Hi all, The wooden door knob of bedroom has experiencing some problems (unable to lock properly), so called this locksmith to come over (very near to his shop, walking distance ~5min) to my unit and repair. He then knocked off the knob, and told me that the knob was faulty, but he cant fix it coz the original hole (to hold the knob) wasnt properly done last time. He needs to re-drill the hole to make it aligned. Since I was in rush, I said it's ok, just fix it back to close the hole to make it look better. He replaced a new one (simple, round type knob) and charged rm 90...whole process took less than 20 min.. im not familiar with the pricing here in KL, particularly at ss2 area, but to me, it's too expensive for such charges..coz back to my hometown (which i just changed one last month), locksmith charged me only 40 including new knob and labour charge. It was exactly same type of knob... Just want some input if this charge is reasonable here in this area?

You should ask how much he charge for onsite, and how much a unit of lock charge. Everyone have a price. Rental in ss2 and your hometown may not be the same. Operating expenses are different.
I don't know their labor, but a Basic good quality door lock is already 40+-. Imitation maybe cheaper. Can go hardware shop and buy if you the diy person.

Hi, thanks for input. Ya i forgot to mention, i did survey the price before, and found that the door knob set was priced 10-15 for that type of brand. The locksmith owned a shop, his knob set was more expensive (rm22) but since his location was nearest, for convenience sack, we just asked him to come over. Im just wondering if this is Normal labour charges for changing a knob set? (~rm70) and it's just less than 20 min, not even ask to install, just put the new knob set to close the hole....

There shouldn't be too much difference in labour charges.. i think im being nailed for overprice doubled charges It is really easy money to earn for unethical charges..what a blue day -.- thanks for ur input..

correction.... site visit is rm50 there about. lock.... different charge. so if your lock cost about rm30 to 40, you will be paying rm80 to 90 all in.
