I think Balo got the right stuff. He's not a Sturridge/Suarez type player and won't be I fear. But what he has is a presence in the air and physicality. So often we've seen Suarez bullied and hard tackled to get him off the ball. Balo not doing what he does best as often as he should, but if you look at the goal vs Ludo and against West Ham, his control and touch can be quite good if he wants to (and no surprise that both crosses came in from Moreno).

As I mentioned before, Balo is a genuine plan B, the type Dalglish had in mind when he hired Carroll. But the problem is now, without Sturridge, we got 2 plan Bs on the field (Lambert and Balo). So the only choice is to put in Borini, who if you ask me should be plan Y.

I just realized something. Where a lot of folks including the media keep saying we're missing Suarez...even if we did have him we'd still be where we are now because he's suspended! But it is true...the problems were here even with Suarez, just that the constant act of Sruj and Suarez trying to outdo each other papered over the cracks

While I agree with a lot of comments saying Suarez made BR look good, I'd point to our first 5 games last season and the results we achieved without Suarez to indicate we don't necessarily need him. What we need right now is a mobile forward, which Balo isn't. Really hope Struj coming back can sort this out. I'm still adamant we would have benefited more getting Remy than Balo.

King also brought in Suarez (cough and Carroll). I'm gonna reserve my judgments to see how we play with Sturj and Balo for a few matches. If what we saw during the Tott game is to go by, I'd say what we're lacking is that pacey striker up front,

I think with Cout, Lallana and Sterling playing in and around Balo we have a good chance...currently still not sold on Marko though I believe he will come good. The central midfield double pivot though...having my doubts about Gerrard - Hendo. Maybe Lucas - Hendo?

I sorta agree with you there...the general mentality surrounding us right now is gloom and doom. A win, a healthy one too, away in the CL will help to lift some of that. Even better if it comes with good performances from underfperfoming players like Mario and Marko.

A draw or loss, coupled with bad individual performances will not do morale good.

While I do agree the SAS was a sight to behold...ppl forgetting ka that Suarez would still be banned even if he was here. Struj loss more heavily felt IMO

Morientes, Keane, Aquilani, Gonzalez, Diao, Dossena, Diouf, Sahin, Adam, Babel...some of the many other flops I can remember...yeah flops go back far in our history, but obviously we'd wish it didn't happen now
