This link sums it up best: http://www.cracked.com/blog/what-our-react...-says-about-us/ Frankly I find it disgusting and revolting that some of you guys can actually put the blame solely and squarely on her "stupidity," and it is "entirely her fault."

For me my thinking is along the "don't care still fap" route; acknowledging that this is INDEED a violation of her privacy and she is the victim but no fucuk given and still go and download anyway icon_idea.gif

Bla bla bla she's a victim bla bla.

I agree that its a gross violation of her privacy and people who want to see her naked are just nosy pervs, yes, but I am still going to blame her for this.

I do NOT accept ignorance as an excuse ever. Fact is anything that gets on the internet stays on the internet. This is an open secret. Also, I think that anyone stupid enough to trust Apple with security deserves whatever happens.

What's even more interesting is that the hack was performed using social engineering. It wasn't some difficult technical feat that can only be achieved by skilled hackers. He simply guessed the passwords of various celebrities using readily available online information.

Hasn't adequate information been made available online about password security? What have we techies always been saying? Don't use birthdays, don't use names, don't use hobbies, or anything that can easily be tied back to you. Your password needs to be something secret that is not easily guessable.

To conclude:
- They were ignorant about password security.
- They are ignorant about the nature of the internet.
- They trusted Apple. doh.gif

Somehow, I am supposed to sympathize or feel sorry for them? Nope, not going to happen. This could all have been avoided if they were just willing to spend a little time to educate themselves.

Would ur opinion be diff if she practice password security and the hacker had to crack the shit out to access the pics?
*
Yup. Its ignorance that I have no respect for. If you know a thing or 2 about techie stuff, you're cool in my books.

Its like this. I know girls like to keep using the analogy "just because a woman is dressed sexy doesn't mean she deserves to be raped". I totally agree...BUT if a woman is going to dress sexy, wouldn't she avoid walking through certain parts of town? Seriously, how stupid do you have to be?

If you're mad enough to wear a miniskirt and tubetop than go on a holiday to Indian than walk through certain parts of New Delhi by yourself, I can hardly sympathize with you if you're raped. Yes yes, why must guys be so perverted, why can't they respect women, etc. I do not disagree with all that, but why must you also be such an idiot?

Posing for nude pics AND uploading on the internet without bothering to secure your presence online is very much in that same degree of stupidity if you ask me.

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd how do you know she doesn't know about password security
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd how about those hackers "spend a little time to educate themselves"

If your password can be hacked by using social engineering (which was what happened), than you don't know a damn thing about password security. Simple as that.

Also, I never disagreed that the hackers are at fault. What I'm saying is that the victims also carry some of the blame.

Take some lessons on internet security next time, or its your own damned fault what happens to you online.

Internetz...its serious business yo.

gonna disagree with you in that

but anyway, cheers.

Lel its not that I don't get your viewpoint, but I'm also a disgruntled techie. Think of me as a grumpy old man telling kids to get off my lawn, except in this case the lawn would be the internet.

Part of my job (as well as real life) involves having to deal with people who do downright stupid shit with their computers or on the internet. It has pretty much jaded my view of people in general which is why I take a dim view of technical ignorance.

QUOTE(ReWeR @ Oct 8 2014, 02:13 PM)
'social engineering' were a theory come out by security experts on how normally hackers hack online accounts when being asked on j.law's case.

j.law and others celebrities were hacked by a technique called 'brute force' where an application keep guessing the password in a very fast sequence. iCloud did not set how many times an account can failed login. no matter how secured your password is, if no login failed attempt limit set, your account will eventually hacked.

so the truth is ... the hackers can target anyone they want, it is just certain people are more famous.

it has nothing to do how these celebrities set their password because it will be hacked eventually. As long as they are famous.
basically hackers can use method to hack my maybank account if they really want to. But do you know why my account is still safe now? because most hackers know it is wrong, and they might go to jail if they do so. Stealing is not acceptable in our society standard.
*
Hmm, brute force? Your password also has to be quite simplistic if it can be hacked by brute force. Likely its even the minimum number of characters needed which is a common mistake made by many people.

This is why I don't use passwords. I use passphrases, at least when it comes to important accounts icon_rolleyes.gif

Want to brute force me? Can...in a couple of years, once you work your way through several long string sequence.

do you know what are you doing?

you are practically telling people you feel safe because robbers break into your neighbor home because your home security are better.

the problem is not who have a better security or what is the technique of broke in, the problem is robbers breaking in and steal things.
*
I never said that I thought the hackers are innocent and aren't to blame.

I am just saying that those who got hacked are partly to blame themselves for their own ignorance.

Yes, robbers shouldn't break in and steal things. I totally agree. That said, if you leave your gates open and the door unlocked. Of course, the world would be a better place if we can all do that and not have to worry...BUT...let's get real here...

Like I mentioned in another post...as a techie, I am less than impressed whenever someone is a victim of hacking due to their own ignorance.

she did not done anything ignorance thing here. sync your photos to icloud is not an ignorant act as many people doing it

Just because many other people are doing it doesn't means that its not a stupid thing to do. Its like Malaysian motorcyclists. A lot of them ride on the pavement. That doesn't make it right.

At the end of the day, I still think its the hacker's fault more than anything else. I also think people shouldn't be looking at those photos. However, I just don't have any sympathy for the victims either.
