Ruling On Tattoos In Islam

Decision:

The 86th Muzakarah (Conference) of the Fatwa Committee National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia held on 21st-24th April 2009 has discussed ruling on tattoos in Islam. The Committee has decided that from the Islamic law, ruling on tattoos, both the tattoo maker and the one who is tattooed are forbidden. Hence, the Committee has decided that a person who had been tattooed should repent and be remorseful. He should remove the tattoo using current technology method if it does not cause any harm.
