Yikes some older games caused either UI problem or hang the PC completely

Also, can't setup virtual wifi, no matter what software, even try command prompt method didn't work... duuuuhh

Which version stable bro? Sian install windows 8 but all activation code cannot go through win 8.1 pro.

there is nothing considered stable yet even if w10 has reach insider preview.

as for the activation issues, just get a copy of w8.1 pro retail key (legit copy) at garage sales section.

How much for key? Now cannot enter code again must through phone liao or online. Btw, if not activate code what will happen next? So far no issue

edit: if you only use the computer for common usage (web browsing, watching videos, etc.), a good alternative is linux. linux mint is a good option. (actually it's not bad)

Just made a clean reinstallation of 10074 (format drive, install win 7 and upgrade to win 10074). Found of the the desktop experience is much smoother than previous version (maybe formatting the hd did the trick too ?). Shogun 2 and M&B warband now working though Shogun 2 got 'windows has stopped working' error upon quitting the game. Not sure if recurrent as haven't tested the second time.

In any case, it takes quite a while to load and a lot more longer than even win 7. I did not time them but I think it's 3 times longer than my usual windows 7 loading. Hope it will not be the same when the retail version comes out later. I did uninstall some programs that I don't need and I do hope when the real thing came out I will have the option only to install what I need (don't bloody need windows 10 to tell me what's the weather is like outside, really).

In any case, my early verdict is that I may done good to myself sticking to win7 and waiting for win 10 rather than upgrade to win 8 when it came out earlier.

I will do a game benchmark later though I'm not sure if the OS have any actual effect since my last benchmark since the game has been patched and new gfx driver released too since I made my last benchmarks.

indeed. the desktop experience is relatively better. however it really depends on who is using it. for os fresh installs in older computers, i think it will be smooth. my test machine is almost 3 years old. there are no significant issues so far.

i doubt that games we have these days can leverage on dx12 yet. also, with background stuff collecting user data it's kind of taxing also. to have better gaming experience, it's better to stick to current os.

Yeah. for serious usage currently then better to stick with win 7 or win 8. Me on the other hand since there nothing important on the pc anyway (besides my games which I only play on weekends) there's no issue with trying them.

At least I got to do my part in helping which games work and which don't.

Any idea whether we got to try dx12 before the real thing comes out ?

One thing though, since I already been using(free) avira I found out that I cannot run windows defender at the same time using windows 10, unlike windows 7 where I can run both at the same time. Is it something new with the new OS where no 2 AV can be run at the same time ?

for dx12 supports, we still need game and gpu driver developers to come up with something. hopefully we can have that a few months after w10 release.

DX12 adoption is likely... slow... just like DX11 and x64 adoption speed...
How many games nowadays that in-the-works supports announced support for DX12? As far as I know, none. Pardon me if my news is a tad slow.

Realistically, I will think - 2 or 3 months after W10 release, developer start to announce support for DX12 for various futures games, minimum development time 1 year, so expect stuff ti pickup at end of 2016... lol... just my wild speculation.

Though, hit a couple networking problems with 10074 really wanna pull my hair out. Can't continue anymore =/
One issue that seems to inherit since several generations and never got fixed - tray icon "ghosting"... Seriously, still not fixed in W10 lol...
(after close certain application, the icons remain at tray bucket until you hover your mouse on it)

3G connect but no data running, everything on the meter 0.00kbps, sometime.
Problem creating virtual wifi hotspot, as there is no "microsoft virtual wifi adapter" found but instead there is an adhoc adapter... forgot the name. Hotspot can be created on that adhoc thing but other devices (my phone for example) failed to connect - checking ipconfig the hotspot don't have a gateway, and WPA2 is known to have difficulty connect on mobile and I don't know how to change it to WEP...

Hmm not too sure about windows 10. It still looks a bit like the windows 8. I really hate windows 8

there is no need to hate anything. you can always use your favorite os until there is nothing working on it. i think that's a long time, considering some folks are still running wxp.

the way i see it is that it's better to spend some time to adapt. tbh i had a hard time converting to w8 from w7 initially. well, sort of. all i spent was one week to get rid of the typical start menu syndrome.

imo w8.1 update 3 onwards is much better.

So far nothing seems stable yet for me!

I hate windows 8 too. but when I tried win8.1, i feel not bad with it.

and overall performance/smoothness is way better than win7. (I hate the metro style of win8/8.1 too, haha)

the only disappointed, some win7 software not able to run in win8

now I'm waiting for win10 consumer preview... hehe
