Perth or Melbourne for IT or Computer?
I am also searching for twinning program such as Curtin Sarawak to Curtin Perth, Taylor college to RMIT and Swinburne Sarawak to Swinburne Melbourne. Curtin is famous for engineering but is it suitable to study computer there? Any suggestion on these university or another twinning uni? Thx

Curtin is a good place to get a degree in IT. Top notch lecturers and facilities.

I believe you can take courses at Curtin Miri and twin to Perth on your last year. You should check with your education agent (or you can PM me, I have a friend who specifically deals in study options in Perth, including accomodation, taking you to create bank accounts, etc)...

But, a bit of personal advice, at this point of time you should also consider what you want to do when you get your degree. Do you want to go come back to Malaysia and work? Or do you want to settle in Perth and work? (Trust me, huge difference cool2.gif). Australia now has a new visa for all recent degree graduates that lets you stay and work for 18 months. In that time, if you obtain and retain employment for 12 months related to your field of study, you can apply for a Permenant Resident visa.

Myself, I've studied there, then worked there... then had to come back to Malaysia for family matters (and obviously work here). Now after 2 years I've just about had it with the working conditions here and decided to return to Perth. The pay difference is like ~400%...

So give it a good long think smile.gif

Going to Adelaide on the 26 for my foundation. Anyone can tell me the rough living cost in Adelaide? Will i able to survive with AUD 1200 per month? I think my rental is roughly AUD 160 per week. Oh yea. Any of you heading for Bradford college for Uni of Adelaide Foundation?? Oh yea. Will i able to apply for ATM card  and online banking if I am under 18??  Thanks for helping.

Just about every bank in Australia has online banking for all types of account, ATM card shouldn't be a problem... I went when I was 17 and went to create an account on my own -.-

How much you need to survive depends on you... do you cook? Or will you be eating out much? Will you be clubbing much? tongue.gif Will you be installing a landline with/or Broadband?
AUD160 per week up in Adelaide is fairly high I think, unless you're taking a whole studio apartment to yourself? Cos if thats AUD 160 per week for a ROOM, then yea kinda high...

In Perth we still can get AUD120 per week for a room... Adelaide is supposed to be much cheaper. (But don't quote me on that tongue.gif)
