My machine sometimes gives same problem as well. My spec is
i5-3470
gigabyte z77x-ud3h
HyperX 4gb x 2
Intel SSD 60gb
MSI Nvidia GTX 660Ti

I unplug the DVI to VGA converter and plug in again, the display came out again. But some times no luck, it will not give display. From the speaker it gives windows 7 sound when boot up.
