hey, anyone knows how to grow venus flytraps at home? if it is possible to grow it in malaysia...how to grow it? and where to get the seeds or whatever which i need to grow it?

hey dun laugh at me...i'm not a geek of plants but i wanna try growing a flytrap at home...

can be found in Sarawak. There are some nurseries which sell them there. Dunno about Pennisular Msia , though. They're not for you to play with it's fly traps , though. the flytrraps have a limited use before they drop off. so if you everyday touch touch , you'll notice your venus flytrap is getting less nourishment.

not the whole plant, but only the traps will wilt right?

These plants need permit to own, it is protected by law.

i've kept a pitcher plant before. dont ask me where i got it though it was during the hot hot days when there were lots of waterflies in the house.

Care to back that up with facts...

You get some them Sungei Buloh the plant nurseries from time to time will have venus flytraps...

Latest sighting is Puchong the Giant Hypermarket @ Bandar Puteri there is a nursery by the main entrance selling venus flytraps for RM20 a pot.

Or you can try seeds, get them from eBay but I've found it nearly impossible to grow them myself so I just get an adult specimen instead.

Yup it's RM20 no kidding coz I checked it out myself the price tag and asked the gardener there...

I'm not sure if these are local grown but if they are local it could explain the cheaper price. Last time the flytraps are imported from Holland so they cost like RM60each

Anyway it's the green venus flytrap but their specimens are nice it's the variety with broad short leaf and nice big flytraps.

My favourite are the Red Dragon variety and I tried to grow those from seeds (purchased from eBay) but they never germinated

pitcher plants are nicer. tho you can't keep in the office because they need plenty of sun and water. but they have really cool pitchers, and i mean really cool!!

ooo, ok, question: are these plants going to die if i put them in the office since there are no bugs to eat?

you can put fertiliser to replace bugs, but you might end up overdosing or killing the plant (since there's no big watering to flush the excess fertiliser residues away), or you could end up with a plant that has no flytraps or pitchers at all because why would they need those if they already can get their nutrients from fertiliser?

I heard that you must use only distilled water to water the plants. The salt content in normal water will kill the plant.

for other country yes. but local, for me no problem lar(my plant no problem). use "tangki" water. mean the water from toilet 1.
u take a few litle then put under the sun for few hours or 1 day. then can use it.

If not car's battery water will also do. As far as I know, before you put it into the car, it is distilled water, after u use it in the battery, it becomes acidic
