a clean install of w10 pro should be approximately 12gb (minus swap/pagefile/hiberfil.sys, drivers and windows updates)

What about the update from windows 8.1?

it depends. if it's os only, it's not that much. windows defender's definitions are relatively frequent, but they're small.

it's common. however, maybe your computer already have them downloaded almost completely (except for one or few files). check to see if c:\$windows.~bt or c:\$windows.~ws is present. usually there will be contents inside the folder too.

it is really up to you. it's just a personal preference. if you do not face any issue with in-place upgrade, there is no such needs. i personally like a clean install because i wanna get rid of old system partitions that are still intact, and i wanna have a fresh start. before you do a clean install, make sure you have all the compatible drivers ready, and make necessary steps to prepare for the worst. (like making a full system and data backup so that you can roll back if something is wrong)

no you cannot use w8.1 key for w10. if you went through the w10 upgrade offer successfully (ms refers this as digital entitlement), you don't need to use key when you do a fresh install. (just skip when asked for key) it will be automatically activated after you have connected to the internet with the freshly installed w10.

Hello, anyone facing the same update problem?

There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

a nice tip. windows updates for w10 (and maybe for other versions also) are kind of buggy these days.

I have install all the necessary driver and everything is working well for my notebook Lenovo Y500.

but I notice one thing is the audio thingy...whenever I adjust the volume up and down...I tend to hear the hiss sound from the background of my speaker (like those zzz sound).

anyone face such issue ?

Hi, I faced an issue now. I have changed my HDD due to faulty, therefore i need to reinstall my windows. Of course it will be a private win8. Is there any way to get back my product key, before that I am using genuine win10. Can I upgrade back to windows 10?

a better place for you to ask this question is at lenovo y series laptop thread, https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2796033 or, better yet, go to lenovo support forum to look for possible solutions.

do a fresh w10 install, then try online activation. if failed, call ms support and tell your story.

alternatively, you should try install the old os, have it activated (call ms support if necessary), then do an upgrade to w10. with w10 upgrade offer, we don't get any key.
