We all know Gerrard is being targeted. He's not a guy who can make quick second passes, but rather a playmaker who needs some time to assess the best pass. When he's being closed down like that, obviously his delivery is gonna suffer. If we can see that Gerrard is being targeted, Sterling needs a rest, Lallana needs to start and maybe Marko from the bench not first team; what is it we're missing that makes Rodgers do the opposite? Does he see something else?

In all fairness, I do think Balo is being given too much stick. I'm hoping Sturridge's return will ease that but it's quite clear that we need another mobile forward.

wasn't Lovren a beast at Southampton? Come here only squeak squeak? no leading from the back?

Watching the match yesterday I noticed a few things:

1. Gerrard had a much easier time yesterday when he wasn't being manmarked. ..A pretty solid performance from him covering the defense.
2. Henderson motm when put in a more forward position.
3. Sterling hapless on the right. Seems more comfortable in a forward role behind the front two.
4. Couts went missing again.
5. Lallana really twinkle toes man...damn good on his feet and going forward.
6. Lambert really hardworking. Balo with some suarez-esque passes when he came on. Worked hard too.
7. Mignon et much better today...lovren and skrtel still out of sorts.

To be fair though, Lallana has been our best player for the past few games since he came into the first XI. Far more consistent than Coutinho at the moment.

If you watch the replay...Lallana's skill leading up to that goal was very Coutinho, Suarez-esque...if Couts regains his form, I can only think what we can achieve (along with Sturridge return from injury).

We got Steve Clarke last time to do the job but BR chased him out.

True. But lets say, if there was a healthy relationship between those 2 managers, I think ( talking a bit of c0ck now), the deal might go thru.

Who would have taught that a deal between Utd and Arsenal for the RVP deal would go thru, since the relationship between SAF and Arsene was fierce during the late 90's up to 04 or 05. Then, it mellowed down.

And in the case of Mata as well, Jose could have sold him somewhere else, might be the ridiculous price Utd gave that promted the decision, but he was their best player for 2 seasons. Could be that Jose respected SAF...or like you have said about not a direct rival, hence Jose decision to sell Mata to Utd and make some serious profit from there.
*
For Mata there was also the fact that Chelsea had already played MU twice that year already. Though maybe not the most likely reason, selling Mata to MU was indirectly affecting the other title challengers through MU.

look at the performance between mignolet and de gea, both got leaky defence but it was de gea heroic performance that help mu to 3 points vs everton. mignolet had not been producing that kind of performance for a long time and we had yet include the number of errors he committed this season.
*
De Gea started off badly for MU too...just I don't think it took that long for him to come good. Goalkeeping coach eprhaps?

i think what they mean is they looking at Javier Pastore who plays similar position to Reus? Reus not happy so wanna go out? I'd take it at face value la. Most likely we gonna end up with Kaite Balde Diao or Shneiderlin or some other underwhelming name

I seriously think with the return of Sturddige we could've at least drawn. Sigh...why so injury prone. I don't know Balo doesn't have the football knowledge or workrate or we just don't know how to utilize target man. Compare how we're playing with Chelsea who only utilize Costa. So much more productive midfield than ours. Know how to spot a run and whack long ball. Our midfield only Gerrard and Couts know how to do that (example Cout's pass to Sterling for our 3rd goal vs QPR). All the rest just receive the ball and run at defense.

why is it we still seem to lack leadership on the pitch? supposedly vocal leaders from other teams come to liverpool and just go with the flow. lallana and lovren for example. whereas look at tadic...i watched the replay of their 8-0 win and he was seemingly not only at the centre of everything but seemed to have an aura of leadership as well.

That is true though...the goal leaking, lack of coordination and lack of leadership has been there since last season. But we had SAS to paper over the cracks. Like some of you here, I do feel that our squad is good, maybe just lacking that midfield dynamo we used to have in Alonso. Gerrard is not that anymore, let's be frank. And the leader's voice is disappearing, while noone is stepping up to make themselves heard. I feel a lot of our midfielders are very 1 dimensional...just get the ball and run forward. If noone makes space; bam, they're stuck until reach the touchline then try to weasel their way in to get a shot off

Yep. Italian national striker starting eleven. And that's not good enough for some of you. Maybe it's a good time to reflect what went wrong instead of balotellying everyday.

Given the circumstances, do you think bringing in Marco Reus or Henrikh Mkitharyan will help to improve the scenario?

Anyone forgot the Nuri Sahin short story? He was a highly rated midfielder, coveted by Arsenal and when we got his signature, everybody was jumping up and down in cloud 9, but as it turns out, BR failed to maximize his potential and deemed him as a flop. That's when I started to doubt BR's abilities to work with creative midfielders.
*
Coutinho boleh what...for Sahin I believe he wanted to play in CM. But Rodgers kept playing him out of position to accomodate Gerrard and Allen. In other news:

Rodgers don't want defensive coach. If you ask me...he seems to be looking more and more tactically infelxible as the days go by
